Killa Mitchell-Atencio's story won her the top prize in our Mi'gmaq Writers Award in 2013. Killa says "this story is about a personal struggle of identity that I have experienced, a common
challenge for today’s youth. My intent in sharing it is to encourage confidence, positive self-regard and pride in our identity as Mi’gmaw people. I dedicate this story to my ancestors, our elders and the new generations of leaders to
come."
