Student Extracurricular Enrichment Fund (SEEF) 2013 Guidelines Background In 2011, the Commonwealth Parliament passed the Higher Education Legislation Amendment (Student Services and Amenities) Act 2011 which enabled higher education providers to charge a compulsory Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). From the monies collected from SSAF, an allocation of $200,000 has been made to support student-led activities that enrich the extracurricular life of the student community. Eligibility Both individual students and student groups are eligible to apply at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The grant is available to the funding of activities that would bring demonstrable benefit to the ANU students or the ANU community. Applications must comply with SSAF Guidelines and applicants cannot be awarded more than one grant in the same calendar year. Funding Grants are approved on a competitive basis. Funding can be provided to support a specific activity or program of activities. • Up to $2,000 for individual students • Up to $5,000 for student groups Grant applications will be assessed according to the following criteria: • Enrichment of the student experience through social, sporting, cultural, intellectual, pastoral or other extracurricular activity • Demonstrable benefit to the ANU community that flows beyond the individual • Extent to which the application fulfils SSAF categories/criteria Examples of activities that might be supported include, but are not limited to: • A student seeking support to enable them to take part in a national or international event, such as a competition, ambassadorial role or performance • An individual or a student group organising a workshop or conference at ANU • A major initiative on campus, such as a performance, competition or recreational event Student Extracurricular Enrichment Fund (SEEF) – 2013 Guidelines

Funding is not available to: • Support general running costs of groups • Activities that have already occurred • Payments to students in the form of honoraria, stipends or salaries, and • Activities relating to a student's academic coursework, including internships Unsuccessful applicants from previous rounds may re-apply but should take into consideration the funding guidelines of the current round. Receipt of Funding Applicants will receive 75% of any awarded funding at the beginning of their project, with the remaining 25% distributed upon completion of the project and receipt of the acquittal documents. Direct funding can also be provided for any invoices Students with extraordinary financial limitations can request to initially receive more than 75% of total funding if they are able to demonstrate, in their application: - Evidence of financial self help - Evidence of limited financial support, such as Centrelink eligibility Funds must be spent by completion of the project and only in exceptional circumstances may funding be carried over. Any unexpended funds must be returned. Applications Applications can be submitted via the automatic online form at http://anusa.com.au, and must include the following details: • Name of group, student name(s), student ID(s) and contact details (of holders of the group) • Description of extracurricular project or activity including Ø Start and finish dates Ø How the project will benefit ANU students and the community (maximum of 500 words) Ø Measurable outcomes or objectives • Project/activity budget, including details of other funding sources • If applicable, a request and evidence for an equity consideration Applicants may attach any supporting documentation to their application as evidence of their project, and will receive email confirmation upon a decision being made on their application. Applications exceeding the word limit or failing to provide sufficient details will only be considered at the discretion of the selection committee. Applications relating to 2

sporting activities should also be accompanied by a letter of support from ANU Sport. Timing Funds are awarded monthly. Applications close on the following dates: • Semester 1: Thursday 7 March, Thursday 4 April, Thursday 2 May • Semester 2: Thursday 8 August, Thursday 5 September, Thursday 3 October Acquittal Requirements Within a month of project completion, recipients must submit documentation of their activity, including: • A 200-word report measuring achievement of the outcomes in the application • A budget report of expenditure against the requested funds, including copies of all receipts, invoices and details of alternative sources of funding • A declaration that all funds were expended for the purposes for which they were provided Documentation can be completed via the automatic acquittal form at http://anusa.com.au. Funding must be spent by the completion of the project. Any unexpended funds must be returned to the fund. Project Selection Projects will be evaluated by a panel comprising the PVC (Student Experience), the Dean of Students, two Student Administration Services representatives, the ANUSA Social Officer and GAC Representative, two PARSA GAC Representatives, two SRA representatives and two representatives from ANUSM. Feedback Given the number of applications, limited feedback will be provided to unsuccessful applications. The decision of the selection committee is final.
