Beauty On All Sides Look around; there's beauty on all sides Look around and tell me what you see deep inside this wilderness with savages by fireside nocturnal mystery and the aftermath of carnal eyes whispers and your hands in the night these are dreams we make this is the life we share we are only vessels for the light we are life celebrating life walking in the garden of delight we are life celebrating life I came see the fantasy still lingering around but who can say if I was really there?
Starry Dynamo What crazed eyes have already seen The end of things Wet green eyes forest The blood of birth and death And the ever present possibility of dying alone Out there on the edge of firmament we all Naked and dancing One star in sight
Lion Moon The moon through the tree peeking through like a voyeur shining full on naked bodies staring back at her the illusion of division everywhere the center of her smoke and bare dimness what the caterpillar said it doesn't stop here but don't look past yourself too far it is here and now the balance of fools the boldness of orange stripes the old lion moon rises the flight of hawks above clouds and thought and fear outside the game writing the subscript taking the leap the lion's head opens sand and sould warm smiles and beauty And I can see where the moon is going now
Performance Notes
Note for complete work o All notes performed by the harp and percussion instruments should be allowed to ring freely and not stopped o Most of the dynamics are approximations, please use your best judgment for balance and audibility based on your performance space. o Vibraphone pedaling should be languid throughout the entire work Beauty On All Sides o M. 1- Tenor- you determined the length of the caesura before moving on. o M. 44- Wait until all sound has decayed before progressing to measure 45. o M. 26- Harp- There isn’t any specific pitch that I would like you to play. The effect that I would like is that of almost murmuring or mimicking of a whisper that you can hear but not make out what is being said. Starry Dynamo o Crotales- use wooden mallets and play everything lightly (loud enough to be heard but not over power the vocalist or the harpist). Lion Moon o Vocalist will drop paperclips on to a suspended cymbal where notated as well as play the suspended cymbal with a soft mallet. o The notation for the paperclips is an approximation of how fast to drop them and when there is what looks like cluster chords, drop several at a time.

o Hammered Triangle o Suspended Cymbal o Wood Block o Bass Drum Starry Dynamo o Crotales (wooden mallets) o Vibraphone (and bow) Lion Moon o 32” Timpani o 2 suspended cymbals (Vocalist will be dropping papers clips and playing on one and then one of the timpani) o Bass drum o Vibraphone
