Personnel Changes 1. Group Leadership – no changes 2. Quorum Instructors – Mark Lines is being released in November. His replacement will be called and set apart in November. Curriculum for 2016: 1. Teachings of the Prophets – Howard W. Hunter 2. 1st Sunday Topics – HP leader’s choice 3. 4th Sunday Topics – General Conference Talks Family History In 2016 the focus was changed from “programs” to “individuals” where the primary focus is helping individuals in our ward get to the Temple (perhaps for the first time) and Family History work is fundamental to finding our ancestors and performing the necessary ordinance work in the Temple on their behalf. Family History work helps bring family generations closer together and inspire a desire to help them on this side of the veil. Service During 2016 there were 9 cannery assignments which our Ward filled and 1 farm assignment at the Coolidge farm.

Humanitarian Service Opportunities Our service activities throughout the year included the following: • Our Stake helped with an Emergency Supplies Drive for Gilbert Police and Fire in May. • Our Relief Society assembled memory boxes for Lanee’s Legacy in August. • Our Ward helped out with projects and donations for Lauren’s Institute in October. The following are some Relief Society Events from the year: October-December 2015 October included a fun craft night and adult dessert night. November’s activities included a Relief Society temple trip & the ward fall festival. December included our ward Christmas party complete with a live nativity, and a Relief Society breakfast and testimony meeting at Karen Tobler’s home, which was amazing and uplifting
January – February 2016 In January we kicked off with a “House of Order” activity to give us lots of organization ideas. In February there was a temple trip, lunch and visit activity at Francisco’s, and our Relief Society Recipe exchange and tasting night with lots of yummy food. March/April 2016 In March we had a Bunco night at Janet Grimsley’s home with lots of fun had by all! Also in March was the General Women’s Broadcast shown at the church for all girls 8-years-old and older. In April the stake hosted a Women’s Conference complete with great speakers, and delicious food prepared by many of the sisters in our ward. May 2016 In May we hosted Visiting Teaching Tune-Ups and loved having the chance to visit with all of the sisters who were able to participate. We have such great women in our ward! We also had a temple trip followed by lunch at Kneader’s.
June/July 2016 In June we had a Relief Society Progressive Dinner, which included stops at Janet Grimsley, Debbie Vogelsberg, and Camilla Porter’s home. What a great chance we had to visit with everyone & enjoy salads, pizza, and sundaes. July included our Ward 4th of July Breakfast. August 2016 We started the month off with a Back to School Breakfast at Paradise Bakery. Our Relief Society Meeting was a service activity helping to assemble memory boxes for an organization called Lanee’s Legacy. These boxes are given to local hospitals for families who are experiencing the loss of an infant.
September 2016 The Allen Ranch women’s volleyball team had fun together this year and capped off the season with a team party at Bahama Bucks. This year’s team: coach Sarah Curtis, Natalie Eralie, Lauren Shaw, Becca Theurer, Melissa Perkins, Dalee Wise, Nikkel Nielsen, Debbie Vogelsberg, Andrea Manning, Maureen Saurey, Tiffany Rees, and Kandyce Bullock. Also, the General Women’s Broadcast was again shown at the church for all girls and women ages 8 and up with a stake ice cream social following.
October 2016 Our Thursday Craft Night was a success beginning with a salsa demonstration by Cat & Geoff Jones, followed by everyone working on projects that included boxes, garland, and sugar scrubs, as well as helping to tie blankets for Helen’s Hope Chest foster care program.
2016 Allen Ranch Ward Elders Quorum In April, a new Presidency was called. Thank you to President Robinson and his counselors for their service. The new Presidency is: President: Rob Zollinger 1st Counselor: Michael Kent 2nd Counselor: John Webster Secretary: Austin Johnson The Elder’s Quorum assisted in many moves and campouts throughout the year. In the spring we supported the Aaronic Priesthood Commemora on Campout at the Huso property. This is always well a ended and a lot of fun. The awesome breakfast is the biggest draw. In the fall we have the annual Daddy/Daughter campout. Very similar to the campout in the spring with the boys, but much quieter :) This year was amazing. We heard elk bugle all night long; I mean all night!! The girls really enjoyed the breakfast and the archery range. Much service was given helping on moves, providing blessings, and se ng up and taking down thousands of chairs. Thank you Elders who serve in YM and Primary.

“Greenfield Stake Trek (July 13-16) was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. My favorite parts included the Women’s Pull, Rocky Ridge, the dances, and the testimony meeting. During the Women’s Pull, the girls in my family were so determined and we worked so well as a team, pulling the cart up the hill. I thought Rocky Ridge was fun but it was also hard—there were so many rocks and bumps in the way—just like trials and challenges that get in the way in our life. I will never for- get trek and the spirit it brought to me.” -Shaylee Gonzales

