Anyone at some point in life sets up home. The difficult part is building a house of the heart. A place not only for sleeping, but also for dreaming. A place to grow a family with love, a place not to find shelter from the cold but a corner of our own from which to admire the changing seasons; a place not simply where to pass the time, but where to feel joy for the rest of life.

L2VS House The client is a family with young children. The renovation project has the objective of creating spaces where parents and children can easily interact with each other. The apartment counted many unutilized spaces. One of the central objective of the renovation project was to make sure to use of such spaces and enable them to become livable for the owners. Materials, furniture and lights will be carefully crafted to set up a fun and playful environment were both kids and parents could feel at home. Finally, the project speaks to the general purpose of my work: to create environments that are both functional to the needs of my clients and reflecting of their personalities.

The renovation of the living area is presents two central peculiarities. First, the creation of an entryway; second, the creation of an open-plan kitchen that opens up the living-dining room, developing the common spaces of the house into single large main environment. These peculiarities called for utilizing a plasterboard low wall with niches (1) which was built in front of the door. The unused space at the bottom of the hallway was re-adapted to create a laundry room (2), which is an indispensable element for clients. It was also decided to isolate the pillar (3) by demolishing the adjacent wall to allow the continuity of the library-TV area on the back wall. 15 | Sketches

In the pictures showing the construction site, you can see a suspended bookcase in its construction phase. At that stage, the bookcase allowed the parquet floor to lay under it. Once the floor was completed, the bookcase was closed. In the same pictures you can also see the entrance element structure that will be covered with sheets of drywall. Finally, the detail of the LED lighting of the bookcase obtained by exploiting the different heights of the ceilings. 17 | Work in progress

For the renovation of the kitchen we decided to demolish the wall (1) dividing it from the living area to create an open space where parents and children could join in a single large environment. The demolition of the wall revealed the pillar around which we built a peninsula (2) that works as a dining table but can also have multiple functions given its position in the open space. The layout of the kitchen furniture (3) has been designed to make the most out of natural light, arranging the oven and pantry columns on the opposite side of the window, while near the window there is the hood that allows the passage of light. 21 | Sketches

In the pictures of the construction site you can see the structure of the plasterboard false ceiling that has the double function of allowing the passage of the ventilation pipes in the blind bath and in the hood, and of framing the kitchen furniture. You can also note the interlocking details between parquet and cement tiles

The bedroom renovation is based on the objective to make the most out of the space available. We decided to arrange the wardrobe laterally, so that we had enough space to insert the chest of drawers and the TV in front of the bed (3). The lateral insertion of the wardrobe does not allow to place bedsides tables (2). This problem was solved by creating a low wall (which acts as a shelf where one could place desk lamps, books and photographs) behind the bed headboard that grows and frames the wardrobe (1). This design solution was made possible thanks to the substantive depth of the bedroom. Before | 28

In the pictures of the construction site, we see the construction of the low wall that grows laterally and becomes a false ceiling to frame the wardrobe. Two switches have been placed on both sides of the bed to allow the chandelier to be switched on and off comfortably from the bed. The electrical sockets have been positioned on the low wall to connect the table lights, which are essential to give clients a punctual light. In terms of interior design, wallpaper was placed on the background wall behind the low wall, to give personality to the bedroom. The colors were chosen according to the color palette of the house. 29 | Work in progress

The bathroom perimeter was very irregular. It included several edges that broke the linearity of the plan. Here, the project’s goal was to exploit the uneven edges and use them to regularize the space. The edge on the bathroom’s entrance was turned into the shower wall (1), while the area near the window has been regularized thanks to the design of a custom-made furniture (2). Finally, a plasterboard false ceiling (3) was added to regularize the ceiling and the shutter box.
