HEALING ARTS PROGRAM WOMAN’S HOSPITAL, BATON ROUGE
THE INSPIRATION
Following the dedication of the Woman’s Hospital program, Ann Connelly Fine Art aims to engage patients, staff and visitors on a meaningful level through art that serves to inspire, promote positivity and create an environment of healing. The artwork selected will be diverse in scale and voice with a dynamic use of media intended to resonate with individuals from every walk of life.

QUALIFICATION & SELECTION
The consultants for the Healing Arts Program sent out a national call to artists to qualify and select artists with merit in quality, color, using a variety of media and substrates. The qualification process involved looking at the artists, their work and how each piece fit into creating a positive visual story for the Woman’s Hospital, its staff, and visitors.
JILL RICCI, New Jersey The artist uses layers of collages items from found materials, curated images and layers of paint and mixed media to create a quilt-like pattern. The many veils of the work add visual interest so that each time you revisit the piece, you will likely find something you had never noticed before.

KATE BLACKLOCK A fine art photographer by training, the artist uses her skills in digital photography and alternative processes to create imagery using high resolution scans, x-ray processing and other tools to create imagery of fauna and flora that is ethereal and brings a vibrant energy to the subject.

JERI EISENBERG The artwork is a combination of printmaking and photography. The artist creates work through a soft lens to evoke a sense of memory and a positive distraction. Her work focuses on the sometimes unnoticed beauty in the everyday natural world.

The painting installations reference the natural world. The individual images are abstracted and recombined to convey the patterns, rhythms, and underlying forces inherent in our immediate environment.

GRETCHEN WELLER HOWARD The light-hearted approach to the artwork is intended as a moment to allow the viewers mind to wander and day dream. The colorful birds signify a world of possibility and a bright future, not flying off into the distance, but as they are poised for the great leap.

MICHAEL BUSCEMI Buscemi cuts layers of thick white paper, collaging and layering them into richly patterned, glowing compositions that bridge the division between sculpture and drawing. The soft collage creates a since of water, branches, and flora.

TRACEY ADAMS Applying soft layers of encaustic wax, Japanese papers and subtle mark-making, the artist creates and environment referencing flora, fauna, water, and sky. The installation is created with multiple windows, each giving a view into a moment in nature.

STEVE SCHNEIDER This series “River Spirit” was inspired by walks and gatherings along the Mississippi River that ran just over the levee from Schneider’s studio. The artist prefers to use colors and bright palettes to give the nature scenes a feeling of calm energy and movement.
