The Haymarket Dermot McLaughlin Productions with The Mercury Theatre Colchester and Wolverhampton Grand Theatre present
by Henry James, adapted by Tim Luscombe starring Janet Dibley (Doctors, EastEnders) and Maggie McCarthy (Call the Midwife) “I don’t save or shield them. It’s as bad as I feared – they’re lost” 1840. A young governess agrees to look after two orphaned children in Bly, a seemingly idyllic country house. But shortly after her arrival, she realises that they are not alone. There are others – the ghosts of Bly’s troubled past. The Governess will risk everything to keep the children safe. Years later, confronted by the past, she is compelled to account for what actually happened to her and the innocents under her protection. This new adaptation of Henry James’ chilling tale, which was the original inspiration for Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black, is a masterclass in stage-craft, with captivating performances, deliciously atmospheric set and lighting design, and an evocative soundtrack. £29, 2pm £27.50 Under 25s and f/t students £15.50 (includes £3 booking fee) Suitable for: ages 14 and over

PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA
Beethoven Symphony no. 6 Pastoral Berlioz Symphonie fantastique Herbert Blomstedt The impulse behind the Pastoral symphony was Beethoven’s own love of the Austrian countryside. The five movements encompass a peasants’ celebration, a summer thunderstorm, and a final hymn of thanksgiving. Berlioz’ stunning Symphonie fantastique embodies the visions of a lovesick musician in the grip of an overdose of opium. The idea of his beloved returns in various guises through the work, ending in a nightmarish witches’ sabbath. A profoundly imaginative score, it made the composer’s reputation all over Europe. £41, £37, £30, £23, £15 Under 25s and f/t students £11 (includes £3 booking fee) Over 65s and Platinum Friends standby tickets available on the day

The Haymarket European Arts Company presents
Following a sell-out West End run, European Arts Company brings this brilliant dramatisation of the libel and criminal trials of Oscar Wilde, written by his grandson Merlin Holland. Thursday 14 February 1895 was the triumphant opening night of The Importance of Being Earnest and the zenith of Wilde's career. Less than 100 days later, he found himself a common prisoner sentenced to two years hard labour. So what happened during the trials and what did Wilde say? Was he persecuted or the author of his own downfall? By using the actual words spoken in court, we can feel what it was like to be in the company of a flawed genius – as this less than ideal husband is suddenly reduced to a man of no importance. £23, 2pm £21 Under 25s and f/t students £12 (includes £3 booking fee)
