P E R S O N A L S TAT E M E N T I am motivated architect and landscaper with multicultural career experience that studied and worked in Ukraine, Italy and France. In my Portfolio you can see that I am a team worker, several projects were made in collaboration with international architects, although I am able and independent to lead personal projects. Interaction between architecture and people, as well as cultural and historical heritage of the cities are the main fields of my interest. I believe using the context as a design inspiration, including interaction with people and Urban Agriculture are key factors for the future development of architecture and cities.

Educational project Politecnico di Milano, 2017

PARIS MAZE The project was done during my Master studies in Politecnico di Milano in Italy. It is an important work in my career because it represents the approach proposed by Polictecnico for designing modern architecture in historical, complex cityscape. Current work shows the analysis of urban tissue of Paris in big scale, reading historical traces around the sites of the design such as existing divisions of city blocks and voids in urban fabric near the Seine. Interpretation of that context is represented in proposed architecture that consists of an office for creative people in front of parc AndrĂŠ CitroĂŤn, library near Maison de la Radio and a path in-between that creates links between the new buildings, river and city. The urban solutions are proposed through strategical and tactical interventions, providing physical and mental connections between private and public, old and new.

7

8

CONTRIBUTION

I was involved in developing of an urban strategy, designing and detailing paths on the water and visual representation of the project. software: Rhinoceros + Vray, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects,Photoshop skills: model-making, rendering, video making you can check my video here collaboration: Anup Kumar Prasad, Sofia Carini

9

CO NT EXT Project sites are located near the river Seine, the first one is in front of Maison de la Radio and the second is near Parc Citroen. We can see that the location of the sites create a rhythm with the Eiffel tower.

B IG SCA LE Having analyzed the rhythms of the bridges and green areas close to the river, it is proposed to “turn the second site into a bridge that will respond to the urban fabric.

10

REA D ING It is proposed to link the sites reading the architecture of existing housing blocks in front of the Seine and voids in between, involving them in the design.

P RO P O SA L Having read and interpreted the existing urban tissue, the specific forms and rules for design proposal was found along with additional connections between water and the city.

Bachelor Thesis Kyiv National University of construction and Architecture, 2015

MEDICAL CENTER The project is a thesis of my Bachelor studies in Kyiv, Ukraine. After having been studying during 4 years soviet, functional, mostly contextless approach towards architecture in Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, this work gave me certain freedom to express my first thoughts of urbanism and landscape. The proposal is to create medical center consistent with social needs of townsmen of Kropyvnytsky, Ukraine. Poor health situation of inhabitants is caused by low quality of life and existing industries in the peripheries of the town. Intervention purpose is to create new kind of medical facility that brings educational function along with research laboratories in order to increase people’s interest in their health. The active form makes the building a horizontal dominant in a context, but at the same time it is inscribed in the city tissue.

33

34

CONTRIBUTION

The interest in parametric design and its software allowed creating curvilinear shape in plan of the project and active facade of the medical center. software: Rhinoceros + Grasshopper, 3ds Max+Vray, Photoshop skills: parametricism, rendering collaboration: personal work under the guidance of B. Zhezherin

35

REA D ING Orthogonal pattern of existing city fabric is the basis of proposed shape. However, having analyzed the current riverfront landscape, it is proposed to rethink the right angle near the water and create something more natural and inviting.

P ERP END ICU LA RS As the designed building has a complex functional program, the shape requires several divisions or blocks, such as the main block that creates continuity along the river and the attached structures. They are joined to the main one following perpendicular axises.

36

F INA L SH A P E Top view shows organic shape in-between orthogonal context. The attached blocks have sky-lights and atriums inside.

P LA N Complex functions of medical center is solved by creating flexible space for each block. The main curvilinear block is an entrance to the building that provides educational and recreational function as well and allows to held exhibitions and lectures. Diagnosis is carried out in such units as: the unit of functional diagnostics and endoscopy, MRI and CT unit, X-ray unit, the radionuclide diagnostic unit.

