Foreword

FOREWORD by Mike Elkerton MBE. CEO Access & Evac-U-8 Ltd. and Regional Chair of the Access Association North West Region “So, now we are in the process of leaving the EU, what does the future hold for disabled people? I personally think that little will change with regards to access & egress across the world. With the increase threat of global terrorism, disabled people, as we all know will have to be more aware of their surroundings and should request information from Building Managers and service providers , especially with regards to wayfinding and evacuation plans. The development of our direction and evacuation system ‘DirectMii’ and ‘Evacu8me’ has been advancing rapidly over the last three years and now this system has been embraced worldwide. I hope you will enjoy this new ‘Company Brochure’ and overview, which will give you more information about the system and how it works”.

Anthony Rice Director

For many years I have been advocating accessible environments and equality of disabled people in accessing building and services. In my experience this is only half the story as just as important and maybe even more is the ability to exit a building during an emergency. During my research and in-depth consultations with disabled people, support organisations and businesses I came across a wide range of opinions and possible solutions. It became clear that this was a problem and this had been long buried under the carpet as it is too difficult to sort out. Having evacuation plans for employees was fairly straight forward, the main issue is having evacuation plans for visitors and the public in general. How are we supposed to know what disability a person has, and if it’s hidden can we ask everyone do they have a disability and do they need a bespoke plan. Two questions came up constantly; what disabilities do I have an evacuation plan for? and from disabled people ‘does anyone know am here? These two little questions need big answers, so the long road to understand the questions lead to the formation of the app.

There are only three things to consider for the evacuation of disabled people, it does not matter what disability a person has or is called.

CONTENTS

One, the ability to physically move. two, ability to receive or give communications, and three, understanding of being in a life threatening situation, information of evacuation procedure or following some floor plan instructions. Once you address these issues then you can move forward with a certainty that disabled people have been considered for emergency evacuations. And finally does anyone know am here? Well use a phone app to sign people in and out of a building would be a great start. Notifications sent out to people who have checked-in to evacuate would also be good, now you can see how we got to this point. This booklet explains in more depth the concept around our system, where it can be used and the benefits for everyone to use. Anthony Rice

Critical Crowd Messaging & Emergency Services When you hear the term ‘Critical Communications’, for many people it is the Emergency Services who deal with life or death situations on a regular basis that comes to mind. But at its core critical communications can be an important consideration for any organisation and in many cases the responsibility will pass to emergency services and having an ability to issue warning and alerts to the public is essential.

Timely Warnings Must Reach the Public Attending an Event Because the nature of terrorist threats often is not limited to a single location, timely warnings must be issued in a manner likely to reach as many people as possible attending the event. Emergencies, however, may be far more localized, therefore notifications may also be tailored exclusively to the segment of the area at risk.

Some of the channels used for issuing both warnings and notifications will likely be shared — such as text messaging, EEmergency services such as mail and phone systems — while other hospitals, fire & rescue services and channels are more likely to be used by the police all use critical communications because they require one or the other. A fire alarm would make an effective notification in case of a fire or the certainty of delivery, and where lives are at risk certainty of delivery is environmental threat requiring evacuation everything - with no message delivery but might not be as effective for conventional terrorist activity. there is no action to save a life. Redundancy in the system is a key aspect that elevates normal communications into critical communications, but this takes resources both financial and practically - which can appear to be a stumbling block for many organisations. However, looking at the wider picture, one needs to take into account the balance between the cost of implementing the system and the potential cost of not having it in place. There is nothing that says critical messaging need necessarily be a separate system only to be used for life-saving activity. For one thing having a dedicated system for critical communications requires considerable resilience to be introduced so that should a failure occur there is a hot failover to a backup system and an instant alarm to call maintenance staff to rectify the issue. This can be very expensive, but for emergency systems this is a price that must be paid to ensure we all have the emergency systems we may one day need to rely on ourselves

Emergency Services

Timing of Emergency Alerts Can Vary Emergency notifications are triggered as soon as there is confirmation of a dangerous situation or emergency. In the case of an active shooter, this may be as soon as police identify that there are shooting victims with an unknown suspect at-large. This may occur in minutes. In the case of an outbreak of a communicable disease, this may not happen until medical test results come back after a day. Timely warnings are triggered as soon as the pertinent information is available.

