The New Wanderlust

THE NEW WANDERLUST

Giving back is the new materialism and shorter breaks are the new wanderlust. To travel the world in search of knowledge, cultural gratitude and self exploration is a long prevailing desire. As the health conscious Generation Z explore and embrace a more nutritious, enlightening and ethical lifestyle through food, fashion and creative appreciation, they will long for a more self-fulfilling and enriching experience through travel. Solo backpacking through the heat waves of Fiji or through the chaotic zesty Indian spice markets satisfy our urgency for unforgettable visual delights, however, is it truly enough to fulfil a growingly ethical and spiritually aware individual? Embracing spirituality, clean living and immateriality are part of the interests within the new demographic of explorers who have time-constraints but a disposable income, causing the demands for shorter but more adventurous trips to rise. Booking in smaller groups with modest travel companies and staying in more intimate locations that are close yet undisturbing towards the surrounding nature will increase. The new voyagers will handpick holidays that appreciate and support local businesses, conversing and contributing locally in a more organic and meaningful way whilst in turn reaching a state of emotional wellness and authentic fulfilment that they are deprived from through artificial connection with society on technology-led online networking. Self-healing to the mind and soul, living like a local and feeling close to the rural communities will evolve past group volunteering projects and charitable manual labour into less obvious but just as impactful trips which put the explorer at the heart of the adventure. Networking becomes the new socialising

To travel is to cultivate one’s mind with new and exciting insights and ways of life through the experiences and wisdom of natives within the communities that are ventured. Through their eyes we see, through their flavours we taste and and through our senses we feel the instant draw and gratification towards cultural diversity and ideas which broaden our minds and reform the ways in which we observe. Connectivity and the search for belonging lie at the heart of why travellers voyage, and within a digital age the demand for social networking apps with a purpose will grow. Connecting with like-minded travellers has helped enliven and enrich the personal experiences of enthusiastic tourists. Technological advancement and the growth of online networking will continue to stimulate the desire for innovative mobile connectivity with compatible travellers whilst abroad, evolving from a casual social aspect into a new form of professional tourism, enabling individuals to meet and greet with similar and valuable sources for their personal reference.
