The Folk Art Collection Of Elie And Viola Nadelman On View Major Exhibition Will Be Held At the New-York Historical Society Widely recognized for his elegant and spare modernist sculptures, Elie Nadelman is less known for his role as a pioneering American folk art collector. This summer, This Samuel Troxel (1803-70) redware dish, 1828, from Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County, Pa., is a rare survivor and from the New-York Historical Society, purchased from Elie Nadelman, 1937.708. the New-York Historical Society will celebrate the seminal collection assembled by the modernist artist and his wife in “The Folk Art Collection of Elie and Viola Nadelman.” On view Friday, May 20, through Sunday, Aug. 21, the exhibit features more than 200 objects across a wide range of media including furniture, sculpture, paintings, ceramics, glass, iron, textiles, drawings and watercolors, and household tools. This is the first major exhibition to focus on the Nadelmans’

trailblazing venture. These two wooden carved eagles attributed to Wilhelm Schimmel are from the New-York Historical Society, purchased from Elie Nadelman, INV.7954 and 1937.1124. Nadelman was one of the earliest collectors of Schimmel’s carvings, buying the work when the pieces were roughly 40 years old. Schimmel died in an almshouse in Carlisle, Pa., in 1890.

Memorabilia And Original Art From Disney’s “Alice In Wonderland” On View New Exhibit Open At Geppi’s Entertainment Museum The new “Alice in Wonderland” exhibit at Geppi’s Entertainment Museum (GEM) in Baltimore, Md., showcases more than 200 pieces of Alice memorabilia from the collection of Matt Crandall.