Warning systems Must be Adaptable to Changing Technology As technology continues to evolve and afford organisations newer, faster channels to disseminate information, the expectations of the public as well as emergency service officials are likely to continue to evolve along with it. In the early 1990’s — before the widespread adoption of E-mail and well before cell phone text messaging — flyers were widely accepted for issuing timely warnings. Communities now expect E-mails and text messaging at a minimum. The DirectMii technology will push the disclosures even further

Ultimately both the emergency notification and timely warning provisions are about making sure the public have truly prompt information about a full range of threats to their safety so they can make informed decisions about protecting themselves

These are the Key Consideration; DirectMii System is the Total Solution Answer; Ability to reach the hearing impaired Good return on investment if used regularly for other uses like way-finding or day to day messaging Can be portable or mobile Placement can be inside buildings and public areas as well as outside No sign-up is required to receive messages, app can be set for auto check-in Intrusive with proper placement, attention grabbing Messages can be bright and bold to capture viewers or have movement (flashing icon) or sound to draw more attention. (Can be set in phone setting for notifications) Easy integration with other solutions so one message can be sent across multiple mediums for greater impact (loudspeakers, phone, text-message, etc) Messages reach recipients quickly Good for traffic control, crowd control and alerts during major events They can be used for routine communications so that the public is trained to expect they will get useful information from them

New Disability Public Relation Services

For over twenty years there has been a push to get disabled people access in to buildings and equality in their use; however, there has been a shadow over the evacuation of disabled people during an emergency.

Public relations is the act of connecting and communicating through all the various relationships that a business or organisation may have formed with the public. These various public's include employees, customers, industry, government entities, investors, charities, suppliers and the media. For instance, if you’re a business and you want inform, influence even persuade disabled people- you have been caught in the act of public relations.

Since 9/11 this has been highlighted with not just consideration during a fire but what to do in an event of a bomb/ terrorist incident. No longer can the solution be to take a disabled person to a refuge area and wait for rescue. The Law is clear, building owners/managers have a duty and responsibility to evacuate ALL People from their building. Retail and Leisure: Building A Mobile Presence: InformMii Retailers should consider developing both a mobile website and a mobile app. The market is there for both, and your customer base will be using both. While the majority of your customers will search, visit and shop using mobile web, your core customer base who repeatedly purchase are demanding loyalty integration, richer shopping experiences and new ways to engage with your brand. They’re offering real estate on their phones – are you going to take it? The big headline Last year was that mobile internet usage surpassed desktop internet usage. Now, there’s more to add to the story: not only has the number of mobile-only internet users overtaken desktoponly, but app usage has also surpassed desktop usage.

. asked for this and we have delivered it! You

Our app is Your app: InformMii Ever thought of having an app for your company, origination or event but where put off by the cost or complexity. Sure there are internet based programs to create your own app, but do you have the know how or even the time and would this just lead to app overload on people’s phones. Then look at our system, the app is already created and download by thousands of people. It is single app that can be used for internal navigation and emergency notices. One app that will lead the way for retail and the leisure industry. Soon to become a standard app that is a must for all people around the world. We do the development work and keep the system full updated and available to all users. A job you don’t have to do, because we have allready done this for you

For retailers, that’s not the only thing of interest. Statistics show that multi-platform use in retail continues to grow significantly more. all retailers – not just the big players – are now re-thinking their mobile strategies. The major question that retailers have been grappling with is whether a mobile website or a mobile app is the right way to go

Mobile App Pros: Mobile apps are effectively transforming retail, maybe more so than any other industry. In 2014 alone, usage on Shopping apps increased by 174% – the highest of any app category. Furthermore, a renowned retail survey found that 55% of shoppers will use a retailer’s app either for or while shopping. Clearly, the market for retail mobile apps is thriving, and apps offer a number of benefits that other channels can’t. If there’s a single truth to shopping, it’s that the customer experience matters.

