ORDINARY WORLD

DH:

WHEN DID YOUR JOURNEY START?

AR: Ever since I’ve been a little girl, my life has always revolved

around art, design, fashion, etc. Back in high school, when I was deciding on my major for college, I thought I would be pursuing some kind of art or design degree from the start. I ended up studying Pre-Med first, for a little over 3 years, actually. I guess I didn’t listen to my heart, and let others convince me that I would have a more successful future with that degree.

DH: WHEN DID YOU START HAVING DOUBTS ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS MAJOR?

AR: Last year, during the middle of the Spring 2012 semester,

which was my Junior year, I started to realize that I would be graduating soon. This made me put my future into perspective; I decided that I wasn’t happy with what I was studying, and I knew I wasn’t passionate about any careers in the Medical field.

DH:

02

SO, WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM IN YOUR ‘ORDINARY WORLD’?

AR: I was not happy with my current life, or my future ‘plans’. I

was constantly getting sick, stressed, and was having regrets about the major that I chose. I needed to do something to change this. This made me regret my major choice even more.

DH: HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO FIX YOUR PROBLEM?

AR: I knew I still had a chance to change my major, hoping that

this was the key to getting my life back on track. My only dilemma was that I was almost done with my Pre-Med degree, and switching my major to Graphic Design would set me back another 4 years, until I could graduate.

ACCEPT OR REJECT THE CALL

DH:

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAD A PRETTY DIFFICULT DECISION TO MAKE. WHAT DID YOU END UP DOING AND WHY?

AR: Well, I figured if I reject the call, I would finish school miserably, with a degree that I want nothing to do with, and will probably have a miserable job and a miserable life. If I accept, I then I would be taking a risk for a hopefully better, happier, healthier, and more successful future. I could have many more career options, especially related to my passions and interests. I obviously accepted the call.

DH:

04

HAVE YOU HAD, OR DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE A MENTOR?

AR: I already have the approval and support of my friends and family, but I’m still hoping to meet a wise mentor, whom will be able to guide me throughout the rest of my journey. I hope that my mentor will be a knowledgeable and trustworthy person that I will meet either at school (like a teacher), during an internship, or possibly at an actual job.

CROSSING THE 1 ST THRESHOLD

DH: HOW DO YOU THINK

YOU’LL FEEL WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FIRST STEP OUT OF THE ‘ORDINARY WORLD’?

AR: With or without a mentor, this will be a life-changing transition, full of many opportunities and new experiences. I’m expecting to feel out of place at first, so having a mentor at this point would be very helpful during my transition. Having someone to ask questions, or be guided by, can make things a little easier and more comforting.

DH: HOW DO

YOU PLAN ON GETTING THROUGH ALL KINDS OF OBSTACLES AND TESTS DURING THIS STAGE OF YOUR JOURNEY?

AR: This is where I will have to trust my instincts; Especially, for jobs, meeting people, making decisions go, etc.

06

DH: WHAT KIND OF CHALLENGES DO YOU THINK YOU’LL HAVE TO FACE?

AR: Applying for jobs & internships, and getting accepted or rejected; Trying out different kinds of design related jobs and career paths, in order to figure out what it is that I want to do exactly. I will definitely be learning from my mistakes during this stage, and all of these challenges will help me grow into the successful career woman that I would like to be some day.

SUPREME ORDEAL (CRISIS)

DH:

OUT OF ALL OF THE CHALLENGES, WHICH DO YOU THINK WILL BE THE MOST DIFFICULT FOR YOU?

AR: I ’m still trying to figure out my ideal career, and what will make me happy for the rest of my life. So, I think finding that ‘perfect’ job that I’m looking for will definitely be the most difficult challenge for me.

DH:

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE ‘TREASURE’ THAT YOU’RE HOPING TO CLAIM DURING YOUR JOURNEY?

AR: As I mentioned before, I still don’t know what kind of exact career I want to have. At this point, I’m hoping to figure out what it is that I want to do with the rest of my life, which will grant me the happiness and success that I’ve been striving for. I imagine that this will be the moment when everything will start to make sense and fall into place.

REFUSAL OF RETURN

DH: SO ONCE YOU FIGURE OUT YOUR IDEAL CAREER,DOYOUTHINKTHATYOU’LLEVER GO BACK TO THE ‘ORDINARY WORLD’?

AR: Once I think that I’ve stumbled upon the ‘perfect’ job, I probably won’t want to start over and keep on searching. I’ve already experienced situations, where I thought I found the perfect job, but ended up realizing otherwise.

DH:

HOW DID YOU SEE YOUR FIRST STEP BACK INTO THE ORDINARY WORLD, AFTER CROSSING THE ‘RETURN THRESHOLD’?

AR:

I think that I’ll have lots of new knowledge, skills, and experience, from either one job that I stick with the longest, or from all of my experiences combined. I feel like I will be a new person after crossing the ‘return threshold’.

DH: H OW SO?

AR:

I will be able to use all of my knowledge, skills, and experience to try something new, and maybe take on another project, or even try a different career.

MASTER OF 2 WORLDS

DH: HOW DO

YOU THINK YOUR LIFE WILL BE LIKE WHEN YOU BECOME THE ‘MASTER OF 2 WORLDS’? I will be free to travel between the two worlds. I will have the opportunity to stick with what I love doing already, or I will be able to try something new, assuming I will have all the skills and experience to do so.

AR:

AR:

I can use my skills, experience, DH: HOW WILL YOU BRING and knowledge from my career

YOUR TREASURE, THAT and journey, in order to help YOU CLAIMED, BACK INTO THE ORDINARYWORLD? someone, and possibly become someone’s mentor. I hope to really inspire and guide others on their hero’s journeys.
