Town Supports New Fire Recruitment Efforts, County Tax Relief

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino joined County Executive Bruce Blakeman, North Hempstead Supervisor Jen DeSena, officials from Nassau County and members of local fire service to support new initiatives for fire service personnel. The County Executive officially declared Firefighter Recruitment Week, unveiled a new website to help recruit vol- unteers to fire service in local communities and signed legislation to shorten the length of time after which firefighters receive tax deductions.

“The men and women of our fire service are heroes in our communities,” said Supervisor Saladino. “These brave individuals make a true difference and display great heroism in helping others during times of crisis. Together with my colleagues in town government, we take great pleasure in recognizing these exemplary individuals, who put their lives on the line to protect all of ours. We commend County Executive Blakeman for expanding efforts to assist Nassau’s braves with these great initiatives.”

nassausbravest.com, which outlines requirements and benefits to volunteering in fire service. Additionally, the County Executive signed legislation into law which decreased the length of service needed for firefighters and ambulance workers to receive a tax reduction from five years to two years.