A mobile app is the ultimate way to improve the customer experience, acting as an extension of a retailer’s brand and offering features that aren’t possible anywhere else

Mobile apps offer unparalleled analytics capabilities, which allow retailers to better understand their customers and make data-driven business decisions that will Loyalty Integration: improve the shopping experience and drive sales, Mobile apps can facilitate both in-store and out-ofboth mobile payments and rewards programs on a single store. channel. Retailers are able to have their stores right on their customers’ smartphones and tablets. This presents a huge opportunity for targeted marketing and a level of customer engagement that can’t be matched on any other channel. Mobile optimized sites are now ranked higher in search engine results pages than sites that are not optimized for mobile. Retailers with mobile-friendly sites are more likely to rank better, meaning greater brand visibility, higher website traffic, and consequently more sales.

The NFPA Emergency Evacuation Planning

evacuation is that of ensuring that the means of escape in case of fire and associated fire safety measures provided for all people who may be in a building are both adequate and reasonable, taking into account the circumstances of each particular case.

Guide for People with Disabilities was developed in response to the emphasis that has been placed on the need to properly address the emergency procedure needs of the disability community.

Under current fire safety legislation it is the

responsibility of the person(s) having responsibility for the building to provide a fire safety risk assessment that includes an emergency evacuation plan for all people likely to be in the premises, including disabled people, and how that plan will be implemented.

Such an evacuation plan should not rely upon the intervention of the Fire and Rescue Service to make it work. In the case of multi-occupancy buildings, responsibility may rest with a number of persons for each occupying organisation and with the owners of the building. It is important that they co-operate and co-ordinate evacuation plans with each other.

This could present a particular problem in multioccupancy buildings when the different escape plans and strategies need to be co-ordinated from a central point.

Tourism 4 All, Access all Areas and Accessible Tourism are campaigns to promote the benefits to business to consider disabled people and cater to their needs to increase not only business but diversity and inclusivity. The Purple pound (see article in the magazine) and the grey pound have been marketed, yet the take up and ROI for business has yet to be realised. This should be seen as a long term investment and measured over an extended period. In this fast moving times travel and tourism has grown and developed in ways our forefather could never imagined. Yet there still barriers to a large part of society, this is not necessary financial but an infrastructure of the environment and services to people. With cheap air travel, greater and faster train routes and destination and the freedom of movement, truly we should be living in a time of 'The world being our oyster' but this is not the case for all. Yes things are changing and we welcome this, but attitude still seems to be the biggest barrier, yet this is the simplest, easiest and cheapest way to address access for all , freedom to travel and equality of human pursuits.

Beacons the future! Beacons – like them or hate them, you can’t ignore them! With brands like The American giant 'Macy’s' and the likes deploying them on a large scale, beacons can no longer be ignored. While there has been a surfeit of, a lot of brands still prefer to take a “wait and watch” approach and are taking tiny steps towards adopting this technology. Though, most brands are using beacons to send targeted ads to customers, beacons are actually capable of much more than that. These tiny devices have the potential to deliver rich digital context on top of the real world and it goes much beyond collecting big data and advertising aggressively. By the end of 2014, there will be 30,000 active beacons in the U.S. With an increasing number of shoppers using their smartphones in-store to compare and get the best deal, retailers are turning to beacons to blend and create an experience that delights customers. Beacons can help businesses target customers with contextually relevant notifications based on their location, behaviour, buying habits and much more. Our system soon* will be able to be used for child-tracking with an ibeacon wristband that will warn parents if their kids strayed too far away. With the DirectMii app a parent could program the distance they chose as a geo-fence, and when their child exceeded the distance limit, the app will issued an alert right to the parent’s smartphone. Data is king; Being creative in 'data mining' and understanding people's behaviour have taken a new form in ways to gather data.

