By Karl Pass “I’m happy for Corrine. She has always been a well respected person and deserves it,” said Jeff DeHart during the successful auction of Corinne Machmer’s collection. The twoday sale was held Feb. 26 and 27 by Conestoga Auction Company, a division of Hess Auction Group in Manheim, Pa. “I didn’t hold anything back. It was time,” said Machmer following the sale. “I’m passing the things on to many people who can now enjoy looking at them like I have and that honestly brings me happiness. Of course, there were some ups and downs in prices, but I’m happy with the outcome and how it was handled. As dealers, we live and die by the sword,” said Machmer. A glass and china specialist, Machmer was a longtime fixture at regional southeastern Pennsylvania shows. Well-liked and personable, the retired antiques dealer is currently in transitional housing. “I had cancer six years ago, but things are good now and I will soon move into my own first story apartment.”
The Speaker’s House, a nonprofit organization located in Trappe, Montgomery County, Pa., is thrilled to announce that Chef Walter Staib is the recipient of the 2016 Speaker’s Choice Award. Chef Staib is best known for his TV show, “A Taste of History,” winner of six Emmy Awards. As a chef and food historian, Staib brings America’s culinary heritage to life through his show and at his restaurant, City Tavern, in Philadelphia. He has been in the kitchen for more than four decades, beginning his culinary career at age four when he was recruited to peel garlic in his uncle’s restaurant. He is the author of “A Sweet Taste of History,” “City Tavern: Recipes from the Birthplace of America,” “City Tavern Baking & Dessert Cookbook,” and “Black Forest Cuisine.” Established in 2008, the

The Delaware Train Show And April Fools Toy Show The Delaware Train Show will take place on Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Nur Shrine Center, located on Route 13/198 South DuPont Highway in New Castle, Del. Admission will be $5 and children under the age of 12 will be admitted free of charge. There will also be an 8 a.m. early buyers preview for $10. This show will feature over 150 tables of trains, accessories, slotcars, and various toys. The event is known to showcase a diversity of trains in all scales and makes for sale. The train show is Saturday only. On Sunday, April 3, the April Fools Toy Show will take over the Nur Shrine Center. This show is billed as the largest toy show on the east coast with more than 175 tables
of new, collectible and antique toys. It will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission will be $5 and children under the age of 12 will be admitted free of charge. There will also be a 9 a.m. early buyers preview for $10. These two popular shows are rain or shine events and offer free parking. The Nur Shrine Center is convenient to I-95, I-295 and U.S. Route 40. The fall editions of the Delaware Train Show and Octoberfest Toy Show will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29 and 30.
