he spirit of community engagement was alive last month, when dozens of New Cassel residents weighed in with ideas for improving the hamlet. Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Councilmember Viviana Russell and the New Cassel Steering Committee hosted a virtual community meeting to gather ideas to fulfill the requirements of a federal grant. According to a press release, “The Town was awarded a United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Community-Wide Assessment Grant. The EPA’s Brownfields Program provides assistance to help assess, safely clean up and reuse contaminated properties. This enables properties to be revitalized and put back into use. North Hempstead is reaching out the community. current and future work in the area.” See rest of story on page 19