While most of the app use cases and current trials around beacons focus on interacting with consumers by sending a push message as they come into proximity of a beacon, there are additional ways of thinking beyond “instore” offers. DirectMii are trialling beacon-enabled billboards prompting customers with an offer and driving them into nearby stores.

While the beacons may fit in the palm of your hand, there are now much smaller and lighter beacons opening up the possibilities of how retailers can use them to engage customers

The Rise of the Digital Coupon “Coupon usage is ubiquitous.” 93% of Americans shop with coupons with 29% of using mobile coupons.

The Grey pound & older peoples spending power. Grey pound accounts for almost 50% of consumer spending, (business survey): The grey pound now accounts for £320billion a year - up by £100billion in nine years Spending on food and non-alcoholic drinks rose at 5.1% a year from 2003 to 2012 Over 50s account for 76% of the nation's financial wealth.. There is a lot of talk about the power of the grey pound and the huge potential this market sector has for businesses and in this plan we intend to concentrate on the tourism industry. Everyone agrees that the 60-plus market has become a large and vital sector which needs understanding and selling to. Unfortunately, mention the over 60's and they immediately start talking about non-disabled products and mobility problems as if anyone approaching retirement age automatically needs a walk-in bath. The over-60's is actually a difficult group to market to as they are a generation that has changed dramatically from when our grandparents were getting their bus passes. Marketing departments tend to assume that older people are all the same, but the older population is more complex than the younger population, with many people in their sixties having a young outlook on life and not considering themselves to be 'old'.

Their lives are full and busy, many are still working or looking after their grandchildren or even still have their own children at home and maybe juggling with caring for a parent as well. The grey pound is now much more colourful and they don't necessary want or need to change their lifestyle just because they've reached a milestone birthday. They are the baby-boomer generation who are used to not only getting what they want, but being made to feel good about it in the process. We want to help businesses tap into this lucrative market sector, put aside images of saga cruises reach out to the 'not-so-grey' generation with the help and use of our app and cloud based system.

Purple pound as a driver. We are at the forefront of promoting the benefits to businesses on the marketing potential of the spending power of disabled people. We intend and capitalise on this by advocating these benefits linked to the management and consideration of disabled people to access, wayfind and evacuate buildings with the use of our app. The increase in app take up will be in essence a driver to use when interacting with new business as a new possible market for business to work with.

Spotlight Disability rights campaigner and served as Chairman of the Disability Rights Commission from 2000 to 2007, and was also founding Commissioner of its successor the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Sir Bert Massie

It was a common occurrence in the 60s... “I’d go to a restaurant and people would say: ‘We don’t serve wheelchairs’. “And I would say: ‘Well that’s okay, I don’t eat wheelchairs’.”

“With the Honours system you can always think of people more deserving who never get anything; it was once put to me that the font of the Honours system is the Queen and the closer you are to the Queen the more likely you are to get splashed,” he says.

Thankfully, after a lifetime of campaigning by people like Sir Bert Massie, such events are now rare if unheard of. Though his sense of humour remains A fiercely proud Liverpudlian, Sir Bert, 64, has devoted his life to helping to bring about the changes which have seen discrimination against disability outlawed and changes made to make the world a more accessible place for disabled people (although there is yet more to be done).

In 1978, he joined the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation (RADAR) and was its director from 1990 to 1999. He served as chairman of the Disability Rights Commission from 2000 to 2007 and was founding commissioner of its successor, the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Not surprisingly, it is a career which has led to an array of honours: the OBE in 1984; the CBE in 2000 and a Knighthood for ‘services to disabled people’ in 2007, which were greeted with typical humility.

