In her "Flora" series, Julia collages elements and layers of her etchings. The artist cuts up sections of specific flora and tries to give them order. In these pieces, she is creating organized, decorative interpretations of wildness – cleaning up what is untamed and unmanageable. In doing this, Julia is thinking about how humans idealize nature and want it to fit neatly into modern life. The work attempts to depict this control of wildness, but neatly within the confines of a frame.

As a mixed media painter and poet, Jacqueline Dee Parker's work crosspollinates, stirred by the correspondence between these art forms. Just as words, sounds and images rooted in emotional memory may trigger the composition of a poem, collage elements move the artist to build layers and texture. Exposure to the art of architecture encouraged her interest in spatial relationships, and music stirred reflection and altered the sense of place and time. Together, these ingredients fostered an affinity for abstraction and design.

GEORGE KARL PFAHLER Emetzheim, Germany 1937-2002
George Karl Pfahler studied at the Kunstakademie Stuttgart under Willi Baumeister, graduating in 1954. Initially working as a sculptor, it was Baumeister who encouraged Pfahler to focus on painting. He quickly simplified his paintings to adopt an innovative abstract geometric painting style, with block-like forms on crisp backgrounds appearing on his canvasses as early as 1962. It was then that Pfahler continued to reduce his style even further to exclusively focus on the dynamic between shapes, and to examine the deeper relationships between space and color. Pfahler became a thought leader and one of the first European artists to simultaneously work in action, color field, and hard edge painting. Even after his death in 2002, he remains to this day at the forefront of the color field painting movement; creating an impressive depth of work that is represented in several important private and publis collections around the world.

"Silk Road refers to the flow of people, culture, goods and languages along the silk road to and from China centuries ago. The meaning is relevant to the letter like shapes, and to the sense of flow in this work. I see languages flowing back and forth along with the silk road as much as the flowing of goods." - Richard Taylor

John Harlan Norris is an artist, professor and musician originally from Nicholasville, Kentucky. His "Disintigrants" series seeks a form of portraiture that describes the departure of its subjects from their physical entities. Rather than focusing on traditional portrait elements of likeness, anatomy and contextual surroundings, these portraits are concerned with more abstract characteristics such as cognition, motivation and transition.

Ancizar Marin creates multi-figure installations in which the forms engage with one another in dynamic groupings that can be arranged and rearranged at will. Pard Morrison’s work is both sculptural and painterly. Morrison constructs each labor-intensive piece by hand, welding the aluminum structure and firing each color of pigment separately in a process the artist describes as “patination”. His distinct patterns in vibrant reds, blues, greens, yellows, along with more muted earth tones come together to create each distinct piece. The large-scale pieces use color blocks that give the illusion of greater depth.

"I was very inspired by the history, products and mission of the company. Overall, I wanted to have this installation present itself at first glance as a series of individual house forms connected or linked (as we are now in this age), not only with the wire knotting between each tile, but with the flowing blue watered colored glass used in each tile. Water as a universal theme
The relationship to water is a universal connection that people of all walks of life can identify with. Our waters, oceans and seas provide a pillar in the way we perceive our surroundings. John Folsom's interpretation of water is an example of a view of water that ilicits a response of thoughtfulness, engagement and introspection.

Mixed media artist John Folsom received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema and Photography from Southern Illinois University. Folsom's photographic paintings utilize a mixed media process dealing with photograph, painting and wax. Following the theme of water, these pieces were created to respond to the universal experience surrounding the nature of water.

SARAH WINKLER Morrison, Colorado
Sarah Winkler is a British born contemporary artist working in Colorado. She studied Art and Earth Science at William Paterson University, and she combines both subjects in her geological landscapes and environmental artworks. Geological research of specific areas assists in the visual and thematic choices that create each body of work. Winkler works experimentally with paint, pigment, additives, resists, brushes and unconventional tools to create textures and imagery that mimic the forces and patterns of nature that sculpt and change landscapes over time. The cut and layered aesthetic in her work reinforces concepts that the Earth is not a static place.

Sara is a southern photographer focusing on alternative processes in digital photography. Her nature-based abstract imagery is a study in how the human brain interprets what it perceives. Much of Sara's photography involved layering basic elements with water, resulting in a fluid, dynamic, abstract image.

Meredith combines the random actions of painting with controlled, deliberate mark-making to describe each form in her work, which often appears floral or plantlike in structure. The canvases are composed of organic forms that derive from those found in nature, but ultimately the paintings are a visual record of an unplanned dialogue between the artist and a blank canvas. Meredith explores the relationship between form and the ground. The space is pushed and pulled through the tension of positive and negative spaces and through the dynamic of the compositions, which generally tend to rotate or undulate within the framework of the canvas.

Over David Humphrey's thirty year career as a photographer and artist, he has always worked in grids and segments. The artist sees life in this form of structure. Dave separates the subtle nuances of an image and creates an understanding of what makes the subject so special. Each image starts as a photograph. The initial image is dissected into varying parts, based on the subject matter. Then each image is hand applied as a collage onto varying media. The subtle changes that occur during the process seem to add to the final result.

Alex Paradowski began his career as a graphic designer. His most current work combines the time honored techniques of paper making and mosaic with today's technology of digital photography to create mosaics from hand cast paper cubes. These mosaics seem to have two realities — a colorful abstract when viewed close and photographic reality when viewed from a distance.

Eliminating details in pursuit of a contemporary abstract arrangement of shapes is the goal. Masses are kept simple and flat with emphasis on color and composition. A limited soft color palette, which is mixed intuitively, preserves the harmony and calm mood of the painting. Dark objects add contrast and form organic shapes. Bright light colors add highlight interest. Multiple thin layers of color and texture build the shapes and forms within the paint resulting in an image where mood takes precedence over place.
