Premier Automobilia And Petroliana Sale Goes Into Overdrive

Pook & Pook Inc. Auctioneers and Appraisers is excited to announce a new collaboration with the jovial, mustachioed king of toy auctions, Noel Barrett. After over 40 years “playing” with antique toys, first as a dealer then, starting in 1988, as an auctioneer, Barrett is teaming up with Pook & Pook Inc., a premier east coast auction firm. Barrett and Pook & Pook Inc.’s founder, Ron Pook, expressed excitement about joining forces, a move that will benefit both companies, buyers, and sellers. The big question, however, is why these two

well-established auction houses are looking to collaborate after decades of going it alone. Noel Barrett started his love affair with toys, predictably, at an early age. Over time, his fascination evolved from seeing toys as “neat things to have” to pursuing the business behind childhood nostalgia. “Toys are something that I’ve always enjoyed. I’ve turned a hobby into a business,” said Barrett. Years of hunting and dealing helped Barrett build both a superior knowledge of his field and a loyal client base, things that made his eventual auction business a hot

Products sign featuring a well dressed musketeer, and Lot #1116, a Conoco Motor Oil sign featuring a colonial-period soldier. They realized $76,250 and $26,840. And Lot #845, a Kelly Tires “Lotta Miles” logo sign featuring a beautiful young woman, generated a-lotta interest to realize $94,550. It was also a bull market for signs featuring animals and industrial themes. Lot #713, a Shell Aviation Gasoline sign featuring the company’s famous “scallop” logo, tripled its low estimate to realize $12,200. Lot #968, a Waggoner Refining Company Petroleum Products steer logo sign, stampeded to $31,720, while Lot #351, a Husky Service logo sign, pulled in $58,560. Lot #959, a Continued on page 2

Third Of Four Sales Featuring The Kyle Moore Collection Sells For $3.8 Million At Morphy Auctions It was off to the races with Morphy’s recent Premier Automobilia and Petroliana Auction. This two-day event, held on April 23 and 24, featured almost 1,250 lots. After the final bid crossed the finish line, 42 lots realized between $10,000 to $24,999; 10 lots realized $25,000 to 49,999; and 3 lots topped $50,000. The total gross was $3.8 million. All prices reported include Morphy’s 22 percent buyer’s premium. The rubber hit the road with this auction’s amazing selection of car themed signs. Those highlighting people and characters really caught the eye of collectors. Lot #22, a “Silent Chief” gasoline sign illustrated with a Viking, loudly realized $42,700.
