HUMAN
Studying human nature is as important as studying the city, or even more. Architecture is a code of harmonic social organization and vice versa. So the main questions I thought about while trying to build a breathing city concept were “What is human?”, “Who lives in the city and how?”, “How to make people happy?” A human being is a very complicated system. It is merely impossible to describe it in a single model. I’ve developed a wave–particle duality concept. A human as a particle means “people” could not exist totally as individuals; particle is a part of a whole by definition. As technology progresses, tighter and denser connections will appear (verbal to imaginary) with mutual education, mutual growth and mutual experiences. These different particles make one great image. A human as a wave states that human being himself is not a static notion. They are also changing, growing and evolving; this makes people unique as they do not copy themselves throughout their life cycle. There would not be any boundaries between education, work and entertainment. A person would seek for the job which makes him happy, and the technical progress will serve as tool for self-expression. Creating the new is the only thing we could not automate and the only reason to exist.

CITY AXIS A city is a giant living organism that needs to breathe and to self-develop. Static, museumificated city is dead city. It must be noted that “breathing city” is determined not only by the physical movements, but also by time, light, sound, surface or cyberspace “waves”. It is demonstrated by the following points: Creation and Destruction. A city is pierced by “physical forces” like natural sources and energy and “spiritual forces” like science and arts, which intertwine and create productive clusters. Connection and disconnection processes work in one great wasteless cycle of reusing and rethinking. Stretching and Compression. The urban environment must consist of adaptive architecture, responsive to the environmental changes and human needs. There are different rhythms of changing, from day-night (earth) cycles, ebb- flow (moon) cycles to summer-winter (sun) cycles. City lives throughout 24 hours. Exterior and Interior. Artificial nature condensing on the bottom and unfolds to public spaces on the top. Balance of density and sparcity of material change the nature of experience the city. Dream and Memory. City exists in the eternal union of old and new. It keeps information about history. Natural and Artificial. A human has two opposite inspiring sources: nature and culture. They both are blurred in one great megapark – web of public spaces, offering unique experience for each citizen. Physical, Emotional and Intellectual. The key to happiness lays in balance of these spheres. The city should give that opportunity to its citizens.

CITY CHAKRAS
At the extremely dense areas of the city appear urban nodes (chakras). Every specific node serves a purpose and with the opportunity to transform itself. In conclusion, breathing city – is balanced, multilayered and self-growing organism.

ARCHITECTURE
The architecture of the city, despite being irregular and dynamic by its nature, has several stratas with a clear vertical hierarchy. Lower levels consist of rigid wireframe structures, working on compression forces only. Tensegrity structures of upper levels combine both tension and compression. And the lightest fly on the top, bounded thanks to tension forces. The whole system is covered with an organic surface, developed and programmed by citizens according to their preferences. Thus, we have multidimensional perception of architecture. It could be classified by five notions: Point (0D). Intermodal hubs rise on the crossings of other elements. At the same time, points locate on a clear grid to make city readable and easy to navigate inside. Line (1D). Traffic, source and energy streams spread like veins in city. Surface (2D). Most of social interactions are concentrated within public spaces. Volume (3D). Volumes, or fields, are the areas of several structures functioning by similar laws. Time (4D). All logic and structural information of the city and its citizens’ feedback is an invisible dimension.

TIME
Time (t) (t) Time
There is birth, and there is death. But the third and the most mysterious category – time – lays just in between these two key terms. Throughout history architects worked solely with space organization (X, Y, Z axis), creating shapes. But what if we conditionally redefine the Z axis as the time axis? How will the space-time structure look like? Standard architecture will simply be an extruded plane. This is good for orientation in the city or for the historical heritage objects. This situation changes when we talk about adaptive architecture. It saves its own logic during the time, and its changes in amplitude could be seen in a diagram. If we slice this structure horizontally, we will discover plans captured in a certain time - a calendar.

VALLEY
There were launched a large number of construction and renovation processes since the beginning of new millennium in Kazan; however, there are some areas which became misbalanced during these preparations. One of such sites is Ametyevo valley which I chose as a plot for my course project. I’m considering this territory as a luxurious coral reef in my proposal. The beauty of underwater opens just for curious explorers. So what are the secrets of Ametyevo valley? Proposal is attempting to emphasize the dignity of territory and tie up two separated from each other fragments of urban fabric – onestorey individual cottages on the west and highrise building on the east. According to landscape and transport network, I throw the megastructure – a kind of “ripples”. They are materializing as pedestrian and cyclist passages, ramps, or as local greenery and farms, or as architectural structures or even as energy generating systems. So in general it will become a complex intermodal public space. The body of structure visually breaks the plot into smaller parts to make them fit the human scale, though keeping the unity of shaping character. There are also several new separate autonomous clusters thanks to zoning function of the “ripples”.

Ametyevo reef project / Chapter 2
KID CENTER
The brand new heart of the Ametyevo becomes the multifunctional children center. Transport connections allow easy and fast access not only to citizens but also to those who travel from suburban areas. This is not just a simple children center. Functions of education, communication, sports, creative workshops, nutrition are combined in one complex. This is a real children university, with its own auditoriums, laboratories and a hostel. Or even the whole city where the rainbow is always shining above your head. Three parametric waves enwrap the landscape, making three blocks: creative, educational and sport. There are scattered tiny pavilions under the sculptural shape of waves. They are considered as places “for being” while spaces are “for moving” with many routes located between them. Some routes look like wide avenues while some are difficult to go through. Every time it is a new challenge, new invention. This is a living environment, balancing between “inside” and “outside”, between dangerous and sterile. I hope that the center will offer a great range of activities from theatre to sports to empower young generation to grow happily and to contribute actively in building their future.
