THE IDENTIFICATION OF SITE :

STRENGTH The stretch has a very distinct and diversified landuse. Buildings in this strech is highly influenced by Neo-Classical Style and shows harmony with occasional pinch contemporary and modern style.

Azad market Design

parking space redesign & redevelopment

weakness A very large portion of buildings and lands in the stretch remains unused, abandoned, and lacks maintainance. The building morphology instead of being uniform throughout the stretch changes its character from time to time.

opportunity The unsued land and abandoned buildings can be utilised for future usage and expansions if needed. Some portions of the defence and overnment land can be used for developing public services (Public Toilets, Bus Stand etc) if required.

threats Encroachments and illegal occupation of vacant lands poses great threat in identifying the land ownership and in development of the area. The established buildings that are old pose hindrance to the development of character to the building morphology.

Bhootnath records high pedestrian and non-motorized transit users during peak business hours in the evening, highest between 6pm to 7pm.

AWAS VIKAS BUILDINGS REDEVELOPMENT

Opportunities to Stand/Stay: To establish a lear relation between private shops and public spaces by clear definition of spaces for pedestrians to walk, stand and stay. Opportunities to Sit: It is essential to provide provisions for seating at appropriate locations by better organization of space. Opportunities to See: Project heritage quality of the place by enhancing view of historic axis and unhindered visibility of the monuments.

Good cities are about people. A key objective is to ensure protection, comfort and enjoyment.

Opportunities to Talk and Listen: Noise levels in the Chowk need to be reduced in order to create a place that meets permissible noise-level standards. Measures such as traffic calming would result in reduced traffic flows thereby resulting in an overall reduction in noise-levels.

The public space offers very few oppor-

Provision of new parking on the existing underground parking. Redeveloping the existing parking to have more space for vehicles. No. of vehicles before – 113 cars No. of vehicles now – 350 CARS

PROPOSED DESIGN OF COMMERCIAL COMPLEX FOR AWAS VIKAS

Elevation treatment should be done to give bhootnath a better building character. Concept of huge windows should be applied on the upper floor. Commercial buildings with building façade should have large window areas to share the building’s interior with the street. Sitting spaces should be provided under the trees. Safety of the pedestrians should be increased.

We have amalgamated the existing activities of the parking roof. It was used by children to play cricket, so a rooftop playing area with adequate seating is provided on the proposal.
