HOMECOMING The Cub

Homecoming Proposals By Bethany Acton and Sarah Fox

It was that time of the year again, the pressure was on. Boys were wondering who they would ask and the girls were wondering who would be asking them. You will always remember the way you were asked to homecoming whether it was good or bad. Matthew Meidinger. for instance, asked Hannah Waldrop after one of his home football games. He wrote on a football,“Will you be my catch to Hoco?” He followed it with red roses. Meidinger scored with that homecoming proposal and it seemed that there were all pros and zero cons. Way to go, Matt! Although some homecoming proposals don't always work out like Meidinger’s, take Dylan Peterson

for instance. While attempting to ask his girlfriend Sarah Fox with her favorite sushi and roses, Peterson’s excitement caused him to get into a little bit of a parking incident while trying to ask Fox to homecoming. Yikes! Peterson finally got to ask her to homecoming. He simply asked, “Will you go to homecoming with me... please?” Better luck next time, Peterson. Unlike Peterson, Brady Parker’s proposal was a big success. While asking Jordan Stapleton. He said, “I asked her with flowers, a poster, and cracker jacks. The poster read, “I’m not no Nathan Scott, but I don't wanna be anything other than your homecoming date.” She said OMG and freaked out. Great job, Parker!

Blowing whistles, running laps, learning positions and much more were expected of the junior and senior girls who decided to participate in the Powderpuff game. Both teams were coached by a few football players from their respective grades, but in the end only one team could win. This year, the seniors won 49-21, even though both teams spent so much time preparing for the game. Davis Mihelich, the quarterback, receiver, and defensive back coach for the junior girls; said that the hardest part of practice was, “getting the girls to understand the rules of football,” This was an especially difficult thing to teach the juniors because they were learning for the

first time. The seniors, already having a year of experience, had practices go a little smoother. Head coach Bryce Hornbeck said the practices went, “Really good. The girls pick things up really fast.” This was definitely evident during the game as the seniors were able to score seven touchdowns while holding the juniors to only three. Sophie Stewart, the junior running back, felt she learned a lot over the week at the practices. When asked, she said she learned, “The basics of how to throw and catch the ball, and some plays and how to be a runningback.” The basics are the most important parts of football and need to be mastered. Kate Morgan, the quar-

terback and safety for the senior girls, already had a year of experience so she was able to get a little more technical. “Reid taught me how to throw a tight spiral, Stroos taught me good communication on defense, and Bryce taught me a lot.” Although both teams worked very hard, the seniors, having more knowledge and more plays, came away with a landslide victory.
