Our focus is on those areas defined as terrain vagues or teirs paysage: urban leftovers, ruins, forgotten territories that are excluded from the daily dynamics of the city. The former railway yard of San Cristoforo lies at the edge of Milan, in a suburb that fades into the country landscape of Parco Agricolo Sud. The main goal is to understand that such a place is not to be merely observed negatively. Rather, it is to be considered a resourceful place, of which the potential is yet to be discovered and acknowledged. The way to approach the place has to stay true to its essence. The place has to be gradually studied and understood in order to penetrate it as part of the same system. In such way, the process of studying and mapping becomes self-determing. The intention is to associate the traditional scientific and objective method, to a more poetic approach. The latter, has the important purpose of reaching the core of the

human experience in a direct and personal manner. Walking and mapping through the body becomes a holistic experience. Here, the cartographic representaion is not limited by the representation of physical and objective values as they are traditionally intended. Infact, it also must include other emotional and evocative elements. The undefined nature of this space and the discovery of thousands of possible landscapes, invites us to maintain the vague character of the place. Here, relations and interactions between different elements merge into a new environment. This, is a new landscape that stands between the influence of nature and a hinted structure. The new landscape is composed by many elements, and the interaction among these allow a constant and continuos alteration and modification of it. The new definition is therefore described by undefinition, vagueness, infinite possibilities and blurred limits. Our challenge is to provide to this new landscape a structure that makes infinite possibilities possible.

Four landscapes In the park the abandoned station structure finds itself in a “bucolic valley. It is a landing place in the green that goes inside it and gets involved. Mineral and natural are melted together composing a new story. This is the way each floor transforms itself in a different landscape, that mutates accordingly with the season cycle and the pass of the years. The spirit of the structure is accepted and respected. A light system of infrastructures invades it and allows it to be habitable. The spaces permit unlimited uses on each floor and keep a strong relationship with the park nearby that is scattered by little pavilions and platforms. These are additional landing places surrounded by wild nature.

possible square A new point of contact binds San Cristoforo station to Naviglio Grande bank. Where the city is closer to the park, an unexpected square emerges, becoming a knot of connection between the station and the opposite site of the city. A subservices network branches off to a grid that organises the public space. The square adapts and renovates itself according to the uses or the specific event, in this way different conformations and uses of the public space are allowed. The network is an hidden layout that permits the setup of any kind of temporary structure or device.

vertical walk A long vertical walk that passes the trees crowns and almost touches the clouds. Where the park turns itself into a very narrow green strip, through the crowns of the trees, a light tower grows: a strange change during the walk that can transform itself into a vertical experience. The tower structure invites the nature to climb inside it, therefore the visitor who is going up is always in contact with it. Thanks to the height, new habitats and different landscapes are experienced. The park gains a new dimension.

We decided to create a kind of model that would be able to illustrate and be literally a story to browse according to all the drawings. Each page of the pop-up book is the narration of a spot, a detail of the project, from all the different floors of the abandoned station to the tower of the vertical walk.

collACTION (Collective Actions – a collection of participated practices) was born as a Bachelor Thesis project. A blog that weaves together a network of uses and people, an open platform of uses where spontaneous creativity and horizontal exchange pratices show to have the potential to modify urban space and social dynamics. In spring 2015 collACTION had the possibility to curate and participate to one month talks’ palimpsest during #nevicata14LAB in Expogate: bringing together a virtual network (students, collectives, activists and architects from all over the world), that had the possibility to actually meet up and debate. collACTION is an ongoing project, that involves both research and design projects. La Scatola di Legno has been the first realized project, that set up a new moment of research. Lately collACTION took part to Atmospheres 2016 Competition, winning a mention for the project “Cambusa”.

La Scatola di Legno is a temporary wooden structure set up to give a special value to the inner courtyard of Cascina Martesana in Milan: it supports the association’s activities, as social events, workshops, exhibitions, markets and chillout areas. The structure is composed by double fir wooden elements. The details are studied to let part of the facade to be reversed, transforming the structure into a scenic space, a stage ready for new upcoming shows. The space is flexible and multifunctional, open to different atmospheres. Once the structural elements have been settled, La Scatola di Legno has been built together with a group of students and involved people. A first workshop completed the finishing with recycled materials. The floor has been made out of recycled construction-site boards, together with the other vertical components. The roof is in pvc panels, letting the light in for most of the day. Since it is there, music nights, reading book club, yoga classes and artist exhibitions are taking place in La Scatola di Legno. The project has been supported by a crowdfunding campaign on Ulule.

A PAUSE TO EAT, SHARE AND BLABLA
41
Cambusa wants to be a “pause” into the architecure campus of Politecnico of Milan, where you can warm up your own lunch box, create a good sandwich or have a tea during the working nights at Politecnico. Cambusa is composed by a simple black iron structure, to wich an orange strip twists and turns, and different elements, like shelfs and boxes, hang theirself. All the hung elements let Cambusa to become a really “active tool” of preparation and creation of all kind of meal. It won’t be only a physical support to all these activities but it will be symbol of sharing, respect and sustainability. Microwaves will be hosted in the boxes, while tea pots will be over the strip. The shelfs could be filled up by left-overs or objects not used at home.

The DIG IT project is about a series of thinkings about leisure time. Until the last century it was thought that new technologies would create a leisure society and that all the work would be made by computerization and automation. Actually, the continous development oh IT devices has produced a society that today is defined by “continuous work. What is presented as the highest form of freedom results, on the other hand, as a costant obligation of being always reachable and connected. Everyday frenetic life conflicts with the need of calm and thought, that on the contrary are requested to understand all aspects of any event. It is through the image of the dig that we express the desire to give a dedicated place for this needs. Through different digged ambients visitors will be able to have several experiences. Through this experience men regain the ability to approach to events and mature intimacy with them. The project is in fact a real digged path inside an artificial cave, that returns to be a natural place. Anyone can take possession of this site, which is shaped according to specific needs and allows the visitors to isolate themselves, share, participate and create.

The course aim is a building restoration in the historical centre in Milan, in via Giusti 39. We are in China Town, few steps from Castello Sforzesco, the living heart of the city centre. The restoration has to present a commercial area on the ground floor and residential on the following ones. The project imagines the realization of a restaurant, called “to my house, that shares the ground floor space with the flat belongin to restaurant owners. The others two floors are dedicated to unique apartments, according to the clients taste. The requalification is about the replacement of new foundation structures, design of new residential units, study of the building technology, selection of design furniture and complete replacement of the roof.

shape me Installation Atmospheres 2014 Competition Collaborators_/// 2014
58
The recreation and suggestion of an “environmental atmosphere” that could be a minimal space, an internal environment, an open space, an imaginary place, a place to be. The unique element of the whole installation is a plexiglass box (25x25x25 cm) in which, or on its surfaces, each student created its personal striking atmosphere. “Shape me” grows probably from the unconscious desire to own a new object, that will be completely adaptable and mutable to a specific desire. It always transforms itself in a new and different work that allows us to express what we really want in that specific moment. It has been created with flour, plastic balloon and a bottle.