Work experience InLab architects, 2016

CARDBOARD WORKSHOP Current work represents my interest in experimental method of object design based on research and involving modern technologies. The workshop was held in Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture. The organizers were InLab architects, who invited me to be one of the tutors. The goal of the workshops was to create unique pavilions and furniture from sheets of cardboards giving new ideas for a future development of sustainable parametric architecture made of cheap recycling materials. Each pavilion consists of one or two units which are repeated creating diverse surfaces. All the modules are made of one flat piece of cardboard. In order to obtain a shape, the cardboard is bent along the guided lines that are previously cut by milling machine. The modules are connected by plastic clamps. 10 pavilions were assembled in scale 1:1 inside the university and were exhibited in several events in Kyiv.

43

44

CONTRIBUTION

The main challenge was to guide the students in their work, introducing them how to work with material and software to create unique shapes. software: Rhinoceros + Grasshopper skills: tutoring, parametricism, model-making collaboration: InLab architects

Educational project Politecnico di Milano, 2016

REGENERATION OF THE FARM The work was done during the Masters in Politecnico di Milano and it shows Italian approach towards preserving and enhancing cultural and landscape heritage with the help of agriculture. The strategic goal of the project is to bring life and activities to the historical farm in order to increase the number of local visitors, agritourists and introduce them traditional and modern techniques of farming, increasing the food standards. The work includes historical analysis of architecture and landscape of the farm, research of closed loop food production and developed strategy. The final proposal is to create milk and cheese industry on the farm, putting cheese-making processes in the historical and architecturally significant building of the farm with a courtyard, in this way enhancing it by bringing function. The architectural intervention is minimal but made in details.

51

52

CONTRIBUTION

I was responsible for creating strategy and program of the project, research of closed loop milk&cheese production and transformation of wastes to energy, calculating CO2 footprint. software: Photoshop skills: strategy development, research, eco-design collaboration: Ahmed Mahmoud, Carmine Attini, Li Xie

53

B IG SCA LE The farm is located around 20 km from Milan, close to Parco Agricolo Sud Milano. It is surrounded by historical towns such as Morimondo, Bubbiano, Rosate and other farms.

FA RM LIM IT S The limits of the farm include agriculture fields irrigated by small channels designed by Leionardo da Vinci and bigger channel that was used for transportation of agricultural products and bricks during the past.

54

PAST During the past the cultivation of the fields were used for different purposes. In the beginning the mains cultivations were mulberries to feed silkworms. After the brick kiln was build, farmers started to plant meadow, hay and corn. In the end of 18th century the farm started to be a part of Ospedale Maggiore in Milan. The goods produced in the farm were transported by the channel to the hospital.

P RESENT Today the fields are mostly used for corn and hay cultivations. The farm is used for cows breeding. The cows are located in new part; historical buildings are storages for hay and equipment.

55

STRATEGIC GOALS

Using recycled and reversible materials for new construction. Reusing the cow manure and the other waste to minimize the negative environmental impact.

MINIMIZING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

H AY

Dairy cow eats 14,6 t of hay per year. 4 t of hay requires 1 ha of space and 50 kg of diesel. Calculations: 14,6 /4=3,65 ha. 50*3,65 = 182,5 kg of diesel per year (for hay cultivations for 1 cow per year).

IRRIGATI ON WATE R

Irrigation water is used for cultivations, it is required approx. 5000 liters for 1 ha. As we have to cultivate 3,65 ha per year, 5000*3,65 = 18250 liters for 1 cow.

D R I N KI N G WAT E R

1 dairy cow needs 90 liters of water per day that means 32850 liters of water per year. The water will be supplied from the city.

64

M ILK ING

Cows are milked 3 times per day. 2 hours each time. 1 cow produce 30 liters of milk per day and 10,95 t per year. According to the database 1 t of milk requires approx. 50 kWt of energy. Calculations: 10,95*50=547,5 kWh

PROCESSES AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION

PA ST E UR I Z ATI ON

The process requires heating the milk until 60-700 degrees and than cooling. According to the database 1 t of milk requires approx. 20 kWt of energy.