Focusing on what's important

Time & Tide...

One of the biggest challenges businesses face is time – There’s never enough to get it all done, we advise businesses to create and promote software that save time and is to use and is more convenient and easy accessible As a business owner one of the things that robs you of your time is lack of focus. It is so easy to get distracted by the thing that is calling the loudest, no matter if it’s the thing you really need to do today.

'Time is a greedy player who wins without cheating' If throughout the day you have a finite amount of time and an infinite list of things on your plate, then it’s crucial that you develop a habit of focusing on the most important things on that list on a consistent basis. If marketing, planning or procedures are on your list, then having a 'one stop shop' that can do several things in one place make sense. In this current business climate there is a push to cloud based services and this is a fluid and dynamic approach.

New update, enhancement and bug fixes are easier to do, this equates to reduced costs, improved performance and the Chances are you rely on cloud computing to solve the challenges faced by businesses. Creating information plans being way-finding, policies or procedures having a single system to broadcast these to people's phones is a time rich strategy. DirectMii cloud based system is that and much more

Ten Benefits of cloud computing: ● Flexibility ● Automatic updates ● Increased collaborations ● Security ● Document control ● Mobile ● Capital expenditure FREE ● Competitiveness ● Data recovery ● Environmentally friendly A clear and simple strategy that focuses smart cloud inter-reactive management system. As people know, 'time and tide waits for nobody'

USA style court cases, are they about to come to the UK Over 50% of nearly 5000 disability discrimination small claim cases in a single year in the state of California were brought by two law firms.

Now with the house of lords review it seams it could become easier to take a court case for disability discrimination. Extracts from the house of lords report on the Equalities Act 'The impact on disabled people' Remedies in the courts (section 417). Despite the fees, despite the costs, despite the complexity of the statutory provisions and the case-law, despite the complication of tribunal and—even more—court procedure, it is still possible for disabled people to bring cases on their own and, often, to win. Evidence taken from disabled people who have done just that. Jonathan Fogerty is a tetraplegic following a spinal cord injury in 1988 when he was 14 years old. He has paralysis from the chest down and no lower limb function. He qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and has practised in personal injury compensation cases since qualifying. He has taken four cases through the Small Claims Court alleging discrimination on the grounds of disability where a service provider has failed to make a reasonable adjustment and not provided wheelchair access.

In every case, court staff were unaware of their obligations as a service provider. Court employees’ reactions when I have requested an adjustment or aid gives me the impression that the Court Service has very few disabled service users.

We believe documents issued by the

Injunctive relief: Damages alone are often not enough; the cause of the discrimination needs to be addressed. An example is the case of Allen v Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc. The claimant was a wheelchair user and was unable to access the main branch of his bank in Sheffield.

Such documents will however need to stress that, particularly in cases concerning physical barriers, this will require expert evidence and likely allocation to the fast or multi track of the court. Such applications will not be easy without legal representation

This would have been possible if a platform lift had been installed but the bank declined to do so, not directly on grounds of cost, but because the space required would have resulted in the loss of an interview room. The judge in the county court awarded the claimant £6,500 for injury to feelings. This alone would however still have left him unable to access the banking facilities he needed. The judge further ordered the bank to install a platform lift within nine months.

He told us that he has also pursued complaints by way of written correspondence with a service provider, a number of which have resulted in an out of court settlement.

(Section 423). The ability of county courts to issue injunctions is a powerful tool. Sadly, it appears to be little known among disabled people, and sometimes their legal representatives

(section 421). For everyone, but particularly for people like these, HM Courts and Tribunals Service should live up to its name as a service provider. Mr Paulley told us: “I have sued the Court Service three times for disability discrimination, reaching binding outof-court agreements in two cases and winning the third

Mr Fogerty told us of litigation against a restaurant which was inaccessible to him. He was awarded damages, but he did not ask the court to grant an injunction, and “the restaurant remains as inaccessible today as it was two years ago.”He regretted not having applied for an injunction.

courts and others relating to discrimination litigation need to give more prominence to the ability of the courts to grant injunctions in appropriate cases.

