My book «Obstacles» explores the possibilities of interaction between user and medium. The starting point comes from the exhibition First Papers of Surrealism, which took place in New York in 1942. There, Marcel Duchamp surprised the public with one of his most famous artistic interventions. By wrapping a whole exhibit room with a wire, he nearly denied the access to the artworks. I aimed to translate Duchamp's intentions into my book. Therefore, I decided to create a parallel between the exhibition and the book as the medium of communication. The catalogue of the exhibition became the subject of my book, and I played with the physical structure of the book, using cuts, holes and rips to challenge the reader. As a result, the reader is pushed to question his/her role in a relationship with the book, just as the visitors of the surrealist exhibition did.