P RO C E S S I N G

Calculations: 10,95*20=273,75 kWh

It’s different kinds of processes that are made to the milk before cheese making such as cream separation, heating etc. According to the database 1 t of milk requires approx. 1000 kWt of energy. Calculations: 10,95*1000=1095 kWh

BIOGA S

E L EC T R I C I T Y

According to database cooking 1 kg of manure we can receive 0,24 m3 of biogas. Calculations: 10767,5*0,24=2584,2m3

According to database we can receive approx. 1,8-2 kWh of electricity from 1m3 of biogs. Calculations: 2584,2*1,9=4909,98kWh

65

CH EESE M A K ING

Cheese production line makes different processes such as boiling, mixing, packing masses etc. Some processes require heating and cooling. Calculations: 10,95*300=3285 kWh

In the project we consider only cow wastes, however it is possible also to use leftovers of Gorgonzola cheese production and probably it could be even possible to get 0 energy consumption.

Creation of new kind of production that means the increasing of workers. The proposal is to have 2 permanent farmer family who lives in the farm ( 1 can be oriented in agriculture and another in dairy) and extra 2 employed workers to help with cows’ treatment.

Pasteurization, processing and cheese making are mostly automatized. However production line requires 5 permanent workers to control the equipment, temperatures , mix the masses and pack the production.

66

The laboratory requires 3-4 permanent workers: research scientist and research assistants.

FUNCTIONAL PROGRAM Reuse of existing cows’ stable allows us to create modern milking parlour for 18 cows. The calculations were made according to Dairy Herd database recommendations. The cows are milked 3 times per day. Each time takes 2 hours. Therefore, we can milk 80 cows per hour. Milking time is approx. 10 min that makes possible to have 4-5 turns, so there will be 16-20 cows at the parlour at the same time. It is possible to receive 4800 liters of milk per day. That requires to have milk tanks in order to store and cool it. The proposal is to have 10 rounded milk tanks with the diameter of 2m and volume of 1000 litters to have an ability to store the milk for 2 days. The rooms allows the extension of production.

Cheese is placed into a warm room with controlled humidity for about a week It’s important that salt in the cheese doesn’t suck humidity out of the air and bring moisture into the cheese. After that it is repositioned in cold storage for 2 month where the mold is growing. The dimensions of one piece of cheese is 30 cm in diameter and 13 cm hight.

The room requires the equipment to heat the milk until 60o in order to protect consumers against infection by pathogenic microorganisms. The room includes heating equipment (hot water supply through the pipes and heat the milk), intermediate storage for cooling pasteurized milk ( with cold watter supply) and room of milk packaging.

Two double rooms on the ground floor are designed to host 4 visitors if they want to stay for a night. The guests of the residence could be also invited lecturers, scientists, farmers and staff members on special occasions (festivals, educational exhibitions and lectures etc.) when there is a lot of work.

The room requires different kinds of multi-scale equipment (milk clarifications, devices for milk coagulation, cream separators etc.) to prepare the milk for cheese making. 3 milk tanks (1,5 m diameter) with capacity of 1000 liters each for intermediate storing and cooling are provided.

The house is now a residence for the only 1 family who remains on the farm. The proposal is to have 2 apartments (75 m2 each) for 2 farmer families ( 1 family can be responsible for agricultural field, another for cows’ treatment) and it’s also a possibility to have 2 rooms ( 30 m2 each) for 2 employed workers, who will help with milking cows.

Milk is heated in metal containers ( 2 m2); then Penicillium roqueforti and starter is added to the milk. Large metal paddles stir the mixture, and it travels from one container to another. Rennet is also added during this process, and curds begin to form. Then the curds are separated from the liquid and moved to a machine where they will be pressed together to create wheels of cheese.

Restaurant area is 100 m2 that allows to guest many visitors (50 people at the same time) during special events such as : educational excursions, food festivals, lectures. In summer time the dinning area can be extended outside and visitors can eat on the terrace. During the working week the staff of the farm eats there.

