Creative Ministries Presents

The Journey, Cross and Crucifixion St. Boniface Martyr Church Wednesday, March 8 8pm

A live dramatic presentation of the Stations of the Cross. Join us as we experience the trial of Jesus, His journey through the streets of Jerusalem and His final moments on the cross. Free will donation. Journey back through time. Walk with Christ and become one with Him and the people who walked with Him. For many who have shared the Journey it is almost as if it were happening now for the first time. The music, narration and dialogue all add to the power of this prayerful meditation. To be part of The Journey, Cross, and Crucifixion is to experience the devastation of Mary, the frustration of Simon, the loneliness and desolation of John, Pilate’s struggle between justice and expediency and the excruciating pain and degradation Jesus suffered on the way to Calvary and His ultimate death on the Cross. This powerful, prayerful Lenten experience brings the Passion story to life.

! There will be a Thank You Cocktail Party for all St. Boniface Volunteers on Sunday, March 19, from 4 pm - 8 pm at the American Legion Hall in Glen Head. Anyone who volunteers for ministries or other parish functions and events is invited.

St. Vincent de Paul Society Lent is a call to “give alms for the poor.” Wherever you live in the parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell. Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor. When you give the furniture, household items and clothing you no longer use to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, you give hope to your neighbors who have nothing. To give thanks for all that God has given to you, have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? Call the parish center at 676-0676 for details.

Mite Boxes for Religious Education

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of our parish will be distributing Lenten Mite boxes to our Religious Education students. Many of our neighbors need our support to lighten their burdens. We encourage you to help your children to understand the concept of almsgiving by being actively involved in helping the poor in our community. This year, instead of simply giving them money to put in the box, you may want to let them earn that money. Please consider posting a chart on your refrigerator listing amounts they will be "paid" if they do certain household chores. They might earn a nickel for emptying the dishwasher, or a dime if they do so before they are asked to. You may want to suggest that they give up their snack money once a week to help the poor. We are grateful for your continued support.

Handbell Choir Our parish Handbell Choir is looking for new members. If you are interested, please speak to our Music Director, Jeff Schneider, after mass or you may email him at

stbonmusic@gmail.com. Stations of the Cross

Pray the Stations of the Cross every Friday night during Lent at 7:30pm in St. Boniface Martyr Church.

Religious Ed Question of the Week What do you plan to do during Lent this year as a way of showing you want to grow closer to Jesus?

Religious Education News: The Random Acts of Kindness project has begun! Bring your acts of kindness or witness of kind acts to Religious Education and post them on the “Heart of Kindness.”The Parish is hosting the presentation of the “Journey, Cross and Crucifixion” on Wednesday, March 8th at 8 PM in the Church.

The St. Boniface Martyr Youth Group will be participating in their 7th annual Midnight Run on April 1st in NYC. Midnight Run is an organization established to connect youth groups to the homeless of New York. Our Youth Group will be collecting new and gently used clothing, toiletries and food from the parishes and delivering the supplies in person to those in need. This type of profound experience is not only an opportunity for the youth, but for the parish as a whole to come together and be hands of Christ to those most in need. If you wish to donate new or gently used clothing there will be a clothesline and baskets in the back of the church for any items until March 26th. Your donations and prayers are greatly appreciated as we journey together through this awesome experience!

Glen Cove St Patrick’s Day Parade and After Party SUNDAY, MARCH 19TH 2pm – 6pm St. Patrick’s Parish Hall

Use Your IRA for Your Gift Now and/or for Your Estate Gift! If you would like to make a gift now using your Ira and if: 1. You are at least 70 1/2 years old on the date you make your gift 2. Your IRA is a traditional or Roth 3. You don’t exceed your personal maximum of $100,000 per year in qualified charitable distributions You will not have to report your distribution as income. It will be free of federal and New York State income tax, and it will count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD). The best way for you to start is with your IRA custodian. Tell them you want to make a "qualified charitable distribution". In most cases you will only have to fill out a simple form. VERY IMPORTANT!! Your gift must go directly from your IRA to the Parish. If you receive the money first then you’ll be taxed on it like any other distribution.

If you would like to make an Estate gift: 1. You can make your Parish a beneficiary of your IRA and your loved ones will not have to pay income tax on their proceeds. Example: Mrs. O’Brien, age 80, must take a required minimum distribution of $25,000 this year from her IRA. She wants to use the funds to make her contribution to her Parish Capital Campaign. She instructs her IRA Custodian to transfer these funds directly to the Parish. Mr. O’Brien escapes both federal and state tax. Mrs. O’Brien also decides to make her Parish the beneficiary of her IRA in her estate plan and leave other assets to her loved ones. She chooses this gift strategy because her loved ones would have to pay income tax on her IRA proceeds. "Lent 2017 is a time for us to pray for dramatic missionary growth in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Part of that dramatic missionary growth is stimulated by our willingness to invite our inactive Catholic friends back to Mass." Read Bishop Barres' Lenten Message here.

Fasting and Abstinence During Lent 

All Catholics who have reached their 14th year are bound to abstain entirely from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. All Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are also bound to observe the law of fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This means limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Two other light meals, which together do not equal a full meal, may be taken during the day.

SAINT PATRICK’S DAY – FRIDAY, MARCH 17 Bishop Barres has given a dispensation from the obligation of abstaining from meat to all Catholics in the Diocese of Rockville Centre on the feast of Saint Patrick. The obligation to abstain from meat can be fulfilled on another date or Catholics can adopt another form of penance of the individual’s choosing.

Don't miss out on special Lenten events, upcoming trips, reunions and more. Check out the calendar of events on our website.
