organiCity
In rapidly changing climate flexibility is the key. A mobile, independent lifestyle, that is not tied to fixed patterns and predetermined locations becomes increasingly important. organiCity is an urban society of selfsustainable interrelated nodes that can quickly adopt to the extreme climatic conditions. This project focused on three extreme environments: dry desert, cold antarctica and volcanic activity. The skin, relationship to other nodes and the shape of the node changes while the life inside each node is constant. Every node is a self-sustaining creature that serves a small communitiy of people.

In desert the nodes become distant with spikes. Imitating desert vegetation, the self-sustaining node digs down into the soil for fresh supply of water, its spikes collect rare rain water and store it carefully. The environment inside of the nodes is unchanged.
18
19
In the harsh environment of antarctica the nodes form clusters. They support each other with the necessities. The life inside each node is unchanged.
20
21
In an environment close to volcanic activity it is important to make up a rigid system. The organization of the nodes is similar to a structural truss. It helps the nodes rise over the volcano. The life inside each node is unchanged.

Social Museum
This project explored the opportunity to expand the normal operating hours of museums to support the local community of Lower Manhattan. Studio asked to closely follow a process used in architectural office REX. The process starts with defining a clear issue, following with a concise position that leads into an architectural manifestation. The given program required that the museum is open for a limited amount of time, while the proposed project expands the use of the museum subsequently expanding the hours of the building in use. Carefully considered spaces are converted to accommodate different types of uses or combined with other rooms to create a new type. These spaces are publically social instructor: spaces. The fusion of non-gallery spaces allows for new type of activities Joshua Prince-Ramus to accommodate wide range of second uses. Jacob Reidel team partner: Eun Jun

Group rooms combined with art garden could serve child care function, since child care needs space for indoor and outdoor activities. Group rooms can also be transformed into fitness classrooms and night school classrooms.

Event space combined with an art garden can serve as a movie night feature to further extend the use of the building.

agrA-pa-tu
The studio worked on reconstrucion of an a-pa-tu complex (apartment block) in Anyang, Korea. The project proposes a new model for redeveloping high-density residential block with a mixture of programs that reflects changing social trends of a new developed nation. The larger goal of the project is to provide a vision to fast developing nations for a more responsible model of growth.

Population over 60 40
At the start of the economic boom in 1963 the majority of South Koreans were farmer. Sixty-five percent of the population lived in rural areas. In the next 25 years Korea grew from predominantly rural agricultural nation into a newly industrialized country. The agricultural force shrunk to less than ten percent in 2002. Farm owners are getting older, while younger population is moving into the cities. What used to be farmland becomes new a-pa-tu construction site. Typical reconstruction projects create taller denser highrises. However, at the end of 2009 more than 123,000 units were unoccupied. There’s no need to build higher and desnser.

The project proposes to introduce agriculture into the new constrution. There is a new growing trend in Korea of young people going back to the farmland, creating internet interprises and selling the goods online while living on the farm.

Smokebrella
Quality of life in urban areas is affected by health such as smoking in public spaces. The Smokebrella responds to this hazard by sensing unhealthy air quality conditions caused by smoking and displacing the toxins of the smoke to an elevated point up and away from the level of the smoker. It offers an identifiable point of interaction between smoker instructors: and non-smoker. The Smokebrella begins to create a dialogue between David Bejamin and Soo-In Yang these two seemingly disparate parties that may bring about a greater understanding through a shared experience. team partners: Eric Tan Wanlika Kaewkamchand tools: Andrew Yalcin Processing, Arduino techniques: Physical prototyping

Spirograph 3D
This project explored Spirograph, a simple toy with circular wheels and a pen. First, Spirograph 2D was carefully examined to understand the basic mathematical and physical manipulations. Then based on the finding Spirograph 3D was established based on an ellipse. Every aspect of the final object could be manipulated: the size of it, the size / shape of the cross-section, the bigger wheel and the smaller wheel of the spirograph.