The market open to visitors allows to buy, try and enjoy the amount and diversity of production everyday. There is one permanent worker for the area as on working days there will be only a few visitors.

Manure is routed to the tanks, where it’s cooked, compressed and the gas collected. The biogas generated is stored in the roof of the tank and from there it is burned in the combined heat and power plant (CHP) to generate electricity.

2 lecture rooms designed for 50 visitors in historical building in order to share the knowledge of ancient recipes of cheese and new achievements related to dairy production researches made in labs. The speaker mostly are the scientists from the laboratories.

Competition project Independent work, 2018

RIVERFRONT LANDSCAPE The selected work is a competition project for Kropyvnutsky town, in Ukraine, where I was born and raised. The competition was organized by a private bottom-up initiative in order to make a decent project of riverfront development that will involve community in the design and implementation. The idea of competition was to propose alternative design solutions to the existing governmental project that was made with a poor quality and without any public involvement. My personal interest was to share my international experience of landscape projects in Ukrainian context and develop big and small scale strategy of bottom-up interventions that people can use to improve the situation around the river. The big scale strategy of working with the sections was developed along with small-scale proposed modules that can create different function for users. The proposed interventions are very gentle and low-cost that corresponds to the budget of the city.

Master Thesis Politecnico di Milano, 2018

REGENERATION OF A VILLAGE Current work is the conclusion of the studies in Politecnico di Milano, my master thesis developed with the help of the knowledge obtained in the university. The freedom to choose the topic gave me an opportunity to go deep in social and architectural problems of Kyiv, the Eastern European city of intervention, and try to solve them with the help of urban agriculture. The work includes profound research of urban agriculture of Kyiv in different scales, including social domain. Social survey was carried out to analyze the traditional food values of citizens. Based on the research, the intervention site was selected in the unique case of a village that survived the urban sprawl of Soviet Union and keeps fighting for its traditions against thoughtless modern construction, hiding in-between skyscrapers. The interviews with local actors were collected and based on the social involvement, several urban agriculture interventions were proposed.

CO U NT RY LEVEL Agriculture is one of the main fields in the economy of Ukraine due to its climate, fertile land and demographic reasons (the density of population in the rural areas in Ukraine is quite high). The main field in agriculture is the plant cultivation, especially technical and stern. About a half of the arable lands are used for crops cultivation. The leading role in the agriculture belongs to the grain production. The main Ukrainian grain crops are spring barley, winter wheat and corn. The main industrial or technical crops of Ukraine are sugar beet and sunflowers. Dairy farming is one more popular kind of industry in Ukraine.

REG IO N LEVEL Short food supply chain analysis was carried out in a regional scale in order to find out how local food comes to the city. Several farms, mostly dairy ones, were found in the region that produce local food and deliver it to the city, using online platforms or having their own shops in Kyiv. Some of the farms practice agro tourism.

84

M ET RO P O LITA N LEVEL More than one third of Kyiv Metropolitan area is occupied by agricultural activities, mainly on the South. 23,8% of the territory is located on the forested areas. There are natural meadows regions, which are suitable for pasture. Agriculture production of Kyiv oblast is mainly concentrated on the South of it, as the most fertile soils are located there. Nothern part belongs to Polissia natural and historical region (forested area). The most produced agricultural products are cereal crops, sunflower, sugar beet, potatoes, milk, eggs and meat. Dairy and poultry farming are receiving a lot of investments and getting more and more popular.

CIT Y LEVEL The short food supply chain analysis showed different kinds of typologies of urban agriculture in the city. The research about city markets, different forms of private gardening and bottom-up urban farming initiatives showed the desire of Kyiv citizens towards growing food in the city.

ADD SENSUAL VARIETY TO THE SPACE BETWEEN THE BUILDINGS: DIFFERENT PATTERNS, SMELLS, COLOURS

SOVIET ESTAT ES Within the limits of the city there are around 30 “sleeping neighborhoods. The period of Soviet residential construction lasted from 1950 till 1991. Mostly the buildings were for the workers of the industries, military services and people from the villages or suburbs whose private houses were demolished due to the construction of the sleeping districts got free apartments there.

