INDEX
EX-COTONIFICIO MILANO Ex-cotonificio is a project that questions the opulence of contemporary metropolitan cities, which are now entirely devoted to consumption and are getting increasingly exclusive, pushing less wealthy social classes and material production respectively into the urban peripheries and the undeveloped countries.
The plinth of the tower is a platform, fully accessible, that fits squarely into the irregular urban fabric of the area. At the center of the platform, we can find the ruin, rehabilitated as a cultural center, and the circular patio surrounding it, a tribute to Milan’s public space par excellence: the hidden cloister.
The lot features the ruins of a late 19th-century cotton mill: a symbol of Lombardy’s past industrial bourgeoisie and at the same time of the fashion industry, a pillar of the economy and a source of fame for the city. It is this very presence that acts as the trigger for the project: a platform and a tower come together around the former cotton mill, creating a new urban space that confronts both the pedestrian scale of the neighborhood and the city’s skyline, adding a new tower building for the city of the Pirelli skyscraper.
To crown the building, LED screens act as a cornice and serve as a communication tool with the city of Milan.
This unusual tower takes on the function of a public research center for the production of textiles from recycled materials, thus standing in stark contrast to the current capitalist culture of fast fashion and becoming a vibrating and active center, a symbol for a new Milan.

EX-COTONIFICIO MILANO. DIPLOMA PROJECT - EPFL. PROFESSORS: R. GARGIANI, E.LAPIERRE
THE INVASION OF PARIS MANIFESTO A proposal for a parallel antagonism within the contemporary city. To challenge the city-countryside dichotomy by conciliating agriculture and nature with the metropolitan density. The laboratory for this experience is the suburbia, the undefined territory that connects and separates the city and the countryside. PLN =HABITATVARIABLE
VILLE VERTE
The site is located in the north-east of the Grand Paris, an area where a high number of transport infrastructures intersect, fragmenting its surface while connecting it to a broader scale. The platform captures these fluxes and reconnects the site with the surroundings, reproducing the intensity of the urban fabric of Paris. The 2 km by 2 km structure develops itself on a pelouse technologique that distributes energy all over the surface and allows the HABITATvariable and the public activities on it. The agriculture, located on the underground floors, becomes part of the hidden infrastructure that supports the metropolitan life.
Located in the south of the city, Paris-Barres challenges the idea of the Ville Verte. The long bar buildings are interrupted by four big squares that serve as a new social condenser. The densification inside the compact bars frees the space in between them, allowing room for wild nature to grow. The places, the circulation inside the bars and the roofs are conceived as a continuous public space, with main promenades and shortcuts allowing the Parisian experience of the urban flanerie to take place. Along this promenade, all the main activities unfold : public programs, as well as the processing of the raw materials produced underground.

The screen-building is positioned on a semi-circular base that becomes a courtyard and a large open space for students to gather. The depth of the building is minimal, the game is to develop a school of architecture in a space only 9 meters deep. It presents two facades: one entirely transparent looking towards the lake and the other one that is caratherized by extruded volumes, additions of rooms that allow to have differences in the plants and spaces of the school and a figurative facade towards the city.

HOUSING IN LONDON The project develops around the idea of creating a modern version of the typical London Mansion Block, consisting of three bar buildings attached together. Each of these buildings creates its own small skyline and silhouette, the plan presents a checkerboard layout so that each building can offer the maximum possible light so that all together they create a small urban block. Each bar offers a different type of housing in order to provide a wide range of housing possibilities and meet multiple needs. The collective-common space and the distribution spaces act as moments of connection and union in between the three bars and allow to create moments of social interaction, the very protagonist of collective space is a light passerelles that is bounding the buildings together, defining spaces and creating playfull moments.

HOUSING IN ZURICH The central theme of the studio was DENSITY; the project aims to respond to the increasing number of people coming to Zurich, proposing a type of housing that could be suitable for young families and students that at the moment cannot afford to live in the center due to the high prices of rents. The project aims at the realization of a social idea of housing by creating a mixed social environment that includes public spaces, ateliers, and offices. The project presents two buildings, one facing the railway that serves as a filter building used as a workshop and office and the other that houses the living part; the space created between the two serves as a communal outdoor space for the neighborhood’s inhabitants.

NEW ROOMS FOR THE VATICAN MUSEUMS “New rooms for the Vatican museums” is a project that aims to create a new building that could host exhibitions of all kinds. The project is presented as a very light construction that stands in contrast to the mighty Vatican palaces; however, this style allows the building to fully adapt to presences and to enhance its materiality. The building is divided into two floors: the first one, the entrance, presents a fully museum program using two spaces: one is a sort of gallery that is very related to the part of the garden and the other one more flexible and independent; the second floor, on the other hand, is entirely public; offers a multifunctional space with a restaurant area, relaxation area, bookshop, study room and conference room.
The strong point of the project is certainly the garden; this, designed as an active and accessible exhibition space, brings light and atmosphere to the interior. Moreover, occupying the corner that from Rome, it looks like a new green façade overlooking the city.
