MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF FIM AFRICA

I

t is indeed a great pleasure to write this welcoming address for the first time in my role as President of FIM AFRICA. To stage a Continental Championship event take a huge effort, which is normally undertaken by a small team of dedicated enthusiasts and I am sure that the same is true of this event. In that respect I extend my sincere thanks to KMSF and those who have given their time and effort to make this event possible. If past events are any measure, then I am sure that6once again Kenya will host an event worthy of Continental Championship status. Even though the number of visiting riders is not as hoped for, due mainly to budget restrictions, to those who have made the effort to travel to Kenya, we thank you for your commitment, which I am sure will be rewarded with an enjoyable event. On that note, on behalf of FIM AFRICA I wish you all the very best for a safe, enjoyable and competitive event. RAY WILSON President – FIM AFRICA

Finally this message would not be complete without a message to the sponsors. Stage being set for 2015 FIM AFRICA Cross Country of African Nations

O

nce again, having held two previous successful events, Kenya has been awarded the hosting of the 2015 Cross Country of African Nations by FIM AFRICA. This event will be held on June 19th and 20th 2015. The venue is Kisima Farm, Timau and the route covers the foothills of the iconic Mount Kenya. This event is a one of the most prestigious in the African Continent and riders are expected from countries such as South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, as well as our neighbors from Uganda

and Tanzania. The Organisers are well into preparations for this event, and the course is being designed by one of our top Enduro competitors, Shaun Miller, who along with Kenya team mates Anthony Nielsen, Ross Field and Alan De Boer , were successful in winning their class in the event held last year in Zambia. Shaun has designed a route of approximately 40 km which will be run in laps or around 5 hours riding. The route is mixed and quite challenging, containing extreme river sections,

technical river sections, rocky sections, forest sections and steep hill sections. There will be about three spectator points, the main one being the start/finish area where competitors will have to complete a series of ten obstacles adding to the excitement. The Kenya squad for the event, both bikes and quads, containing such riders as Shivam Vinayak, Ian Duncan, Tutu Maina, Ben Spinks, Shazar Anwar to name but a few, is being prepared by Team Captain, Ross Field. Countries may enter 5 riders per class as a Team, and

other riders as individuals. The top two riders in each class will score points for their Team, and the Team with the most points is declared the winner. Friday 19th June will start with scrutineering and documentation, followed by a sighting lap for all competitors. Saturday 20th June sees the Race proper start at 09:00 and expected to finish around 14:00 hours. Prize giving will be held in the evening at the venue. An exciting addition to this year’s competition is the Dakar prize. This event is being added as one of the criteria towards awarding a rider from Africa an entry into the world famous Dakar Rally. There are a few Kenyan riders who will be challenging for that prize. So preparations are racing ahead in what promises to be a very exciting event for Kenya. We look forward to welcoming everybody in June, up in Timau. Chairman EAMSC: Chris Wahome Kenya Team Captain: Ross Field
