Diverse Americana Sale Slated For Sept. 29 Cottone Auctions’ upcoming Fine Art and Antique Auction, slated for Saturday, Sept. 29, will feature an extensive variety of first-time offerings, including the impressive collection of Dr. Gregory Alan Zemenick, an orthopedic surgeon from Troy, Mich., with a passion for collecting Americana, spanning a wide range of interests. The auction will start at noon Eastern time. The Cottone Auctions gallery is located at 120 Court St. in Geneseo, N.Y., southwest of Rochester. For those unable to attend the auction live and in person, internet bidding will be facilitated by LiveAuctioneers.com, Invaluable.com and the Cottone website, www.live.cottone auctions.com. Phone and absentee bids will also be accepted. Dr. Zemenick is known affectionately in the antique world as “Dr. Z.” Highlighting his vast collection is a stunning 18-inch Tiffany Oriental Poppy table lamp (est. $60,000-$80,000), a Tiffany Studios Dichroic leaded glass table lamp (est. $7,000-$10,000), a Tiffany Studios 10-light Lily lamp (est. $10,000-$15,000), and a Jewel and Feather table lamp (est. $6,000-$10,000). Americana will feature several Cigar Store Indians, with the expected top earner being a Princess attributed to Thomas Brooks (est. $15,000$20,000), plus other folk art and an array of whaling items. Several antique and vintage clocks will cross the auction block, to include an Eli Terry shelf clock made from carved mahogany, with rare lion, unicorn and coat of arms crest; a Simon Willard patent banjo clock; a George Stevens three-dial tower clock; a Gale’s astronomical regulator; several Massachusetts shelf clocks; and Bradley and Hubbard blinking eye clocks. Zemenick portion of the sale, a diverse selection of fine Tiffany lamps, paintings, silver, Americana, Oriental rugs, Asian items, and decorative items will be auctioned. Other Tiffany Studios lamps will include a Nasturtium lamp with 22-inch diameter shade (est. $60,000$80,000), a fine Late 19th-century carved and painted Princess Cigar Store Indian attributed to Thomas Brooks (1828-95), with an overall height of 6 feet 9 inches, will be estimated at $15,000-$25,000. Arrowroot table lamp with 20-inch diameter shade (est. $35,000$45,000), and a jeweled Dogwood table lamp with a shade 16 inches in diameter (est. $20,000$40,000). A 5.18-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond and diamond ring carrying an estimate of $100,000-$150,000 will headline the jewelry category, along with a Heuer, Abercrombie and Fitch Co. stainless steel Seafarer chronograph wristwatch (est. $7,000$10,000). A superb Cartier pink Guilloche enameled travel clock,

Asked about what struck him most about the sale, Chilton said, “Military firearms continue to be the hot sellers at these auctions.” Bearing that out, a deactivated Bren MKII light machine gun sold for $1,700, the top price in that category. Joan Sides recently announced the Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16, D.C. Big Flea and Antiques Market will be sold out of exhibitor spaces at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Va. With 600 exhibitors for the weekend, shoppers can expect great selections in antiques, fine art, home décor and early collectibles. There will also be a special exhibit supported by the National Heisey Museum of Newark, Ohio, and produced by The DelMarVa Depression Glass Club. Ted Sheets, head of the club, will have a special

area for club members exhibiting at the show. In addition, there will be two seminars, one Saturday on glass, and one Sunday on pottery. Both will be held at 1 p.m. The D.C. Big Flea and Antiques Market is held six times each year. The show always has great selections of early Americana, European art and antiques, and collectibles.
