RAW MATERIAL MARKET
AFRICAN SWINE FEVER NOVA NEWS: In this edition of NovaNews, you can read about the African Swine fever and how to deal with this. Furthermore, we are happy to attend exhibitions again and have already been on two this autumn. You can also read about more environmentally friendly substances, video marketing and an unfortunately turbulent raw material market.
African swine fever is a viral disease of pigs and wild boar that is usually deadly. There are neither vaccines nor cures. For this reason, it has serious socio-economic consequences in affected countries. Humans are not susceptible to the disease. Transmission and spread Healthy pigs and boar usually become infected by: • Contact with infected animals, including contact between free-ranging pigs and wild boar. • Ingestion of meat or meat products from infected animals – kitchen waste, swill feed, infected wild boar (including offal). • Contact with anything contaminated by the virus such as clothing, vehicles and other equipment. • Bites by infectious ticks. • Movement of infected animals, contaminated pork products and the illegal disposal of carcasses are the most significant means of spread of the disease. DISINFECTANT WITH PROVEN EFFICACY AGAINST AFRICAN SWINE FEVER! In connection with the approval procedure and the requirements of the European Biocides Regulation, Novadan’s product Oxidan Extra has undergone a large number of EN standard tests that ensure that consumers can trust that the product works. The product meets all the requirements for disinfection of surfaces in both stables and transport vehicles, and thus has a documented efficacy against both bacteria, fungi and viruses in the veterinary areas; including also against African Swine Fever. The virus tests were performed by accredited laboratories in Europe and were performed according to the standards EN14675 and EN17122. The test against African Swine Fever has just been completed, and detailed information on the possible uses will therefore follow in the next issue of NovaNews.

FIGAN EXHIBITION R
ecently, Novadan has participated in a Spanish fair for the first time. It was in week 38 at the Figan exhibition in Zaragoza, which primarily is a livestock fair with 827 exhibitors among which 37% are other nationalities than Spanish. We partificipated on a Danish shared stand organized by the Danish Trade Council in Spain. We were joined by Novadans Portuguese Veterinarian – Joâo Pireira and myself. Furthermore, Amilcar Rodriques Boto, Junior was part of our stand. He is from our Spanish cooperative in cattle - the company Agromundo from Asturias, which is in one of the Northwest regions of Spain. In Spain, Covid 19 restrictions are still in force - more than in Denmark. This might have had influece on the number of visitors compared ot a “normal” year but we believe - that our presence on the exhibition has paid off. We talked to end users / farmers and many potential business partners. Furthermore, it gave us the opportunity to get visitors and to visit existing Spanish partners that were exhibiting themselves. It was very clear that Novadan had an advantage with Spanish talking Joäo and Amilcar on the stand. A good and interesting experience that we are willing to repeat in two years time when everything hopefully is fully back to normal. by Hans Erik Nielsen Market Manager Agro
INTERNATIONAL FOOD CONTEST Hip Hip Horray - we have attended the International Food Contest exhibition in Denmark. Yes, I write Hip Hip Horray because it was fantastic to be back in Denmark’s large exhibition center in Herning (MCH). Covid-19 turned our lives upside down and and we have become accustomed to meetings being something that is held on a screen. But International Food Contest is absolutely not something to hold on a screen. Fortunately! Here, we enjoyed the personal meetings and conversations at our stand and in connections with the tastings which is the essential part of the hall. The exhibition was very well attended and with number that surpassed the number from before Covid-19. We meet and inspire each other across companies and competences as we often see that 3-4 people from a company go together. This way we have the broad professional conversation with our customers which often open doors for new possibilities in the cooperation and - at the same time - also leads to new topics. I always say that this is the exhibition where we maintain contacts and build our network. In Denmark, International Food Contest is part of the food industry’s foundation - which also reflects the culture of the industry.

