INTRODUCTION / motivation Architecture Portolio | 2020 Interests: BIM / Revit, 3D Modelling, Hand Drawing
I am an Architect and Designer currently based in Hamburg, Germany. The design approach to the work I create is very much simplistic but also cinematically inspired. My passion for film and books is reflected in the need to create interesting architectural background than can enable people to experience more and better. In my projects I pay a lot of attention to the urban context of the location, respecting it’s history and cultural character. I believe that each project belongs to the public and should
represent some positive addition to the life of the neighbourhood (even if in some scenarios of residential architectare it may be only a visual influence). Nonetheless, in most cases I am a strong advisor for multifunctional and flexible buildings as their concept agrees more with my architectural approach. In the recent years I had an opportunity to gain experience in Polish, French and Dutch offices as well as study in Ireland which has given my a better
understanding of the various approaches to the architecture. I am always trying to incorporate all these experiences in my work. I pay a lot of attention to technical side of the project as a part of my interest in the BIM software such as Revit. Creating 3D visualisations is one of the most intfor me eresting parts of the design process as a moment when we can finally show a glimpse of the experience we are trying to offer to the users.

REVITALISATION / rehabilitation Dublin, Ireland residential buildings revitalisation with additional public space design
2017 / Academic Project University College Dublin Architectural design studio 2 with: Elie Marcel

Preston Street as a once prominent location, over the years was slowly losing its prestigious status and, due to the social poverty problem present in the neighbourhood, its a place mostly avoided by both Dublin residents and tourists. The aim of the project was to bring Preston Street back to the city. It’s abandonment and poor condition isolate it despite the fairly central location. We intend to bring back the integrity to the Street on both urban and residential level. In the face of housing crisis we’d like to divide the buildings into multiple apartments in a form of cohousing. Every 4 apartments have an access to a common space as a
place for the residents to socialize and create an integrated community. Apart from that some part of the roof is transformed into a patio and a terrace with a garden just as well as a city view. Garden in the back of the building is semi-private with a half accessible to the whole neighborhood. Proposed apartment are relatively small consisting of one bedroom, bathroom and combined living/ kitchen area. As a big part of the southern facade is deprived of the openings as the staircases are located adjacent to it, we decided to bring more light by adding large glass surfaces in the apartments on both sides. Part of the demolished building will be transformed
into a restaurant with some additions on the first and second floor that mark the entrance to the garden. No significant changes are made to the front facade except for returning to the original form of the windows.

The crucial part of the project is creating common spaces where all the residents would be able to form an integrated community. It will be possible by spending time together during everyday activities that are usually done in the solitude of ones apartment (eg. reading, learning, eating together).
09
Regarding the visual part of the project, the aim was to incorporate a number of materials and architectural solutions both characteristic for the city of Dublin (red brick)as well as modern solutions representing today’s needs (green elements, high quality isolation).

On urban level it is necessairy to bring more life to the street. To provide that, we are trying to create a connection between Preston Street and Connolly station in a form of a terrace that gives an access to both newly designed restaurant and park by the station. Improving the surroundings by

an addition of plants and urban architecture such as stairs should increase the attractiveness of the street and therefore bring more visitors or potencial residents. Renovation of an old and abandonned street, in the heart of the neighbourhood, should influence a faster development
and revitalisation process of the whole area giving it a chance to regain its former high status. To avoid gentrification, apartments should be sold to residents with varied incomes as inpired by the Dutch model of new housing developments.

The presented project of sports centre is located in the outskirts area of Dronten. Dronten is now a place of dynamic urban changes including new developments as well as extensive revitalisations. The idea of the project was to create building divisions based on each space’s purpose and adjust the design accordingly. Each box represents a separate sport’s function and building is divided into multiple zones. Building appearing chaotic at the first sight can be easily understood when one pays attention to its functional solutions. Multiple zones of the building do not interfere with each other while being easily reached from
the common open central area serving as an atrium. The sports centre is surrounded by green spaces and with its organic form, neutral colors and mix of volumes is supposed to reflect the diversity of nature itself. Due to the seemigly high weight of the cuboid forms, the design is ligtened thenks to the pole construction on the ground level, lifting the entrance as well as the whole building making it appear more open and gives the design some space to breathe. Lack of green roof is compensated by multiple spaces of vertical greenery around the building enhancing the attractiveness of its outdoor terraces.

The area of the main entrance contains a centrally located staircase with transparent structure that is suppose to enhance the feeling of lightness of the building. The central hall allows the access to all the multifunctional sports premises as well as changing rooms, bathrooms and cafeteria. It adds
17
the social aspect to the primarly sports centres purpose of the building allowing the users to interact with each other outside of their trainings or classess. The hall area is well lit thanks to the transparent staircase as well as rooftop openings letting the aditional natural light to the building throughout the day.

Social aspect of this primarly sports centred building is equally important for its users allowing them to interact with each other outside of their trainings or classess creating a sense of community.
The exterior building materials consist mostly of metals in the form of perforated sandwitch panels, metal profiles creating divisions on the walls and metal grid adding some variety to the walls texture. Underneath are shown some possible wall
finishing solutions using different colors of profiles and grid. In order to differenciate the elevations, on each of the cuboids various shades of grey/ beige/white would be aplied adding another variation to it miltidimensional surface.

