Addressing the educational needs ofchildren belonging to the economically weaker section of society through the exploration of a combined typology of a Museum and School site : Binny Mills Complex,Bangalore area : 8000 msq
Education is the foundation of a country & every individual has the right to quality education. Yet, there is a huge gap in the quality of education of a rich child and a poor child in the same city. Education policy and programs have not yet caught up with the challenges of growing urban poverty. Inflexible and over-stretched schooling systems are especially unsuitable for the them & NGOs often do a better job of offering flexible education to these marginalized groups.
“Museum, the temple of the Muses“, the very word conveys to the place of learning and study. As theaters of active learning, museums are distinct from schools and other formal educational settings. This quality of a Museum is lost in today’s world and public participation has seemingly decreased.
There is a need for Alternative education systems Following the example of an NGO – The Childrens empowerment society ; the Bal Utsav proposed- Museum School , my thesis approaches the concept of informal education for children through interactive Museum exhibits. The school covers 100’s of non school going children from the slums of Bangalore and operates 5 days a week. JAWAHARLAL NEHRU PLANETARIUM STATE ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM BAL BHAVAN

The textile industry found its decline in the 1990’s rendering thousands jobless. The iconic Binny Mills institution closed down in 2005. Many of the mill workers and their families continue to live in and around Cottonpet; a majority of them clustered around the Kempapura Agrahara area. In the winding thoroughfares of Cottonpet, among it’s working class population, the 128 year old buildings as yet untouched, is a Stark reminder of better times for its people.

A place aimed at establishing the relationship of students with life all around,FLAME is the epicenter of a university town, envisaged to have bustling streets, bazaars, sports arenas, cultural centers and social amenities that goes into nurturing a settlement. The town is set on a scenic site of 1200 acres near Pune, in the state of Maharashtra, India. An open to sky pedestrian ‘spine’ emerges as the salient design feature that connects the various blocks, enacting as a ‘breathing space’. The Executive education centre is an extension to ths spine.

what is the identity of frazer town ?? GREEN RESIDENTIAL MOSQUE RD HISTORIC PENSIONER’S PARADISE
COLONIAL ATTACHMENT
Jaaga site area
: Frazer Town, Bangalore, India : 2700 msq
The co-existence of what WAS and what IS, forms the identity of Frazer town.Whether it be the new establishments formed in colonial buildings, new buildings taking up the style of Colonial Architecture, or just the composition of the Old and New, giving character to the streets of this town. 28
THE TANGIBLE & THE INTANGIBLE
commercial market
Due to causes like Land Parcelling , Commercialization & the silicon boom of the 20th century, there are hardly any Colonial Bungalows left in Frazer town. The one’s left are concentrated in RICHARD’S TOWN & PROMENADE ROAD. Residents enjoy the colonial bungalows but due to economic factors, maintaenance and family relocation they sell their land to new property developers. Modern buildings exist mainly on the commercial roads of Frazer town like Mosque road, MM Road and Coles Road.
The Economic status of the people of Frazer town can be greatly divided into the Type A and the Type B category . Type A : Upper class, Upper-middle class Type B : Middle Class, Lower - Middle Class, EWS

Case study of Viviani House, Richards Town (i) Division of public, semi public & private space in the site and building plan. (ii) (v) Services pushed to the back of the site, separating the fundamental functions. (iii) (v) Open Grid Plan & Symmetry provides flexibility in space usage & expansion since the house is not specifically designed for it’s owners. (iv) (v) Cross ventilation throughout the house making the building environmentally adaptive to all seasons. (v) Due to varying heights and volumes the quality of space is balanced and can be adapted to various kinds of functions (ii) (v) Abundance of open land around the bungalow helps in controling the microcli mate of the space and also permits for larger expansion and spill outs
