Zoar Harvest Festival And Antiques Show Has Record Attendance Historic Village Celebrates 250th Anniversary
The Zoar Community Association’s dedicated volunteers maintain large community gardens in the village.
By Karl Pass The 44th annual Harvest Festival in the historic village of Zoar, in east-central Ohio, was held the weekend of July 29 and 30. Traditionally, the event is held the first weekend of August, but the Zoar Community Association moved the festival up one week in order to avoid falling on the same weekend as the Pro Football Hall of Fame inductions in nearby Canton. The date change proved to be a wise one. The Hall of Fame stadium and facilities are 18 miles north of Zoar, and the annual induction ceremony grows bigger every year, drawing huge crowds that inflate hotel prices throughout the region. Many dealers stated they were able to get a less expensive rate this year as a result. This year marks the 250th anniverary of Zoar, founded in 1817
Michael Gunselman of Wilmington, Del., had a good first day. The American LaFrance Pressed Metal Company water tower or pumper made in Pawtucket, R.I., ca. 1925, was $2,100.
Steve Sherhag of Canfield, Ohio, is in his second year of managing the Zoar show. The Dutch cupboard behind him sold. by German separatists. Thriving for much of the 19th century, the Zoarites are viewed as among the most successful communal settlements in our nation’s history. Continued on page 2

Reser, Cincinnati, Ohio, copper tea kettle was $850, and the paint-decorated dome-top box was $1,900. Swala had a good show. Among his sales was a pie safe and a Morgantown, W. Va., “people crock.”
