Having a few tried and tested activities or methods at their disposal can help teachers feel more comfortable with teaching. It also allows them to make adjustments when necessary. A teaching rut is a place where the sense of perspective doesn’t exist. It’s a place where the endlessness of teaching makes one feel like they are doing it for the longest time. 1. Start Class Differently With some of your groups, start the class by asking the kids if they have any news to share. This strategy works with all ages of students. It’s a new, fresh and unexpected experience for them. It can inject some energy into the class and the students. 2. Use New Sources For some teachers, the internet is a great source of new ideas to try beyond the usual. Instead of searching for basic articles, look for articles written by other teachers. 3. Change The Seating Arrangements For one day, rearrange the seating in all groups. Some teachers have not used a seating chart in their classes because it’s not ideal for anyone. Instead, pair students up in a different manner each week. Seeing a new dynamic in the classroom can be uplifting for the teacher and students. 4. Use New Teaching Tools After overcoming the fear of technology, create an online Jeopardy game called Jeopardy Rocks. It is very easy to make, and your students will have a great time playing it. Always be on the lookout for new tools and games to utilize. 5. Change The Way You End The Day At the end of each day, ask the students to think about three things they learned in class that week. Then, ask them to come up with a question that relates to what they learned. Have them all try to end the day on a positive note. The devil can often be found in the smallest of details. Small changes can make a big difference. However, they should not be the sole reason for making changes. Learning how to deliver an effective lesson is not an easy task.
