My typeface «Montiqua» was created after attending a two-day calligraphy workshop with professional calligrapher Mag. Art.Eva Pöll from Austria (www.kallos.at). We learned the traditional use of the broad-nib pen and ink on different types of paper and had to copy handwritten Carolingian minuscule letters and old style text with proper technique. The results were later scanned and digitally rebuilt on Adobe Illustrator, starting from the basic skeleton of the letter and then applying a similar brush stroke to the structure. After this process, we had to choose a classic serif typeface and apply the (slightly modified) serifs to our typeface. In the end, we used the program FontSelf to convert the illustrator files into OTF files, making our finished font fully editable. The name Montiqua derives from a combination of my Antiqua handwriting with a broad-nib pen and the classic sixteenth-century serifs of the typeface Garamond, which inspired me in the creation of my new font «Montiqua»