On reflection: Like a lot of claims on the surface it a moral argument, however; there is a lot about the cost's, -the cost to defend a single case can be higher than an acceptable compensation a person is willing to take. -Now multiply this by not just several, but dozens, even hundred of single cases brought against a single business. Who pays? the company, -the insurance company -or is it ultimately the customer. If the business changes it's attitude towards disabled people and removes barriers, offers an alternative services and created an environment that is accessible and diverse, isn't this what society should be anyway. Like the sugar tax, leave it to be a self monitoring and industry internal matter to deal with, not much or anything changes.- or use a big stick such as tax or freedom to sue under the law to force change for the good of all people, after all most disabilities are acquired later on in life and we are living longer so it's an investment in the future. -(isn't it?)

Is this social Justice or a law firms next gold mine?

Getting lost can be costly for the Health service Hospitals are difficult to find your way around, with miles of near-identical corridors leading to door after door of similarly-named wards and treatment rooms. Strict hygiene requirements mean decor must be kept to a minimum, and evolving needs mean rooms often change purpose at short notice.

A Life-Changing Inspiration In March of 2011 Dr. Milton O’Brien was transferring his 91-year-old mother from a wheelchair to a chair lift. Dr. O’Brien always felt that the transfer was unstable and perilous because there was nothing for him to grab on to. When he lifted his mother and heard the seam of her pants rip he knew there had to be a better and safer way to transfer the mobility challenged. Dr. O’Brien purchased a gait belt/transfer belt and for several weeks utilized it in moving his mother. He found the belt slid up on her chest and as a licensed chiropractor that understands the biomechanics of the human body especially when it comes to lifting found that the gait belt was not effective and was uncomfortable for both his mother and himself. After researching devices and alternative apparel to aid in transferring the mobility challenged and coming up short, Dr. O’Brien decided to take matters into his own hands. He grabbed a pair of pants from his closet, a needle and thread and created TransferPants™. Not only does TransferPants™ benefit the mobility impaired but the support worker/ caregiver as well. Handles are discreetly placed where pockets would be as well as in both the front and back of the pants at the waistband. These handles are sewn on the outside of the pants and into the inside mesh liner. The interior liner acts like a sling taking the weight of the pelvis and biomechanically making the transfer easier on both the individual and the support worker

WHAT ARE TRANSFER-PANTS? Transfer Pants are a revolutionary new clothing made with heavy duty nylon handles sewn into the pants and the liner to prevent falls and injuries to mobility impaired individuals. Inconspicuous and unobtrusive handles put less strain on the back of the support worker when transferring people from seats to chairs, beds to wheelchairs and even supporting people unsteady on their feet whilst walking.

Interior liner prevents an uncomfortable “irritations” and can help to reduce skin abrasions. Gives confidence that aides greater security for the individual during rehabilitation, physical therapy and activities of daily living. Ideal for mobility impaired individuals with lower extremity weakness and paralysis (including back pain).

The Ultimate Transfer Solution It is challenging for those who suffer lower body injury and paralysis, particularly heavy, or has difficulty supporting their own weight to find a suitable medium for regular transfer needs in the struggle of daily living. Transfer Pants is the brand new personal transfer clothing that provides lift support and helps prevent a sudden fall that may occur during transfers. It offers a unique functionality that guarantees an easy, safe, and comfortable transfer procedure.

Support workers: Greater than one third of back injuries among caregivers are attributed to handling residents— frequent and repetitive transfers increase the likelihood of injury. Muscle sprains, back strains and tears account for approximately 43% of support workers/ caregiver spinal related injuries. Our goal is to reduce staff turnover and absenteeism, increase productivity, improve employee morale, and increase resident comfort with no cost to you. Public Services Consultations with Resilience forums resulted in additional feature being introduced that would be of major importance and benefit to their roles in public warnings and notifications. Public Forums can use the DirectMii system to operate crisis management and issues alerts to the crowds in public events and have access live data of location of people including the number who may have reduced mobility or a disability.

