LYCABETTUS HILL | ANALYSIS
4 linear routes to the landscape of Lycabettus Arch.Uth | Thesis Project Team | Krampokouki Christina, Liapopoulou Anna, Spiropoulou Gewrgia Supervisors | Paniyiris Costis, Papadopoulos Lois Period | Winter 2015 Location | Lycabettus Hill, Athens, Greece There are two ways to climb a mountain. On the one hand, the helical paths aiming at a smoother touring experience in nature. On the other hand, linear, steep paths that the walker uses for a more experiential, intense experience through hiking. This walker does not seek comfort but more rugged and tedious routes, which can create sensations during ascent before the final goal. Having these two conditions in use, the hill of Lycabettus is changed to a hybrid landscape of contradictions attached within the urban fabric. Artificial linear paths contradict to the polymorphic tour of natural pathways, but also create a connection with the Athenian cityscape. The specific orientation of the linear path gives a visual equivalent to the filmic, which because of its economy shrinks the landscape and changes it to an intermediate element that connects two or more points. The gradual distancing or approach from and to the landmarks, produces a constant zoom in and out capable of creating an interesting visual experience. The user as trying to “conquer the peak” and the ultimate view of the Athenian city, follows these four straight paths that pass through Lycabettus and are strengthened through the uses of stops that are interposed. Four different routes, four different points of interest in the city, four different experiences that are joined at the peak on a square: 1. The steep - sunken stairway turns its eyes towards the hill of Strefi 2. The mechanical - hanging route facing the Acropolis 3. The local path of the water ends up in the square Deksameni, facing the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Saronikos bay 4. The smooth path extending to the modern city

ACADEMIC WORK tain his labor activity and to spread it. It composes a platformof immediate diffusion and notification of the work. We could say that the labor products, which are part of the archive, and connected with other databases, can be disseminated digitally as information and maybe sold in digital version. The digital and archiving labor in material terms consists of facilities and equipment of networking supplies, electricity, digitilization rooms of information storage and diversion, server rooms.

The meanings of production and labor need a new meaning. This project negotiates with a new working and production condition that has an immaterial nature: “Since the production of services results in no material and durable good, we define the labor involved in this production as immaterial labor — that is, labor that produces an immaterial good, such as a service, a cultural product, knowledge, or communication.” Negri and Hardt upon Immaterial Labour [p. 290]
The proposed idea is the creation of a labor machine for the constitution of an archive that has a new type of labor production and its distribution. This new labor condition that the worker faces nowadays is a situation between work and indolence, where the worker walks the line among different fields in which he is adapted in the name of productivity. As he is producing all the time, his products may not have immediate release to the market. He is precarious during labor’s procedure, like an internet browser or a computer (switching from one interface to another, from one tab to another, from one environment to another) inside an atmosphere constantly alternate and chaotic. His labor activity is characterized from networking either with other employees or with temporary employers. His labor and his products can be considered as immaterials, useful to create a digital archive). Certainly, the labor’s life interferes with the leisure time, so that the worker is in a state of a continuous employment alterness. When this condition comes to extremes, it can be mixed with the biological needs creating thus an interesting oddity. It’s worth mentioning that this type of employee needs seemingly minimum facilities to work or better, facilities that are presented as immaterials or invisibles (wireless networks, electric current, charging devices, internet, storage devices). The condition that is created, the people and teams that are in a continuous labor process (productive or not) are asked to occupy the space to prepare projects with the only requirement that their products (of any kind) are deposited in a big digital archive. This archive is copyrighted and is opened to everyone. It is about a condition of networking, with constant influx into files, enrichment of the archives with any information that is produced inside this archival digital lab. And this is a way for every producer-employee to main10

Arch.Uth | Super Paradise Design Studio Team | Fousteri Athina, Liapopoulou Anna, Spiropoulou Giouli Supervisors | Paniyiris Costis, Papadopoulos Lois Period | Spring 2014 Location | Santorini, Greece The main concept of this project refers to the revision of the tourist ideals in Greece and to the dominant architectural example. In this context, a design approach of gentrification of the heavenly conception of greek landscape will be suggested. One of these landscapes of tourist interest is the island Santorini. It is the island where the project Cave Hotel is located. A white veil of dwellings hangs onto the cliffs of the island. Everyone is searching to be arrogated a small piece of land and to possess the view of Aegean sea, making incessantly holes to the landscape of Santorini. The cave houses compose the building regulations of Santorini. In this way, perceiving its characteristics and commenting them, the design of a cave hotel in Imerovigli is proposed. Imerovigli is one of the most privileged places of view. The hotel follows the cliff’s inclination while three holes are opened in the cliff, two vertical and one horizontal. The vertical holes serve to the lighting of the cave building and include the rooms which turn their back to the view of the Aegean Sea. Unlike, the horizontal one includes the public spaces which have a look of the sea, Oia village, Foinikia village and the volcano.