M A P 193 7 OVERLA P Current analysis of rural traces was made to show different landscape conditions in the neighborhoods and relationship between massive Soviet constructions and historical rural landscape. The base of the drawing is the map of Kyiv and its surroundings from 1930s. The plan shows overlap of the sleeping neighborhoods over rural settlements. It is visible that most of the neighborhoods were constructed outside the city historical areas due to proximity to the industrial areas. The main aspect of design was infrastructure, the exiting landscape was almost not considered.

In the beginning of 16th Pozniaky village was created to produce food for Monasteries. In 1766 all the Left bank fields were given into a state ownership by the decree of the Russian Empire queen Catherine II. In 1860 the peasant got freedom and a right for their land. In 1870 the railroad was constructed in the direction of Kursk and Moscow and in the point of the intersection the industries started to grow. Darnytsia village started to expand due to the growth of workers and new settlement called New Darnytsia was built. In 1950 Pozniaky industrial area was created near the river. That leaded to the first intervention on the village, the road that links the new industry with Kyiv Kharkiv Street was constructed. In 1967 the factory Burevistnyk was built in Pozniaky industrial area. In 1969 construction of the first neighborhood of Pozniaky started. The micro district was for the workers of the factory. In 1989 the construction of Pozniaky residential estate starts. Synchronic analysis of Pozniaky neighborhood shows the most evident permanences from the past. First of all, it is strong presence of original vegetation in the remains of the village areas, especially near water surfaces. Zhandarka, Kachyne and Prirva lakes represent water heritage. Several streets of the village and settlement are still present. The present settlement in the village are from 60-80s, although there are completely modern houses as well.

PEOPLE’S PERCEPTION “The district transformed into concrete ghetto with skyscrapers and supermarkets. The village, cherries and frogs, that we used to enjoy with my family are buried under construction of the neighborhoods. The view from the window will disappear behind new buildings also.” Olena, 43 years old, apartment resident

“Of course, people from the remains of the village plant their gardens. Even residents of Kyiv city are trying. They have fruit trees in the yards between their skyscrapers, they take care of them as they can, chasing young vandals that thoughtlessly can cut of the branch of long age for couple of apricots.” Olexandr , 63 years old, apartment resident “I would like to make a statement that the remains of Pozniky village are beautiful and I would like it to be preserved! Unfortunately, they don’t have chances to survive because the mega polis monster wants to eat it… I have true love to the lakes and river, in my neighborhood on each lake I have favorite beaches, just couple of meters long where I can communicate alone, without witnesses, with water, air and planet in general. “ Olexandr , 63 years old, apartment resident There are many green spaces, but completely neglected, mostly thrown up by debris, overgrown with weeds - impenetrable, neglected thickets. People from the “city” are usually scared to go in that village, because there is no proper roads, lights, the private properties are also messy. Victoria, 42 years old,

“I would the remains of the village to be a pearl, a heritage, but not a shame of the city. I would like to change the mess to the neatness, well-being. The remnants of green areas make recreational areas where you could walk around and see something interesting (a flower, a plant, a butterfly, a bird), in lakes you can swim or even sit on the grass around them. I would like overgrown grass to be treated accurately, banks of the lakes to be cleaned, benches, trash bins, lights to be designed. I believe that this historical heritage must not be destroyed but preserved, cleaned and improved for the city development, for various leisure time-spending, for keeping the health of the people and esthetic’s development.” Victoria, 42 years old, active apartment resident, member of the Kachyne lake community

“I’m totally in for keeping the historical landscape. We bought the apartment here because there is green village nearby and lake. I remember, how in the night we listened to the singing of nightingales and frogs, how I was having a walk with my kids in-between the cherry trees of the village, how we went on holidays to sit there near the fire.” Olena, 43 years old, apartment resident

