Tom Loose, Master Craftsman Profile In Pennsylvania German Studies By Karl Pass Tom Loose (age 73), of Dauberville, Berks County, Pa., (near Leesport) is a craftsman of extraordinary talent. Back Mountain Memorial Library Benefit Auction Set The 75th Annual Back Mountain Memorial Library Auction will take place Thursday to Sunday, Aug. 12 to 15. Rain date is Monday, Aug. 16. The venue is located at 96 Huntsville Road, Dallas, Pa. Grounds open at 5 p.m. The live auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. An array of activities are scheduled during this multi-day event, such as a variety of local artisan vendors, an odds and ends tent, children’s games, food booths, a plant sale, and the vintage gazebo. Bid-time stories for kids will take place on the first three evenings of the event from 6 to 8 p.m. outside under a tent and will consisit of a puppet show, animal guests, and storytelling. Due to limited parking at the library, people are encouraged to take the shuttle bus from the Country Club Shopping Center on Route 309 at Thomas’ Market in Dallas. All proceeds benefit the Back Mountain Memorial Library. The Back Mountain Memorial Library is located at 96 Huntsville Road, Dallas, Pa. Reinholds Station Trinity Chapel Show Scheduled For Aug. 7 The Historic Reinholds Station Trinity Chapel Annual Summer Arts Festival will take place Saturday, Aug. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This small event is held at the West Cocalico Township Building, which also serves as the Reinholds Fire Company’s Banquet Hall, located at 156 W. Main St. (Route 897), in the village of Reinholds, Pa. Local artisans who will be showcasing their work for sale include Doug Shaw (wood carving), Ned Foltz (redware pottery), Ginny Good (beewax), Barbara Strawser (folk art painting), Mike Brown (folk art paper mache), Janice Sonnen (hooked and penny rugs), Cynthia Baker (weaving),
Frances Foltz (paper cutting), Randy Meckley (broom maker), Steve Good (metal works), and Barry Bennecoff (furniture and accessories), among others. There will also be regional folk art for sale from deceased artists such as John Long, Walter and June Gottshall, Breininger Pottery, Jim Seagreaves, Luke and Fannie Gottshall, and Mildred Keyser. A food stand will be on-site, and there will also be a bake sale. Items donated from exhibitors will be raffled off at 3 p.m. Ticket buyers do not need to be present to win.
