Welcome Welcome to World Telemedia Amsterdam. Once again we are back in the wild and watery city – to many the spiritual home of World Telemedia – and it is interesting to reflect how the industry has matured over the years. In fact, it has changed even since the last time we were in Amsterdam back in 2011. These days telemedia is a mainstream business and has, thanks to increased interaction between consumers and media, advertising, retailers and the web, become one of the key elements in the new digital economy. This is clearly reflected in track 2 of the conference, where we see an emphasis on learning more about the latest developments in interactive services, as well as, how the next round of money-making opportunities will develop over the next 12 to 24 months. We also hear about the increasing links between telemedia, telecoms and commerce, with author and consultant Rob Thurner bringing his years of expertise to bear in our opening keynote and through his expert chairing throughout the rest of the day. While this track of the conference showcases how telemedia can be applied to the wider world, track 1 concentrates on how the actual telemedia market is developing and where the latest opportunities lie. International PRS is becoming a key theme and, with plans by the EC to abolish roaming charges across the EU, we may yet see some interesting traffic trading occurring between resellers, aggregators and operators. One of the hottest topics of this year’s event will be around payments. The groundswell of interest among retailers, operators, banks and the likes of Apple, Google, Amazon, PayPal etc - in developing effective mPayment Solutions brings operator billing back to the fore. No surprise then that day two of World Telemedia is devoted to our unique Payments Summit, which aims to look at the thirst for mobile payments across Europe with some very interesting research. This sets the scene for an in depth debate about the shape of third party payments and how telemedia billing is going to carve out a niche. We’ll then round things off by bringing you up to date with how Payforit is shaping up.
