Michael Buscemi Hand Cut Rag Paper Collage, Framed Can be commissioned to size

The white collages came to me in a quest to eliminate all existing media; Leaving only light shape & shadow. I love the way they change dramatically with a different environment and or light source. The cutting of the extra thick paper is strenuous and requires a swift and fluid cut. This process is repeated thousands of times. I let the shadows cast determine where to build and layer. I love to make them undulate and allow the forms to remain organic yet suggestive.

“I use traditional methods of painting, oil, acrylic, pencils, sometimes collage, to capture moments of action that lead me to a place of visual harmony. I start with the canvas outside on the ground and work as I walk around it.

I then stretch the canvas in my studio, then there is a long process of work and examination. The piece is complete when it reaches its own harmony.�

Master Studio Workroom Mixed Media on Gessoed Paper Unframed

A special collection of original works from the studio of Mel Dewees. These works are a collaboration between professional artists of different backgrounds and mediums that use the works as warm up excercises for their individual work. The nature of the authorship is more obscure, and in result the pieces are presented more like drawings.
