Crossing Guard Released From Hospital
There was such an amazing outpouring of love for Glen Cove’s crossing guard, Carlos Vasquez, as he was released from Northwell Glen Cove Hospital on Jan. 17 after a very lengthy stay.
In early October 2022, Vasquez was critically injured when he was struck by an SUV driven by an 82 year-old Bayville resident.

He is beloved by the many students, parents and faculty of the Deasy Elementary School, many of whom were present upon his release from the hospital, as well as his fellow team members at Glen Cove Hospital. They were also joined by City of
Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck, Glen Cove Law Enforcement, the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Dept. personnel, hospital staff and numerous friends, along with his wife and daughter.
He was visibly affected emotionally by the extraordinary support from all those present.
“We look forward to a full recovery for Mr. Vasquez and along with students and parents of Deasy School, hope to see him back at his post as their crossing guard very soon,” the mayor said.