2016 Teacher’s Quorum History Red Rock Secret Mountain Hike - February 19-20 We planned a hike to an ancient Indian Ruin that required an 8 mile hike in to the mountains and then a 1 mile hike off the beaten path. We never found the ruins but we were so close… We learned some good life lessons though. Here is a picture of our campsite as well as Trevor Kauer getting the morning fire started.
Triathlon - April 2016 We trained several times for the triathlon and we had a great turnout. We spent the night before the triathlon camped in someone’s front lawn and the next morning jumped into freezing cold water. What a way to start a morninvg in Pima, AZ. Mountain Man Rendezvous - March 17-20 We had a great time at Mountain Man Rendezvous this year and we ended up winning the first place in the Region for the second year in a row. We pushed hard and accomplished a lot. We ended up winning a Musket Rifle as well! I think we all remember the great food that we had that week. Dutch Oven Chicken Wings and Dutch Oven Pizza! Yum. It made up for the cold nights. Nathan Schneider was fast in the sawing competition. A Winning Team!
Canoe Backpacking to Bear Canyon Lake - June 3-4 This was a great backpacking canoe trip. All of us remember carrying the canoes so far to the lake, we loaded up the canoes with our packs and it was dark out. We glided along in the water on the lake and made it to our campsite that night. Thanks Brother Bowman for letting us borrow the canoes. We lost one as we were driving up and we had to recover it. At least it wasn’t damaged and it didn’t cause any dam-
On Target Event - Sept 16-17 For dinner we ate well and had Shrimp Boil! We ate like kings. The next morning we made six radio contacts from the Mogollon Rim. Thanks Brother Wise for helping out with making the Radio Contacts. We used our signal mirrors to make contact with other peaks in the area. After finishing the On Target Event, we explored the Tonto Creek and found an amazing watering hole!
age. Caving at Peppersauce - August 12-13 We had a great time spelunking in the Peppersauce Caves. The highlight was swimming in the large cave pool. Some of the boys thought there may have been a creature lurking in the depths of the pool. Great time enjoying the muddy cave. Both Brother Grimsley and Brother Manning were too large to make it past the Tiny Rabbit Hole but the boys all slid through with less than an inch of clearance. Lots of fun!
2016 Deacon’s Quorum History
The theme for 2016 was “Press Forward” and that is exactly what the Deacons Quorum did. As has been the case in previous years, our goal was to create as many opportunities as possible for the Scouts to advance towards Eagle. From January through March our Deacon’s Quorum Presidency was Jacob Hill, Zaiah Gonzales and Gabe Eralie, with David Lawter as Secretary. From March to August our Deacon’s Quorum Presidency was Gabe Eralie, Daniel Moncur and Trevor Huss wit Andrew Anderson as secretary. We are proud of their willingness to serve and grateful for the way they honored their priesthood. In August and September changes were made in the advisors as well. Mike Eralie and Jason Moncur were released and David Rigby was called to be the new YM 2nd Counselor and Scoutmaster. Shortly thereafter Loren Wise was called to be an advisor joining Lynn Willden in that capacity. In January we focused on the photography merit badge. The boys did a great job putting together
projects that showcased what they learned. We were grateful to Jamie Johnson for all of his help. January was also our Eagle Court of Honor for 15 boys in our ward. It was an amazing event and it was great to see Jacob Hill from our quorum receive his Eagle rank. Great job to all the boys who were honored. In February we went on a mountain biking campout and learned that rattlesnakes aren’t afraid of bikes. No men, boys or snakes were harmed. We also had the Deacons basketball tournament. The boys came in third place despite being incredibly short-handed. The boys he did come played their best and did a great job. Thanks to Brother Altree for being our coach and to Josh Gonzales for helping us in practice. March and April was all about the Physical Fitness Merit Badge. Good job to the few who finished and passed off that merit badge. It’s not a hard one to do, but it takes a lot of attention to detail to get the tracking completed. Thanks to Lynn Willden for leading
the boys through it. And just for the record: Daniel Moncur is a faster runner than you are—he can fly! In May we planned and carried out the “May the Fourth” Star Wars themed activity for all the youth in the ward. It was a lot of fun. Then it was time for Camp Geronimo. The 15 Scouts who went to Camp Geronimo managed to complete more than 50 merit badges! Archery, rowing, wilderness survival, environmental science, geology, space exploration, soil and water were just some of the MBs the boys obtained. Great job. The boys worked hard and it paid off for them. We also learned that when Arizona decides to put on a rainstorm it doesn’t mess around. We learned the importance of keeping sleeping bags and clothes dry. Special thanks to Lynn Willden for spending all week at camp and to Russ Sult, Lindsay Oliekan, Loren Wise and Bishop Cobb for coming part of the time. We needed all of their help!
2016 Allen Ranch Primary Becca Theurer, President Camilla Porter, 1st Counselor Cristy McClure, 2nd Counselor Koriane Glazier, Secretary In conjunction with this year’s Primary theme, “I Know the Scriptures Are True,” we truly wanted the Primary children to grasp this belief for themselves. There was a focused effort with Senior Primary to encourage them to bring their scriptures with them to Primary each week AND use them to look up scriptures related to the topics that were being discussed in that Sunday’s lesson. As future missionaries and leaders in the Lord’s Church, the children really need to become familiar with the scriptures, and this was our goal for the year. In Junior Primary, in addition to being taught from the scriptures, there was a concerted effort to encourage Christ-like behavior. We strove to accomplish this by highlighting and recognizing a few Primary children each week who had provided service to others, just as our Savior would have served. Baptisms as of October 1st: Katie Manning, Sophia Perkins, Mason Johnson, Everett Rigby, Logan Wise Baptisms scheduled: Dalton Moncur
