My typeface «Averla New» is inspired by the style of Old style serif letters thus the calligraphic style, that was commonly used between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. After attempting to copy this old-fashioned writing style in a calligraphy workshop where we used a board nib pen and ink on paper, the shapes where obtained afterwards transformed into a digital fully editable font. The name of my typeface is inspired by that of the bird mentioned in the book «Il Visconte Dimezzato» by Italo Calvino. This story remembers distant times, medieval times as the old-style letter shapes of the «Averla New».
