I believe a teacher’s role is to nurture creativity, to inspire, to provide rich opportunities for students to think deeply and to ensure students have the opportunity to view the world from a wide variety of perspectives. It is vital for teachers to guide students towards becoming independent learners. The pass rate before I began teaching at BIS was 30% and in 2012 100% of students passed, with several of my students achieving A*s and one of these students achieving the best results in Germany. • Student numbers increased steadily during my six years at BIS in grade 9-­‐12 music classes (music is an elective class from grade 9 upwards). In my first year at BIS there were two students studying IB Diploma Music and seven students in the IGCSE class. In 2012 13 students were studying IB Diploma Music and 20 students studying IGCSE. • A significant percentage of students at BIS learnt an instrument or voice through the instrumental program that I established. • Under my leadership extensions to the Music Department took place. In 2010 a music technology lab and band studio were built. • Hosting the Association of Music in International Schools IB Music Workshop for Students and Teachers in 2012. • Leading a Service and Cultural trip for IB Students to India. • Coordinating whole school music fund-­‐raising events for global causes. • Musical Director of ‘Bugsy Malone’ and ‘Grease’. • My students achieving ‘As’ for their Music Extended Essays. • Co-­‐ordination of the whole school Festival of Arts.
