Flylow got its start when a couple of friends started dreaming of ways to make more functional ski gear. They imagined outerwear that was built tough enough to climb mountains—watertight, stormproof, and ventilated—but was designed for skiers and their first chair to last call culture. Flylow has grown over the years but we haven’t strayed from our roots. YetiLoft™ synthetic down insulation
Polartec NeoShell is the first fully breathable and waterproof temperatureregulating fabric. Its supreme breathability has been tested and proven by some of the strongest athletes in the world in the most extreme climates. This polyurethane membrane is stretched thinner than any other membrane in the world, giving it unrivaled breathability. Polartec allows Flylow to select the appropriate face fabric for our needs and construct the fabric to order.
Flylow’s micropuff synthetic down insulation, called YetiLoft, was designed to maintain warmth in an extremely packable form. In order to create this insulation, we removed the film standard synthetic pile used to maintain form and instead designed our stitch patterns to control the fill. The result is packability without sacrificing warmth. YetiLoft was also developed to perform

Durable Water Repellent (DWR)
Here at Flylow, we believe the clothes you wear are only as good as the fabric they are stitched from. So we created Flylow’s proprietary Intuitive fabric in order to choose the perfect face fabric, membrane, and backing for each individual line of apparel we make. We choose from nylons and polyester face fabrics, then pair them with high-performing DWR, 20k/20k membranes and 10k/10k membranes to maximize the performance of every product.
All of our exterior shells and midlayers are treated with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating, which stops precipitation from soaking into the fibers of a product’s face fabric, aiding in quick fabric dry times and helping you stay dry and warm in storms. All of our technical garments will retain 80% water
Nylon Oxford Cordura This tough canvas-like cloth fabric, which is often used as pack cloth in the military, adds durability, abrasion-resistance, and hardiness to the knees and cuffs of Flylow pants. High-grade Cordura means you’ll have to try harder to cut up the bottom of your pants with your ski edges. (Good luck with that.)
DownTek™ DownTek is made from 800- and 600-fill power European goose down clusters and feathers that are bathed in Durable Water Repellent, creating a warming insulator that’s actually water resistant. DownTek can be found in many of our insulated down jackets and layering pieces. Its main benefits are supreme warmth, surprising packability, water repellency, and the ability to regulate temperature.

YetiWool™ YetiWool is Flylow’s propriety synthetic wool, often blended with polyester in the case of our flannels, which offer the characteristics of soft, natural fibers. It boasts all the benefits of pure wool—warmth, longevity, temperatureregulating, odor-neutralizing—while maintaining the comfort, quick-drying, and softness of synthetic properties.
S/G Lite™ S/G Lite stands for Stash ’n Go Lite. This propriety material offers a balance between thin fibers and long-lasting durability. The idea is that we’re balancing packability and lightweight fibers with a durable material like ripstop or taffeta. Products made with this fabric are wind-resistant and sturdy against the elements, but they’re also light and packable.

What He’s Learned
Dave “Gomez” Johnson spends his winters in Bozeman, Montana, and his summers enjoying winter in South America. A former Big Sky ski patroller, he’s worked as a guide in the adventure travel business for over 10 years. In 2007, he purchased CASA Tours, which leads ski and snowboard trips through Chile and Argentina.
THIS IS WHAT HE’S LEARNED IN THE MOUNTAINS: Alex Lowe once said, “The best skier on the mountain is the one having the most fun.” I agree with that.

I once got lost in Japan. I got overzealous on my first day and didn’t go with my gut instinct. I had to hike out over five hours in nipple-deep powder. Keeping my head together got me out. The biggest mistakes I’ve made in the mountains all come back to listening to your gut instincts. I believe there’s backcountry etiquette that should be followed. Don’t drop in on others, ski to safe zones, and get out of the way. Don’t be afraid to say no or that you are not comfortable with the situation. Plans should be flexible. Good skiers are the ones who make skiing crappy conditions look smooth. Be open to the random adventure you didn't plan. Investing in your outerwear gives you a huge advantage in dealing with Mother Nature’s intense elements. It can be a lot more fun being the last one on the mountain than the first one in line. The mountains will always be bigger than you are. Stay humble and realize how fortunate we are to be part of this community and play in these spectacular playgrounds.
Utah native and former Freeskiing World Tour competitor Michele Manning now calls Leavenworth, Washington, home. The former Alta ski patroller appeared in Powderwhore Productions’ 2013 film, Elevation, and she’s been on a mission to ski as many volcanoes in the Northwest’s Cascade Range as she can.
HERE’S WHAT SHE’S LEARNED IN THE MOUNTAINS: The best advice I’ve gotten about skiing is from my friend Jim Jack. He showed me to always be aware of my surroundings and ski in control. The most important thing I learned from Jim is to share the joy you find in the mountains with your friends. There’s a certain excitement that comes from heading out into the unknown to climb or ski something I haven’t seen before. I really enjoy the puzzle of finding the best route up a mountain. Any skiing is fun when you’re with your friends, just having a good time outside. MICHELE MANNING
What She’s Learned
Things will always go wrong on a road trip. I had an experience where the roof box ripped off the car on the freeway with nine pairs of skis in it. So we stacked the skis up around us inside the car and drove on. The best thing is to stay one step ahead and plan your adventure well. Never put your goggles up on your head when it’s snowing. Nobody likes foggy goggles. I make my own granola bars out of high-energy healthy food: dates, raw cashews, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, sesame seeds, and peanut butter. My favorite piece of ski gear is the Flylow vest. I love it. I don’t leave home without it ever, summer or winter. It’s really dirty. I bring a little kite in my backcountry pack. Just in case I feel like flying it at the summit.

Gear Strong Enough for Women Here’s how ski clothing for ladies has traditionally been made: Take whatever the men have, make it a little smaller, a little less tough, and sprinkle in some pretty colors and designs. Here at Flylow, we thought we might do things a little differently. We still make sure our jackets and pants look nice and ďŹ t right, because that stuff matters, too. But most importantly, we realize that the women out there climbing mountains and skiing down them are an incredibly strong breed and more than anything, they need gear that’ll keep up with them.
