Strauss II Bruch Saint-Saëns Shostakovich
Overture: Die Fledermaus Violin Concerto no. 1 Introduction and rondo capriccioso Symphony no.10
Maxim Vengerov violin/conductor Stamatia Karampini We’re delighted to welcome the amazing Maxim Vengerov back to The Anvil, as both violinist and conductor. After the irresistible overture to Die Fledermaus, Bruch’s most popular violin concerto is one of the wonders of the violin repertoire, with an endless flow of heartfelt melody which is unsurpassed. Saint-Saëns concert piece is perfectly judged and brilliantly written. The Tenth is perhaps Shostakovich’s finest symphony – an epic journey, powerful and dramatic, yet with moments of touching simplicity. £42, £38, £31, £24, £14 (includes £2 booking fee) Over 65s and Platinum Friends standby tickets available on the day

DANNY BAKER
Good Time Charlie's Back!
Following the extraordinary success of the Cradle to Grave tour, I was asked to reconsider my initial statement that I would never undertake such a venture again. The applause of the public can be a seductive narcotic and weaker souls than I would be tempted. After much reflection I have decided that I cannot allow such rampant narcissism to cloud my judgment. I said ‘one farewell tour’ and I meant ‘one farewell tour’. There will be no more. My latest show will be high kicking, fresh, eruptive and often under three hours long. So come and see me perform! It will be almost certainly your last chance... Britten War Requiem City of Southampton Orchestra David Gibson A lifelong pacifist, Benjamin Britten was asked to compose the War Requiem for the consecration of the rebuilt Coventry Cathedral after its destruction in World War II. The work weaves together the Latin Mass text of a traditional requiem with the devastating war poetry of Wilfred Owen to produce a powerful denunciation of the wickedness of war and a warning to future generations of the senselessness of taking up arms against one’s fellow man. 2018 marks the centenary of the end of World War I and this timeless message of peace gives us all the opportunity to acknowledge all those who made the ultimate sacrifice. £27, £23, £15 Under 16s and f/t students £7 (includes £2 booking fee)