2016 | Architectural Design Studio | LEVELS OF ACCESS / OFFICES AND PLAZA Medium-scale office buildings located in one of the central neighbourhoods in Gdansk, Poland. Surrounding architecture serves mainly residential purposes with the exceptions of small shops and services as well as few restaurants. In a close proximity we can find a popular shopping centre which at the moment
is a commercial and cultural heart of the neighbourhood. The ensemble was designed as two connected buildings with below-theground-level square used by the local community and emplyees. Both buildings are meant to meet the modern standards of office environement providong the most functional open-
space offices. The high percentage of glass surfaces gives an impression of lightness and openness. The underground square between two office buildings creates modern public space with cafes, restaurant, open-air cinema. It allows both people working in the newly designed offices or neighbourhood as
well as those visiting the area to spend time in the square. The mentioned space despite its central location thanks to the beneath-the-street level lets the visitors to take a break from the busyness of the city and gives an occasion to relax without going to the outskirts of town.

Adjacent to the project there is a half empty plot belonging to the fire station and currentlu used as a parking. As an attractive location it was important to include it in the project. To not interfere with its current use a small adition in a form of a cafe/bar with a sharp edge can be an architecturally interesting addition
to the street corner as well as a desirable function in this area based on the neigbouring buildings. The construction of the bar is supported by the wall enclosing the fire station property from the street and serves as its natural extension. All three buildings (offices and bar) and newly designed square bring some novelty to the district.

Presented project of the main headquarters of Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza is located in the city centre of Gdansk, near the immensely important historical zone of shipyard. Newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza played important role during protests against communist regime in Gdansk Shipyard. The headquarters would be placed next to the European Solidarity Center which serves as a landmark in the neighbourhood. The purpose of the project is to give a shape and closure to the square in the shipyard where the major historical events took place. The concept of the building includes

glass foyer oriented in the direction of The Monument of the Fallen Shipyard Workers 1970. On higher levels only footbridges connect two sides of the building to make the space of the foyer as open as possible. Concrete elevations with regular glass surfaces create industrial character of architecture. Geometrical minimalistic floor plan gives an opportunity to create very functional open-space offices.

The area of Gdansk Shipyard is undergoing an intense development process. Offices and residential buildings appear in the area but it is important not to forget its primary historical importance. The aim of this project is to higlight the location where the major events took place. The concrete shell serves as a cover to the glass surfaces making the structure of the building appear light and open despite its simple and cuboid shape.

The presented project of a dormitory on Tuwima Street is set to sitisfy the basic needs of it’s users while simultanously meeting the modern aesthetics standards. The building in it’s form is supposed to constitute an integral part with the surroundings and introduce a bit
of diversity. One of the main intentions is to implement many common spaces making the integration process of it’s users much easier. Because of peculiar requirements concerning building limit, the block consists of recurrent modules with usage of reinforced concerete.
The idea of the project was to present ergonomic solutions mixed with eclectic design. Despite the small size the apartment is filled with multi-functional spaces and is divided for dining, living and office area.

Matejki Street where the student housing would be placed is located in a close proximity from the Gdansk University of Technology campus. Due to the current shortage of student housing and questionalble quality of living in the existing ones, it is the aim of the project to create a place of living suitable for a student lifestyle and allowing
its residents to fulfill all the primary needs of a student lifestyle aka studing, resting and socializing - all of it possible within one multifunctonally designed space. The ground floor of the building would serve as a common space with the library area, cafeteria, common rooms and hall as well as some administrative rooms. Upper floors would
consist mostly of the licing spaces with addition of some common spaces allowing people to spend time together, prepare the meals and simply avoid the solitude of ones own rooms. The offer would consist of both single and shared flats depending of the preferences. Green housed on the roof create and additional variety of functions.

The subject of study is the Dublin dockyard, in particular the area of the former Boland’s Mill factory and its preserved buildings located at the Grand Canal Dock, which, according to the project, will be revitalized and transformed in order to meet the current functional requirements. Due to the specific character of the Dublin Docklands and its considerable distance from the central part of the city, special attention should be payed to the urban context of the site and the issue of properly planned public space, the lack of which is one of the main problems in this part of the city.

The subject of the study is a plot of land covering the former Boland’s Mill factory and accompanying historic buildings. The existing buildings on the
plot underwent significant changes over the years and only three historic buildings have been preserved to date. Established in the seventies, silos and additional buildings
were demolished in 2017. Boland’s Mill is located in the rapidly growing area of docks in Dublin, referred to as The Dublin Docklands, and covers an area of 520 hectares of
both the north and south sides of the Liffey River, which is a central element of the development of the entire urban agglomeration.

The designed building is supposed to meet various functional requirements as well as introduce diversity in a district in which, apart from residential buildings, is dominated by office buildings
and headquarters of international corporations. The proposed introduction of live-work spaces in conjunction with recreational and gastronomic functions as well as public space available to
both residents and visitors is set to provide a functionally diverse development of a district with a completely different character than the historical centre of the city.

The analyzed plot is in the vicinity of nineteenth-century historical buildings currently occupied by such corporations as Google or Airbnb. Its distance from the current center of the area created by the newly built theater and the location on the opposite side of the canal reduces the
accessibility of this area, however, due to the rapid development of the district, this situation is slowly changing, which is due to the fairly good communication location relative to the Grand Canal Dock Station of the Dart railway heavy traffic towards the dock.

Revitalization of the area includes existing buildings that previously served as storage facilities. These buildings require numerous modifications to adapt them to the new functions tailored
to the requirements of the district. The two-storey building located at the corner will have a commercial function due to its location on the main pedestrian route. The two-story building at

Hand sketches are a very important part of the design process for me as well as a form of entartainment in my free time. I try to take simple sketches at the beginning of the projects and then
move on to more complex drawings as the design progresses. I believe that it is the easiest way to show the character of ones work and explain the atmosphere we are trying to create
which is sometimes impossible to do with more complex 2D computer drawings. It also shows in a simple way the process of particular design and can be helpful in its further stages.