Public Services & Buildings: From the perspective of Local, governmental authorities and councils having the ability to record data on building usage and now to include data around disability is a new and novel approach to gather service users’ data. This has been a key feature of the DirectMii system that is welcomed by public bodies. The system can disclose far better data quality, methods of recording and examining trends that lie at the heart of the system with access/ownership priority. Within a public sector service acceptable data quality is crucial to operational and procedural processes and to the reliability of analytics /data intelligence reporting. Data quality is affected by the way data is entered, stored and managed. Data quality assurance (DQA) is the process of verifying the reliability and effectiveness of data. Our system has been designed from this fundamental ethos and has under gone many trials and stress testing. From an employer’s perspective, public bodies can use the security features to protect plans for individual personal emergency evacuation plans (peep's) for disabled employees in their workplace.

Public communications and the promoting social diversity, inclusion and equality information and campaigns can make use of the app with a publicity targeted to visitors and guest to public buildings, events or by a set location/ attraction For fire and rescue services an easy access portal is available from any mobile device with internet connection that can allow a view evacuation plans already created and posted on-line. Another key feature of the DirectMii system is the 'Home feature’ which allows the location of disabled people homes and their medical conditions including their ability to evacuate from their home. This is produced in partnership with the Fire & Rescue Service and the client in their own home (mobile access is available) and in an emergency at the client’s home, on attending the Fire & Rescue Service would get notification who is in the property, any needs they may have and if there are any dangerous items (e.g. oxygen tanks). If the person requires advanced evacuation from their home, a full plan can be implemented with aides and equipment needed by disabled people be in place, ready and waiting in the evacuation shelter. Selling Services into Wider Markets

Public bodies and Departments are encouraged to allow their Executive Agencies and NDPBs to benefit from income generated by their own sales into wider markets. The policy applies to the commercial exploitation of physical assets, including equipment, land and premises and non-physical assets including intellectual property, data and skills. A Non-Departmental Public Bod NDPBs would normally undertake more straightforward projects themselves. However, larger, more complex projects should be taken forward in partnership with the private sector. NDPBs could benefit from such opportunities by retaining the benefits of income generated, or to offset administration cost expenditure and meet efficiency targets. NDPBs are expected to seek out and implement wider markets opportunities, which they should develop in line with the Wider Markets Guidance which sets out a framework for such activity. (extract from Public Bodies: A Guide for Departments Chapter 7: Financial Management – Planning, Funding and Control). The data collected by the DirectMii system has a value that can be exploited and be an additional source for income form data mining New income opportunities for public bodies to market venues, services and events direct to the public either via enquiries or when visiting event/ attractions under the control of the public body.

Education

In a recent publication a quote about the use of Technology in education said; “Ever since the arrival of the computer, technology has been seen as a paradise for cheaters, scammers and corner-cutters the world over. Within education particularly, technology is held in suspicious fingers with heavy frowns at the world of online essay mills, fake degrees, uncertified courses and leaked exam papers.” But technology and education don’t have to be kept separate – combining interactive technology for educational establishments has been proven to help accelerate learning and promote more innovative methods of retention than a simple textbook and a set of cue cards could ever do. And learning is only a part of it; technology also has other benefits for students, including better safety, better health and better communication.

For Universities, colleges and schools. There are several features that is common to all business in regards to way finding within education establishment that is similar to business buildings, however; there are also differences that are unique to these building/sites. New foreign students whose first language is not native to the establishment they are attending soon will be able to get way find instructions in their own language. Full pictorial guides and floor plans of buildings can be accessed from their phone, this can also include information on locations of services (food halls, toilets and accessible info) and contact details if necessary.