A very turbulent raw material market continues!
by Jens Bramsen Sales Director
The raw material market continues to be very turbulent – which affects both the prices and supply of raw materials. High demand seems to push up the prices all over, and it also pushes up the prices of the chemistry raw materials to us. The market of raw materials has never been so volatile, as we have seen in the two last quarters, and it seems to continue here in Q4 of 2021. There is lot of stories behind the situation, and why we see these large pressures on all materials at the moment. One thing is for sure – no one can avoid getting price increases on their products – so it is equal for everyone in the Industry. To the right is the “Top 50” raw materials (only chemistry products) used in Novadan, and their price development over the years (from 2014 to Q3, 2021). The curve is updated at the end of September, and clearly shows how the entire raw material market has taken a significantly step up the two last quarters. Example of Price development on electric power (X-line: week no.):
How will it look for 2022?
No one can predict or come with valid prognoses on the raw material prices for 2022. Therefore, we are not able at present stage to inform how it will look for 2022. The situation is expected to last at least into Q2 of 2022 but can easily last longer, if there is not coming a balance between Supply and Demand. At the same time, we have to take into account, that higher energy prices in 2022 will have an effect on the raw material prices in 2022. Novadan will for sure, do our best to keep our customers updated and informed.
Other things do also increase in price!
Unfortunately, we do not only see the chemistry raw materials increase in price. The entire market is hit, and all other things are increasing as well. Here at Novadan, we have seen increasing prices on Freight, Pallets, Labels, Packaging, Foil, Cartons, Energy (Power, Gas), etc. The list is long and naturally also pushing our pricing on the products. Again, we are not the only one in the industry, which are getting those increases – so here it is also equal to everyone.
Delivery – order in good time!
We encourage our customers to order in good time. Especially now, where the supply of raw materials is more unstable than ever, we recommend our customers to place orders earlier than normal. With “good time” we mean, at least 20 working days before shipment is expected to go from Novadan. This will help us in the planning phase and to help secure raw materials for it. The last 2 quarters has tought us, that not all raw materials or packaging, is available on time – which it always was previously.
“We encourage all our customers to order in good time, as the raw material market is very tight at the moment”

Ro Dan 264 ---
TIME FOR CHANGE
---
Dear partner The time is mature to move a step further in the green direction. The reason for this is that our EDTA-free products has overperformed those with EDTA - on all measurable cleaning parameters. In the future it will be more difficult to get permission to use EDTA, which will be reflected worldwide by reducing the production of EDTA. This will also mean higher prices and shortages if we do not convert the substance. Already now, we can feel the shortage of EDTA and we strongly recommend to use EDTA free products. In order to be more specific, I believe that Ro Dan 144 advantageously can be replaced with Ro Dan 264. Ro Dan 264 is a very effective all round product for cleaning of membranes that are filtering all kinds of dairy products. Ro Dan 264 does not contain EDTA, nitrate and phosphate, so choosing this products will be with a concern for the environment. Ro Dan 264 can be used on all types of applications in the food industry, pharmaceutical, biotechnological and other associated industries where filtering is used in the process. Ro Dan 264 is cost effective, cleans from 450C and up till 700C. Ro Dan 264 has been tested with Novadan’s high application knowledge and has proven up to 25% better than the leading products in the market. - among others, this has been tested on high level of milk fat, vegetable oil and protein. Other examples can be conversion of CIP Alka 95 to Cip Alka 96 - by this conversion you will get the same good result but with an improved environmental profile. Yes - it is time to consider less environmental damaging cleaning. Please contact Novadan to hear about the possibilities to change to EDTA-free products and do not get surprised if Novadan contacts you in the coming future about the potential change.

Video marketing
Novadan uses it - do you? This is why: Video marketing is here to stay so don’t miss the train while your competitors jump on it!
W
e all want to attract attention from our target group and research shows that video content is the best method to do so. Better than advertising, blogs, articles, images etc. Today, this is the best marketing tool to generate Return-On-Investment. One of the reasons why video content is so important is that it is easier to remember compared to text and images because video affects emotions and our senses and it has huge digital potential for sharing and likes. It is effective on several devices - PC, mobiles and iPads and you will get a higher ranking on Google if videos are embedded on your website. At Novadan, we use videos for promotion, products (explaining and how to use), information, education etc. We have already elaborated many videos to be used by our distributors and ourselves in our mutual marketing efforts. To the right you can find a list of some of our videos which we encourage you to use: Send them to your customers, embed them on your website or use them at customer meetings. Just copy the link - and show it to the target group.
