It’s at its strongest and most energetic when the truly great collections appear at auction, as will be the case on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11 and 12, when Bertoia Auctions presents its Fall Signature Sale, with a bonus Sunday session of holiday antiques and trains. “Everyone who has come in to preview has commented that this is going to be one of the best sales we’ve ever had, and I would definitely agree,” said Bertoia Auctions’ owner, Jeanne Bertoia. “The quality is very high across the board, with consignments from prestigious collections in every category.” Jeanne cited several blue-chip sources, including the pressed steel and pedal car collection of the late A desirable Marklin “Battleship Sankt Georg,” 28 inches long, is estimated at $100,000-$140,000. Eugene DeGraw, mechanical banks from Texas collector/Mechanical Bank Collectors of America (MBCA) member Steve Said, and a long-held collection of Martin clockwork toys from a past Antique Toy Collectors of America (ATCA) member who tracked down elusive examples over several decades. Also, there will be trains from Jerry Greene and other veteran collectors, as well as an exceptional Christmas grouping from the same estate collection that was introduced in Bertoia’s March Signature Sale. The long-running Elverson Antique Show is nearing its 50th anniversary and will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11 and 12. The show will be held at the Twin Valley High School in Elverson, Chester County, Pa. Twin Valley High School is located at 4897 N. Twin Valley Road, and is 1.9 miles east of the Morgantown exit (Exit 298) of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Show hours will be from

Christmas Past and had a connoisseur’s eye,” stated Jeanne. “Probably half of the items are so outstanding, even the most advanced Christmas collector would want to acquire them.” In the Saturday session, there are 10 Santas that measure 24 inches in height or taller. “If even one Santa of that type appears in an auction, that’s impressive, but ten is unheard of,” said Bertoia. Also featured are Belsnickles, large Father Christmas figures, a sizable Krampus, chalk Santas, and Heubach figures of children on skis, holding snowballs, etc. The cast-iron section includes both automotive and horse-drawn toys. Among the Hubley highlights are a Royal Circus Giraffe wagon, a Hill Climber motorcycle, and a skyblue “Say It With Flowers” motorcycle delivery van. Early Kenton autos will be ready to take a spin, as well. A small offering of 1880s bell and pull toys includes a boxed, nearmint J. & E. Participating with the Extraordinary Give program in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the National Watch and Clock Museum, 514 Poplar St., Columbia, will host a special event on Friday, Nov. 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. to give free clock and watch evaluations and collectible insurance advice on timepieces or other antiques brought to the museum. Watch and clock experts from the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Inc. will identify and give some historical background on each timepiece, but no estimated value can be given. While visitors enjoy light refreshments, they will be encouraged to donate to the museum through the Extraordinary Give program by using computer stations set up in the museum’s library. This special Extraordinary Give evening will be sponsored by a
partnership of Horst Insurance and Chubb Insurance Company. The Extraordinary Give is Lancaster County’s largest day of giving. Over the past five years, the Extraordinary Give has raised a total of $22.5 million for more than 500 organizations.
