ROYAL QUARTER CAFÉ Royal Quarter Café is the latest opening for the Quarter Group, which owns a number of restaurants across London. The café is conjoined of two areas covering 69 seats. Supervised by the ‘Geometry’ studio art director Irina Glik, I was responsible for leading the project from the first stages up to the opening day. My responsibilities included creating presentations and mood boards, space planning, developing a set of working drawings, sourcing materials, and raising proformas as well as negotiation with the architect, builders, and other participants of the project. Moreover, I participated in site visits in order to check the progress and arrange possible amendments.

CHELSEA QUARTER CAFÉ Chelsea Quarter Café is a warm family run eatery by the Quarter Group. The ‘Geometry’ studio developed a project and ‘Heal’s’ design team proposed the ready-made furniture pieces. Working within the existing café environment, we were to propose a basement floor reconstruction and design in order to enlarge the functioning customer areas. The project was delivered in a six week period.

BROMPTON ASIAN BRASSERIE Brompton Asian Brasserie is a second London-based opening by Arcady Novikov, a Russian celebrity chef. The restaurant comprises two floors. The ground floor provides a space for casual dining experience, while the lower ground floor is a late night area, covering 73 and 53 seats accordingly. I joined the ‘Geometry’ studio when the project concept was approved. My position included working drawings set development, negotiation with contractors in regard to the new engineering services as well as FF&E sourcing on later stages. Two open kitchens required by the client and site specifics made this project a challenge.

TOUCHING THE BEYOND In my research, I intended to probe on sensations formed by perception. I aimed to investigate the engagement of the figure and space as a process of mediation between physical and metaphysical spatial experiences and sought to determine the processes, which form both domains of the perception. For my investigations, I referred to the architecture of a dome as well as its imaginative value. The outcome was the apparatus forming the Dome-Image’. Research process throughout the year is reflected in my blog: http://maisdamokhova.blogspot.com

TRANSLATION OF DREAMS The outcome of the project is a book, which introduces a reader to a space. The book tells a story of a journey one takes up in the space of the house. Starting my work on this project, I was inspired by a dream about a boathouse on the coast of the sea, and this narrative brought me to the organization of the living space by means of architectural elements which appeared in my dream. A PEARL IN THE DESERT The project is a study of engaging philosophy with spatial design. “Listening” to the building, I resurrected its hidden essence as a spatial installation of the ruined old structure in juxtaposition with a new one. In the book presenting the project one travels in the spatial tissue of the building throughout a 24-hour period. As the journey happens, day becomes night, and the explored space becomes an image.
