77 SKETCHS
summary For this particular project, our goal was to design an icon that would be visually pleasing at 24x24px, 64x64px, and 88x88px this being the size of an app icon.
thumbnails For this project we were all assigned an action word. My word was touch, getting started was tough, but after some research i went back to it with full force. out of the 77 drawn only 3 were chosen

ICON VARIATIONS
ICON CHOICE concepts
development
after reviewing all 77 icons only 3 were choosen. from the three choosen it was time to start designing and creating variations of the choosen design.
after reviewing all variations of icons i decided this would be the most interesting one to do. the key on the hand was one of the many strong design concepts, as the finger key gives the viewer a sense of closeness, a sort of action. out of all concept ideas this was the strongest ones due to the simplicity of the design.

SKETCHES
VARIATIONS OF ICON
sketches during the sketching process i only try to think about one thing, how can i make this visually interesting. this process can be particularly hard as you run out of ideas. for this particular design i decided to work less on the design of the finger icon and more on the background.

finalizing during the finalizing process one of the hardest things to do is narrowing down your choices. this choice wasn’t particularly hard as 3 out of the final 6 designs are actually interesting to look at. some are more viusally pleasing then others.

hand cubes
hand expanding
this particular design was a challege due to the background. for this design i wanted to crate an illusion of depth i was able to achieve this effect by placing a cut out of the background into the hand and chanign the color. then by aligning it correctly to the squares in the background i was able to achieve a sort of depth effect.
this was one of the easier designs to deal with. this particular design was suppose to have 3 hand expaning but was cut to 2 due to size constraints. the red was choosen as a way to highlight the design in the middle and the blue was to sort emphazie the red while giving of a sense of a growing figure.

100 LIGATURES
FUTURA
summary for this project we were assigned to create a ligature out some of the most famous fonts, such as helvetica, bodoni, futura, franklin gothic, etc. then after creating multiple ligatures we were assigned to draw and paint them on illustration board with plaka
sketches when creating a ligature the most important thing is the font. for this project i mostly gravitated towards futura being as its a clean and sharp font i couldnt wait to start sketching. throughout this process i tried to think about what two words would look most interesting when put together, then i though about the various ways it could be moved, aligned, and flipped.

DIGITAL LIGATURE
development for this part of the project we were made to digitze our sketches and put them together, already having in mind the ones i would go on to illustrate and paint i still wanted to keep my options open by creating as many variations of ligatures as possible.

GI LIGATURE final these are hand painted ligatures on illustration board. these were first printed then traced onto the board, then with an illustration pen i outlined the shape of the ligatures. then they were filled in with black placka and mistakes were cleaned with white plaka.

TYPE ON BOX
MOCK-UPS mock-ups this project was made using the ligatures from the previous design, this project was a challenge figuring out the angles of the ligatures and how to place them correctly being as they would be folded. for certain i stuck to simple design choices altering them a lot or a little.

LOGOTYPE FINAL
type on box this project was a challenge, mostly due to figuring out how to constrict the design to a 3x3 in. square, after figuring out that, the next challenge was how can i make this visually interesting.for two of the boxes i simply used the design i had already created and made an out line or divided and put a stroke on it. to me the most visually interesting one is the GI cube, for this cube in particular i stuck to a negative and postive aspect of design trying to use

COLOR GUIDE COLOR GUIDE this project was a study of color and how a change of transparency can affect a color. this project was very interesting as i always have struggle with color and contrast.

summary
INSPIRATION
for this project we were assigned a famous and influental graphic designer. this poster would need to be created on a 11x17 page size with a .25 in. border. we were assigned to create and use a grid to correctly showcase not only our designer but the information included.
knowing nothing about herbert bayers work i took to carefully picking and personally choosing some of his best work. what i ended up learning is that bayer loves the GRID and loves geometric shapes. with that knowledge i would try and start my design process.

MOCK-UP 2 DESIGN CONCEPT for this part of the project it was a challenge to find the correct way to start. being as i wanted to strongly showcase herbert bayer’s style i opted opted out from using the grid through the mock-up and stayed more closely to his photonontage style.

CREATING A GRID
FINAL POSTER
when creating this grid i wanted to stay as close as possible to bayer’s geometric style. through the process of setting it up i would brainstorm of how i could put it together, would be a typography poster or an illustration. now having the grid set-up it was about time to start getiing to work.
for this final poster i not only used my grid to create my poster but i used my grid as a way to give depth to it. by lowering or increasing the transparency in various parts of the poster im able to showcase depth. I decided to stick to bayer’s photomontage style and broke his face down into various pieces, forcing the viewer to look at the entirety of the poster to learn who it is. for the typography part of the poster i decied to us P22 bayer universal, bayer’s own font as a way to give credit to the designer and as way to credit the bauhaus.

ICEBERG SELFIES
PHOTOGRAPHY for this short and fast project we were assigned to visit the iceberg building where we would have to photograph ourselves with the builidng in a creative way. for those of us who are camera shy we were allowed to use props but had to get creative. for thse pictures i photographed the builidng through my hat and the little holes on top of my hat. the one with the gaterode bottle i find particularly funny since the bottle had the same color scheme as the bulding, the bottle is also named glacier freeze which i found particularly amusing
