Animation Birthday Celebrations Highlight Heritage Animation Art Auction A $1.5 Million Dollar Sale Total Pushes Department To New Record A painting by one of the most famous Walt Disney Studios artists of all time helped Heritage Auctions’ Dec. 9 and 10 Animation Art Auction in Beverly Hills, Calif., clear more than $1.5 million, making it one of the most successful auctions ever for the department. The total was the department’s seventh straight auction that totaled at least $1 million and pushed its total for the year to nearly $3.7 million, establishing a new record for sales in a single year for the department. “The animation art department has enjoyed its best year yet,” said Heritage Auctions director of animation Jim Lentz. “This auction marked the perfect way to cap off the year. The Railroad Show and Collectors Market sponsored by the Harrisburg Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society will take place Saturday, March 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show, entering its 32nd year, will take place at the I. W. Abel Union Hall (Steelworkers Union) at 200 Gibson St., Steelton, Pa. The popular event will feature model railroads, railroadiana, train layouts in several gauges, movies, and a test track. Chapter member Kerry Jury will give an illustrated talk on northeastern railroads during the 1970s
at 11 a.m. A recommended donation of $5 will provide entry to the show. Children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. Proceeds directly benefit the chapter’s ongoing preservation projects. A snack bar will be on the premises. This show is returning to Steelton after being held in Middletown in 2017. The Harris Tower is the chapter’s restored 1931 Pennsylvania Railroad interlocking tower featuring the original electro-pneumatic levers now linked to a computer for simulated action, and it will be

Children can participate in craft activities at George Washington’s birthday party. Come celebrate George Washington’s birthday at Rock Ford Plantation. This children’s event is for ages 4 through 10 years and will be held on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Rock Ford barn. Spend time learning about our nation’s first president through crafts, games, stories and other activities. Children will sing happy birthday and enjoy cake and ice cream. Reservations are required and are limited to a maximum of 24 guests. The cost is $10 per child and $5 per adult. A parent must accompany his or her child during the event. Built in 1794, Rock Ford was the home of Edward Hand and his family. Hand served as adjutant general to George Washington during the Revolutionary War. The historic property is open for tours Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from April to October. It is operated by the nonprofit Rock Ford Foundation.
