Historic Odessa Celebrates The 175th Anniversary Of Charles Dickens’ Classic “A Christmas Carol, In Prose, Being A Ghost Story Of Christmas” On View Now To Dec. 30 This holiday season the Historic Odessa Foundation (HOF) in Odessa, Del., will be having a Dickens of a Christmas as it celebrates the 175th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ indelible classic “A Christmas Carol, In Prose, Being a Ghost Story of Christmas,” first published in 1843. HOF’s 2018 Christmas Holiday Tours and Special Exhibit will run through Sunday, Dec. 30. Visitors will be transported into Charles Dickens’ powerful Christmas tale of redemption as the 244-year old Corbit-Sharp House is transformed into the world of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge with vignettes to include depictions of his counting house; his lodgings; the festive Mr. Fezziwig’s ball; the austere house of Tiny Tim; the parlor of Scrooge’s nephew, Fred; and the cemetery. All of the Historic Houses of Odessa are open and on full festive display for the 2018 holiday season, including special school and family tours and events celebrating “A Christmas Carol,” a special exhibit in the National Historic Landmark Corbit-Sharp House (c. 1774), and the Storybook Trees exhibit in the WilsonWarner House (1769). Only 37 Are Known To Still Exist Alderfer Auction recently announced that an original U.S. Model 1847 Colt Walker will be among the highlights of its Firearms Auction on Tuesday, Dec. 18. The revolver is attributed to the C-Company of the Texas Rangers. Only 37 of these rare

revolvers are known to exist today. The provenance dates back to 1943, when it was discovered by the editor of the Texas Gun Collectors Association. In 1953, it was owned by William H. Robinson Jr. of Gloucester, Mass. In the Texas Gun Collectors Association Newsletter #30, Robinson used his ownership of the gun to become a member of the club. In the 1960s, the Colt appeared in Norm Flayderman’s “Gun Catalog #77” under listing

1166A. In the listing, it’s quoted as “one of the best specimens we have come across in virtually untouched condition.” Over half a century later, the revolver was found boxed in a Montgomery County, Pa., estate.

In October of 2018, the Colt was authenticated by Herb Glass Jr. of Bullville N.Y., firearms consultant and honorary curator of the West Point Museum. “As requested, I have examined U.S. Model 1847 Colt Walker Revolver C-Company No. 122. This examination consisted of complete disassembly and careful examination of all parts. As a result, I find this gun to be a genuine Colt Walker in fine ‘untouched’ condition, the known provenance of which dates to 1943 when it was discovered in Austin, Texas,” Glass said in his evaluation. Markings are crisp and excellent throughout, only the cylinder

Historic Odessa has celebrated children’s literature by recreating scenes from the classics in one of its 18th-century museum houses. Visiting members of the public have been treated to the literary works of Louisa May Alcott, P.L. Travers, Beatrix Potter, Tasha Tudor, Washington Irving, and Lewis Carroll, to name a few. In order to go green, the HOF is seeking old holiday ornaments and decorations. The foundation is once again calling on the community to donate old holiday ornaments and decorations from now through Dec. 30.
