CARE INSTRUCTIONS AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION WOODEN COMPONENTS:
METAL COMPONENTS:
The standard finish of the wood on all Antoine Proulx furniture is a postcatalytic conversion varnish: a water-clear, non-yellowing amino alkyd, ultra low formaldehyde finish that yields a low odor, smooth to the touch, water resistant protection. Stains are Greenguard certified. The wood is then waxed to enhance its natural tone and depth.
Our aluminum and cold-rolled steel inlays, supports and pulls are first degreased, sandblasted, milled, then finished with a baked-on epoxy. Cold-rolled steel is an imperfect material which exhibits natural pits and changes in density. This is an extruded product, not a cast element. The innate properties of the cold-rolled steel are not defects, simply natural characteristics.
Use a high grade furniture paste wax such as Simonize, Minwax Finishing Wax, or Butcher's Wax on wood components about every six months or more depending on furniture’s usage and direct exposure to sun. Rub some wax onto the wood, allow to dry for a few moments, then buff off with a soft, clean, dry cloth. You may also use a transparent liquid furniture polish which does not contain silicone, stains, or abrasives. Follow the manufacturer’s directions and apply with the grain. Be sure to remove any excess with a clean dry cloth. Do not use furniture oils or sprays (for example, never use Pledge, Liquid Gold, Endust, or Old English Lemon Oil). Do not use ammonia-based products on the wood components. To minimize physical damage to your table, ALWAYS use coasters, tablecloths, and hot pads. Wood finishes can be harmed by certain vinyl and rubber compounds when they are left in contact with the wood surface for extended periods of time. Some notebook covers, clear opaque mats and coasters, and the rubber or plastic feet on such items as ash trays may contain these materials. As an alternative, you may use self-adhesive felt feet or pads on objects which may mar the wood’s surface. Avoid indentions from use of pencils or ball-point pens by using a protective non-vinyl writing pad. Materials used in our furniture can be damaged by sudden temperature or humidity changes and extended exposure to sunlight, extreme heat, extreme cold, or humidity extremes. We recommend that furniture be kept in the same environment that is considered healthful for people: 65°–75° F and relative humidity of 40% to 60%.
WOODEN DRAWER BODIES: Exterior:
Interior Drawer Bodies:
All standard Antoine Proulx finish options:
Maple (or ash, depending upon availability in market) with clear finish.
Interior drawer bodies can be custom tinted or stained. Please call for an exact quote and up charge.
Don't cover metal components with plastic (for moving) because the plastic and finish may stick together. This finish needs only be Windexed periodically to remove finger prints and is, otherwise, virtually maintenance free. NEVER USE an abrasive pad or cleanser.
DINING TABLES WITH EXTENSION AND LEAVES: Our dining tables fabricated with an extension mechanism to accommodate leaves are meant to be extended for occasional use only. Keeping the table extended with the leaves in at all times is not recommended. The weight of the table top and leaves (coupled with gravity) could cause the table top to sag over time.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION REGARDING “33” STYLES: On occasion, movers mishandle our tables ending in “33.” That is, they sometimes rest them on end or on an angle which loosens the legs’ bolts. The under side of these tables has been designed so that your installer can straighten and tighten the bolts of the effected legs. First, using a rubber mallet, bang the leg into place so that the top of the leg is flush with the table top and so that the outer edge of the leg is flush with the table apron. Then, using a 9/16” wrench (either open-ended or box-ended), tighten the bolts against the table’s side apron. Using a #2 square drive screwdriver (or #2 phillips head screwdriver), tighten the bolts into the table’s top.
PHILOSOPHY: The characteristic sought most by the Antoine Proulx line of handcrafted furniture is the contrast achieved by combining “industrial” steel with luxurious, fine woods. The contrast of “industrial” and “luxe” and natural beauty which is allowed to age gracefully is the philosophy of Antoine Proulx.
