Companies everywhere are at risk of becoming a victim of cybercrime. Some experts even predict that by 2025, cybercrime will cost the world over $10.5 annually. Unfortunately, many small businesses are at risk of being targeted in cyberattacks. Below are some ways that you and your company can become more protected.

Adopt a zero-trust framework in regards to AI and Machine Learning Is your IT security set up in a way that once you get in and confirm your identity, you’re free to look around and do anything? This is a common way people find themselves vulnerable to a cyberattack. Once a criminal has access to your internal system, all of your connected systems are at risk, so adopting the idea of a zero-trust framework can actually save you. This way, you only give your employees the access they need to do their job.

Two-factor authentication may seem annoying and unnecessary, but the added security is the opposite. Educating your team on why passwords alone aren’t the safest way to protect your belongings is essential. Giving your phone number or email address puts up another gate that a hacker can’t log into. Hackers can break a code, but they don’t have your number. You can work with your IT team to include two-factor authentication in as many places as possible. The thing to remember is that it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Train your staff on cybersecurity basics Innocence isn’t always bliss. People may not have heard of the havoc that a hacker can wreck with access to someone’s account. People may have heard about the well-known phishing tactics or ransomware attacks that frequently make headlines, but even a small-scale breach can hurt even the smallest community. Remember that the “why” someone should do something is just as important as telling people what to do. Giving an understanding of cybersecurity and the threats that come with it moves the ball to their court. Your employees begin to think more rationally, and they begin to understand why something like Two Factor authentication is so important. It takes time to train people to understand exactly what’s going on during a phishing scam, but it gives the people in your office a sense of security. Baseline information is essential when teaching anyone anything. Do not use scare tactics when trying to get people to see your point of view, as well. You’ll just shut them out. Fear can only get you so far. Cybercrime is important and should be treated as such. These are just a few ways that you can make sure that your team is just as safe as you are.
