My work starts with collected fragments, bits and pieces that have personal meaning to me. Often I assembled and reassembled pieces until the artist in me is satisfied. Fused within the pieces are fragmented ideas and memories sometimes delivered or triggered by my closest desert messengers. To many artists, the creation of art addresses a deep need to depict an image of hope. Creating art allows me to enter a place where creativity mixes with contemplative thoughts and memories.
Creating art is not entertainment, to me, it’s a way to depict the story of my life. Hope, redemption, renewal, and restoration are themes within my work. Creating art is my portal where I can imagine and create work beyond the present moment. The studio becomes my own special place to listen, to seek and confront‌to let go and abandon what debases beauty. LarryJOrtega.com