Rethink Athens Arch.Uth | Architecture Design Studio IV Team | Kapodistria Niovi, Liapopoulou Anna Supervisors | Antonas Aristide, Vyzoviti Sophia Period | Spring 2012 Location | Athens, Greece Public space, monuments and transportation have an important role to the cityscape of Athens. The monuments are tourist attractions and remind us of the ancient Athens and the several changes of the city’s urban environment. The view to the Acropolis and other special ancient findings is an approach that can be vital to the design of public space. The public space of the city ground is a common view to every single city. But what happens if we focus also on the upper level of the city’s buildings, the terraces that have no identity and are of no use? What happens also with the derelict buildings, not about to be demolished, in combination with the empty space of terraces? Reusing the terraces and external facades of three buildings in the street Leoforos Amalias, that are abandoned, we create a public space up&down the city. This up&down approach focuses on the different views to the cityscape. Transportation is organised as well to serve for every different level of public space. On the ground level, there are five zones of transportation: pedestrian, bicycle path, tram path, low grass with water dams, grass with water dams. On the upper level there is one zone of transportation. This is the new high technology scytran that is above the city. Skytran stops to the two rooftops of the derelict buildings of the project area and has also other stations in the city of Athens. The three abandoned buildings will be used to host different uses. The first one includes the skytran station with a ramp, an elevator and a rooftop public spacesquare that composes three terraces meeting its other with a pedestrian bridge. The second includes a skytran station, stairs, elevator and an exterior amphitheater. The third, a rooftop open air cinema, stairs and elevator.

Finnoo Marina City Arch.Uth | Competition entry | Urban Planning Team | Karaferas Giwrgos, Karali Natalia, Liapopoulou Anna, Supervisors | Ioannidis Kostantinos, Trova Vasso Period | Spring 2012 Location | Finnoo Marina City, Finland The main purpose of the project was the creation of a developed suburban center, which is located close to Helsinki, and which is able to combine both the advantages of the countryside and the privileges of the city. The basic influence on the design idea was the intention for smooth incorporation of the marine in the given location. This was approached by splitting the marina in individual parts, holding the logic of small islands and peninsulas that already exist in the location. Additionally, another goal that was set during the design, was the extention of the marina to the sea. So, the principal places of residence, as well as, the public spaces are oriented towards the open sea, taking advantage of the above landscape’s benefit. A factor that was seriously taken into consideration, was the factory, which is the landmark of the area. Thus, we wanted to extend this industrial zone by placing functions of the marina, such us the drystack storage and the boat hotels, inside the factory area. The main parking areas are situated in the same area too. A visual and an acoustic filter was placed between the factory site and the residential area. This was achieved by the development of the main road and the opening of a canal. Regarding the project’s functions, we wanted to mix the different uses, simulating the cities’ design idea, so that the project would not be a complex of different subject areas, but a miniature city. The same technique was followed in all functions, public, commercial, residential , recreational as well as in the requirements of the marina.

Arch.Uth | Architecture Design Studio III Team | Faliagka Evelina, Liapopoulou Anna Supervisors | Triantafillidis Giorgos Period | Winter 2012 Location | Volos, Greece The project is located in a central road of Volos city and most specifically in Panepistimiou Square covering two blocks (between Chatziargiri and Pavlou Mela road). The project is about a mixed-use building where the meaning of the temporary housing, the collective and the individual activities compose a comprehensive building program. Nowadays, the labor rhythm of Volos city is more intense, a fact that we also meet in other cities. In particular, labor spaces dominate in Volos, while recreation areas and public spaces haven’t depeloped enough and have a second role. So, the need of having a space of temporary relaxation of employees and visitors of the city, where the tourism has an important role, is very vital. The project is about the coexistence of sleeping boxes (spaces of relaxation and accommodation for a few hours, days, months, weeks) with the recreational areas and public space. The aim is the coexistence of different social groups through the public space and cultural events, but also through spaces that people should relax and isolate.