“If I had a possibility I would like to have my own garden, I’m used to the gardening since my childhood. I think that a tree garden would look nice in the city. Probably it is possible to plant something just for beauty. When I was living in Urlivska, I was passing by the alley of mulberry; there were a lot of berries. My kids and I were sometimes collecting them; it was very interesting to show some fruit on the tree in the city” Viktoria, 43 years old, apartment resident

“In the city administration they confirmed to add 10 thousands new residents in a small piece of land near the railroad bridge without sufficient infrastructure, working places, parks and educational and cultural centers. I am really close to the decision to move out of here, it is very sad to see this illegal, arbitrary mockery of nature and people.” Olena, 43 years old, apartment resident

Main strategical goal is to create new, non-governmental organization that will consist of representatives from each actor groups evaluated in previous analysis. The NGO is an analogue of Italia Nostra, Italian non-profit organization. It should be bottom-up cooperation of active people that would protect and enhance heritage, manage abandoned spaces and involve citizens of Kyiv in participatory activities. The objective of the NGO would be to provide environmental education to the citizens and add value the remained historical and natural landscape through series of projects.

The proposal is to create physical connections between the remains of the rural and natural heritage changing the section of unused green spaces, existing pedestrian ways as well as adding new passages. The goal is to plant fruit trees along the paths in order to reunite the heritage islands with the help of productive landscape and to give to each path specific identity. In addition, the concept provides transversal connections for improving the quality of green spaces in the neighborhoods. It is proposed to plant berry bushes and fruit trees along them. In order to make the landscape more sensual, the types of vegetation in the voids between buildings may vary in correspondence with context lines, creating different patterns.

The proposal is to create an educational garden with public access near the lonely house remained from the ex-village. The goal is to create orchards with food plants and flowers along with some urban furniture so people can stay and enjoy. Kids from the kindergarten are going to take care of the vegetation as a part of their daily activities. As it was showed in analysis the neighborhood doesn’t have enough social infrastructure, thus project provides extracurricular activities for kids and adults. It is proposed to plant cherry and apple trees to make the landscape diverse in different seasons. The choice of the bushes was made with the goal of protecting the site from the vandals. Dog rose and gooseberry bushes have spines and serve as natural barrier.

The intervention areas are the abandoned sites of the village, where the private housing and gardens took place in the past. Currently they represent an opportunity for private investors to keep erecting no sense multi-apartment buildings. These vacant spaces have already the background and essence of becoming organized green spaces, because of the existing biodiversity in the place and fruit trees that remained on the site from the past gardens.

The community garden plan represents a mechanism of getting this area of the city in a social interaction context, where the objective is to obtain services from its surroundings. Educational activities are provided to improve social relationship between neighbors (especially between people from high-rise apartment blocks and villager), raising public awareness and evidence the local environmental impact of production of food. In addition, interaction in an economy frame is giving the possibility of renting sites to apartment owners to have valuable personal gardens and create a feeling of the belonging to the land.

Selected site used to have agricultural function in the past and now it is surrounded by existing private farms. The proposal is to create a self-sustained farm in the triangular part of the village in order to get economical profit for supporting urban agriculture in the area. The goal is to create several divisions such as: berries, fruits, vegetables, herbs and poultry sectors. The residents of the village and several hired workers will take care of the orchards and sell goods. The intervention requires evolution of the site area with years. It starts from cleaning the territory and transforming it into public fruit and berry garden, after it evolves in community garden with public part and ends up as a profitable farm.

Letter of recommendation Anna Levadna

To whom it may concern, As a masters student with the Politecnico of Milano, Anna has collaborated with our firm for over 5 months. She has worked on a range of projects, in particular on the development of guest rooms and suites for a luxury hotel. Anna demonstrated the ability to work autonomously on her assigned tasks, and was curious and keen to learn. Her capabilities with CAD drawings and graphic programs reflect a high level of skill. With her international background, Anna brought an interesting outlook to her work, adding to the culture of our firm. She was punctual and professional and I highly recommend her work. Sincerely, Joanne Paul Architect
